  • DESCRIPTION: Picture a mallard circling the sky in Northern Alberta, preparing to land into a potentially lethal tailings pond. Suddenly, you hear a loud horn and the bird flies away, unharmed. Now, picture using horns, lasers, and other traditional methods of wildlife deterrence combined with the latest and most sophisticated cameras, sensors, and artificial intelligence to take this work into the future and rather than react to wildlife, start predicting its behavior and preventing harm to them. The implications that this can have for wildlife in a variety of settings is fascinating and we want to share this story with you.
For our next SGS Live, viewers can learn about our collaboration with the EDGE COMPANY, an Italian deep-tech firm, and the work we are doing combining AI, sensor technology and more to protect wildlife in Canada and beyond. We will also explore the application of these systems, technology and sensors in other settings and industries.
Speakers: Shel Graupe, Technical Manager for Wildlife Services, OGC Field Services West, SGS. Shel Graupe is a technical manager for Wildlife Services and Innovation at SGS Canada. He has been with SGS for more than five years and brings a wealth of knowledge about wildlife protection to the company, following stints with Ducks Unlimited Canada and the Government of Saskatchewan.
