Notre Dame HS - Another Day of Sun - La La Land - Class Project

- One day film teacher Bonnie Milecki used some clips from the (then) newly released movie “La La Land” to teach her film production classes some important lessons about pre-production and art direction. Later that day, student Nick Pratico was so excited about the opening scene from the film that he exclaimed, “Man, I really wish we could have shot that scene! It looks like SOOOOO much fun to be a part of that. We could totally do that in our parking lot!” After a little thought Mrs. Milecki responded, “Well, let’s give it a try!” Three months later this little tribute was finished! Thanks so much to “La La Land” writer/director, Damien Chazelle for inspiring so many students to take risks, try something hard, and for bringing a little sun to Notre Dame High School!

THANKS TO ALL OUR PARTICIPATING NOTRE DAME STUDENTS!
Special Thanks to: Mary Liz Ivins, Barry Breen, Joanna Barlow, Joan Pilkington, the entire Notre Dame Administration, and all the faculty and staff that supported the project!
I'm pretty impressed with the camera operator tbh
I very much agree. I thought the camera work here was just as good as La La Land's director's rough cuts in practice - which is a complement. My only complaint is that it would've been nice to have the students actually do the music (I'm sure they have very talented choirs and jazz ensembles) - but otherwise, getting this much coordination is pretty remarkable in a High School production.
Emily Raye Jesus loves you guys, let me know if you have any questions about God
Raymond Wiggins I don't think you can compare that to the original camera work maby it looks good from the first glance but there are some faults which could have been easily avoided
I am more amused in their team work. They wouldn't have done this without team work, and I was in awe. Definitely a thumbs up!
Same with me
This is the perfect example of why we still have to support Arts education in our schools. Super talented kids and stars of the future! Congrats!
Why France isn't like this ?? 😕
Most schools in the US aren't like this sadly.
BooksPajamasTea I know but in France we have teachers who don't like their job... So most of pupils don't want to study... That's a huge problem 😢😢
Art is a powerful tool for dissent. This is just beautiful.
The pupils don't want to study because the teachers don't like their jobs? I'm sorry but it's just demagogic and false.
Thankful for an administration that greenlights my wacky ideas and colleagues and students that make them a reality!
Bonnie Milecki Who ever did that camera work needs to go into the industry now!
Where is this school? As someone who lives and plays in tech and art, and who used to teach, saying "Yes!" and "Why not?" and "Why not me/you/us?" is how anything happens. Kudos!
Kudos to you and everyone involved - an epic win!
You have amazing students! I was a teacher for 22 years and I know how First-rate students can make us teachers look so great. We give them the instructions, the inspiration, and wow, do they execute it! I miss teaching awesome students. I hope you know how fortunate you are to teach students like this.
This is absolutely amazing! Congrats on your awesome ideas and amazing students!
This would have never happened at my high school
I hear you. My high school in the 80's might have gotten the theatre crowd and maybe Pom Poms and cheerleaders, but this looked like a school wide project- very impressive.
janaynayification1 my school has close to no funding for the arts programs so this could never happen at mine either
In France, you'll neve see something like that too... No school and no teacher would get involved in a project like that one.
Sorry if I made a mistake, I'm French
janaynayification1 Jesus loves you guys, let me know if you have any questions about God
Private, Catholic High School with GOD and the UNITED STATES as the focus! Notre Dame = OUR LADY! Notice how EVERYONE gets along!!!
huge shoutout to that guy in green at 2:00 who does those killer flips and lifts!!! great job to everyone in this video!! it looks amazing!!!
Yeah that dude was epic.
Catalina Currier Jesus loves you guys, let me know if you have any questions about God
Absolutely. A career in film and choreography ahead.
My eye is twitching, why was this so perfect? Direction and editing were top notch. And choreography. Jesus Christ. Inspiring stuff guys. Great job!
Robert Jesus loves you guys, let me know if you have any questions about God
Yes, extraordinary video and great comment except having to use Christ’s name in vain. That’s so 1999. Love watching students have fun at school as opposed to dreading it. Every school should have a finale video like this made instead of graduation day that no one remembers.
@@matthewarmbruster6514 does he?
It’s amazing, but it would be even cooler if they had their own singers
@@jongpark Jesus Christ can eat my asshole.
first time in 12 years my kid LOVED going to school ! see kids... you will find your niche eventually.
THANK YOU SO MUCH MRS. MILECKI for all your time, energy and true devotion to the students.
Jennifer Kirlin Jesus loves you guys, let me know if you have any questions about God
no one has any questions about God just leave everyone alone okay??????
I am stunned at what a well-executed effort of collaboration, cooperation and talent. I loved the choreography, the direction and the enthusiasm. Your teachers, parents and fellow students must be proud. Thank you, this put me in a cheery mood.

I adore LA LA LAND and I think this school project is amazing. Highlights:
1. The girl in purple at the opening is gorgeous and a star-in-the-making.
2. The four-girl pin wheel - so cute!
3. The orange guy and yellow girl’s pas de deux.
4. The blue, green and orange trio - so much fun.
5. The red and blue twisting arms girls.
6. The “I hear them every day” guy - wow, he’s so slick!
7. The fluoro acrobat!!!
8. The adorable, slightly shy girl with the hoola hoop.
9. The return of purple dress from the opening!
10. The overwhelming joy of the final 30 seconds!!!!!!
Bravo to all of you, you gave me goosebumps.
wow, this is amazing!
Aw hey, I love your channel... Wasn’t expecting you here! 😂
These kids are going places! The camera work was quite impressive, there's lots of talent here. Greetings from Venezuela guys! Keep the good work.
choreography, camera was so fantastic! liked the funny touches like the hot dog, trumpet, fishing guys. Thank you!
That guy at 1:43 is EXCELLENT IN ACTING!!!
mianna lov noooooo

Well, he died in 2017 :"(
@@naufalulikbar omg noo :(
Everyone here is and was
1:42-1:56 in my opinion this guy impersonates the best
That's Nick Pratico. Unfortunately I just did some research and he passed away in 2017, which was ruled a suicide. 18 years old with so much future and promise. So sad.
@@wowmartiean yes, I found his news on instagram last night. But something's fishy about his died.
@@wowmartiean yes I know him
But why did he do that?... Dang that sucks man
shout out to the guy making hotdogs at 1:52
With all of the terrible and hateful things going on in the world, a video like this of the younger generation coming together, dancing, loving, being happy, and creating something amazing makes me so happy. Great job to everyone involved, this was incredible.
These are all beautiful but, this one is special. It shows a future of people that love what they are doing.
This shows just how inspirational La La Land was.
RIP Nick Pratico
From a 1976 Grad, I'm proud of you guys. Well done!!
Kids. Remember this moment in time. This is truly special. The fun, creativity & community you have created as a group is magical. WOW!
I'm just a guy who passing by(I'm Korean. and no use English normally, so sorry for bad english.) but I feel happy exactly last scene(when you guys start jumping with red. yellow, green shirts) I feell jelous of you with it. Thanks for enjoy this.
Saddened to learn that the guy behind this, and featured in it, is sadly no longer with us. 🥲 rip young man
rip nick, you will be forever missed
Is it bad that my heart skipped more than one beat when the guy from the second verse came on screen??? Anyone?😍😍😍
this was honestly great. i wish i could do something like this w my school or another one of my groups or something but i cant picture too many people being willing to
rae Ikr, same :(
Awesome job!!! Congrats from this 1986 Alumni. The best part, my 16 year old daughter found this and was genuinely impressed with my Alma Mater - and it's hard to impress a 16 year old.
Awww so inspiring .. I've been in love with La La Land ever since it came out and when I saw this, I just knew that I HAD TO watch this!!!!!!!!! Such great school and administration for making this possible .. Kudos to all of you!!! ≥3≤
The inception of this idea described in the description had me laughing like a maniac. I don't know why - it definitely was a positive laughing though. I know the feeling of such moments but have yet to find the people to follow them through (on my way though). These indie-type "shorts" always make me so enthusiastic that my next project'll be close to this good.
Edit: 2:50 seeing this many people made me crack open again. I just love people and what they can do when pulling together and pooling experience, excitement, and commitment.
You guys literally turned High School into High School Musical!
this is totally gonna go viral
HAha no
ukelleyle Jesus loves you guys, let me know if you have any questions about God
Matthew Armbruster what are your reasons to belief?
O. M. G. I'm laugh/crying watching this. This must have been unbelievably fun for you guys to do. I was wondering at the start how in the world you were going to pull it off without breaking windshields and denting hoods. Kudos to the original choreography throughout and all the little Easter Eggs (e.g. Guys fishing, guys grilling, the girl playing the trumpet, etc.) I will have to watch a few more times to see how many I can find.
This is the most adorable thing ever.
Saw the Movie 35 times in the theater.. Always made me smile..so does this performance!
This was a terrific performance by everyone in it. Wow, I hope some are thinking of majoring in theater arts or film. Don't pass it by because you'll remember this production and regret not doing it.
I stumbled upon this by chance... This is amazing! I love how you put into practice the "hidden cuts" Chazelle uses in the actual film! Overall well directed and choreographed. Congrats from Italy and keep up the good work!
This is amazing. I wish we could do something similar at our school!
but like why am i living for this?
This put the biggest smile on my face
wish my high school were like this. grr
really enjoyed this. love the movie and it's great to know la la land has inspired so many others. I think you guys captured the essence of the film... here's to the ones who dream!
Its really fun to look at all the background people, my faves are definitely the fishermen ❤️❤️❤️
This high school looks lit. 🔥
Gabriela B We are lit
Great work and most importantly the enthusiasm of the whole school to make this happened. Congratulations to the teacher, staff, students involved and of course to the Directors who allowed this idea to come to life!
Absolutely incredible

Love it! Crazy uplifting here in Jan 2021. Thanks,
I cried. This was beautiful
another day of sun when the sun has not come out in about 5 weeks,
ProPrinters I noticed the cloudy day throughout the video while they all were singing Another Day of Sun. It would have been perfect if the sun came out that spec day of production!
Wow this made my night- utterly fantastic- see your work in the movies I'm sure
That was rad!!! The energy, dancing and filming were all amazing! Thanks for making me smile!!
Nobody has ever been that happy on the 710 in Compton.
Ever.
Wow! I am so wildly impressed. You guys just killed it. So much talent, and it looked like you had a blast doing it. HS Is special, and it goes by so fast, and you will have this as a tresaured memory for the rest of your lives. Great work!
Pure young joy ! Thx nad Congratulation
WOW, this is incredible, congratulations to everyone 👏👏👏it was excelent
I love the color mix from the shirt. Its a wrap!
Okay, this was amazing before hand, but when Nick appeared at 1:42 , I was like "this went from a 10/10 to a 20/10."
But he is really hot, you can't deny it
He died in 2017

This is fantastic. Makes me actually glad to be a human being.
You are wonderful! Very talented and best of all, you obviously have a blast and enjoy yourselvs doing this project. Art in school is so important.
Awesome job everyone!
All those beautiful young people! Can’t help it, it put tears in my eyes (age 79).
I hope life goes well for them.❤️
I find it ironic, the song is called Another Day of Sun but they are doing this on a cloudy day. I still like this and it's impressive.
Great job everyone!!!
I've never ever done cool stuff like that in school! Good job, guys, must have been much fun!
FABULOUS!
Pure art 💙
I'm a professional musician and back in the 1980s was hired to play in the pit orchestra for several of NDHS's musicals. I can tell you that even back then the quality of the performing arts department (led by Richard Loatman) was incredible. I remember a newspaper critic who wrote about their performance of Annie said that the audience was stunned by what they saw and in another review compared another show to Broadway.
My school could never, this is awesome
wow wow wow....just amazing, love it...smiling from cheek to cheek... all the way from Ireland.
This is an amazing example of teaching the right way.
Great work guys! Genuinely impressed!
