My hubby made me a cool room trailer. He did it all solar. Its the best in summer. Make sure its easy to remove the panels etc so you can still use the trailer for bunnings runs.
We have a second trailer, one that's got the IBC on it, so we can easily remove that when the IBC is empty and we aren't carting water, but also I'm loving that the steel frame if we insulate under that we can always still stack stuff on top of the trailer too! It's very exciting :D
@OurSmallFootprint yes it's exciting. I go to Melbourne for 3 days with the family for food shopping. Shop for 3 months' worth of food. Works out to be cheaper in the long run. I'm only spending 160 a week then. Do go to the market after 6 weeks for more fresh veggies and fruit. I'm looking forward to spring to plant my veggie garden 😊

I so look forward to having a little corner set up again to make things, I like that sewing is one of those things that is fairly quick satisfaction, I can whip up a skirt or a little pair of shorts in an hour and it feels like an accomplishment hehe.

We aren't really set up to be able to host someone else, even if they had their own accomodation, there's much more to it than that. I think that is a bit of a mystery. However, tell us all to not to forget to give you a thumbs up. It can't hurt. I loved the rayburn I grew up with. Cooking with it brings out the best flavour in food. There was a warming oven that we used for our PJ's in winter. They are great for slow cooking. We used to cook piklets on the top. Ours also heated the water and the house so when it was replaced we sure did miss it the next winter. Wish Apollo a very happy birthday.
This one has a water jacket, but I don't know if it is in good enough nick to use yet, but I'm trying to track down some spare parts! It has a cupboard down the bottom too that it sits on that could be used for warming too I reckon! :D

Perhaps acknowledging your achievements and celebrating them will help with the "failures " or lessons as I prefer to call them. You have a lot to deal with, so try not to be too hard on yourself. Good morning! Firstly, glad to see your burn is healing ❤️ Secondly, your everhot is brilliant! Does it have a water jacket on it, as well? Purchasing the second one is a very smart move, it's a redundancy for parts and what you need. Flue should be easy to source, i was swimming in flue when i put a shout out... i needed about 14 ft of it, and had 3 times that amount in the end 🥴 no waste though, it went to other people doing similar with wood burners. Definitely the fabric stash being turned into clothing, pot/bowl covers, a small side hustle is a win. Off grid from scratch on a barely there budget and a pascal of littles is a slow process, and a great learning curve. It also strips away the superfluous deitrus we are conditioned to assume is 'necessary'. When the mumma guilts hit, i ran a checklist in my head... Kids well fed nutritionaly dense fresh food that i knew the provenance of. They went to bed each night clean, in a clean bed, after a day of expanding their little worlds and meeting their needs- food, shelter, security, belonging and hearts. The rest, the forever to do list, the sacrifice list, the 'normal living' list... went back in my mental file cabinet with a hearty shove. The failures, the successes, the challenges and the wins, all of them made me who i am... and i learnt i'm actually patient 😂, resilient, courageous and tenacious. Confidence boosting- especially as i move into the last third of this life- i'm planning on 90 as a good age to hang my hat 😉- i know my strengths and weaknesses and learnt to be flexible and adapt. You've so got this, homesteading.... it's not a genre, it's a lifetime ❤️
Finally able to leave the burn uncovered mostly! One has a bit of a spot I might cover up today because I keep knocking it, but the other one is looking good! It has pipe outlet holes, but no pipes, so I'm going to have to take the covers off and check it out, there's a bit of rust in the firebox on what I think is the water jacket part, so I'm not sure if it will be usable, but again, if I can hunt down another one! I wouldn't even be adverse to running two of them tbh lol. I definitely believe that a lot of my lists are wishlists rather than actual feasible ones, and I know that seasonally availability of time changes too, we're in such short days atm, that everything feels rushed and once we hit summer I'll be wishing for shorter days again lol. I definitely enjoy achieving and sometimes even the failing is worthwhile in the scope of learning and skill sharing etc!
We had a stove similar to yours when I was growing up in Tasmania. It was fantastic it heated the house, cooked our food and also heated the hot water. I hope you get as much use from yours. I also thought a t-shirt with your squirrel and a slogan “ squirrel on”.
I don't just watch for the grocery hauls, I like watching you in the kitchen cooking etc. Your life is interesting and I'm sure you do heaps we don't see too. Wood stove is beautiful, can't visit to see what is cooked on it 😊
Hehe, I forget to film a lot of things, its easy with the camera on a tripod in the kitchen to flick it on, but if I wander off to do something else, meh hehe :D. I do need to get better at documenting things not only for here, but for my benefit too.

I think its very variable when people watch, but the little chart says that between 7-9am my time is when the people who view my videos are most active, but who knows! lol. It's all too easy to get hung up on the statistics tbh!
I put a bunch of branches and sticks and garden stuff in and the old soil, but it only got to about half way, so wood chips and straw was suggested and they're nice and easy to get, so I'll do some of that before we get to the 'good stuff' :D
The mug is perfect!!! I think you've accomplished lots! Like so many of us you're doing it with little money bit by bit. That's how we have to do it as well. It really is nice seeing a homestead come together like you're doing it and not the ones with what seems like unlimited resources! I love the wood stove! That trailer will be so handy!!
Slowly but surely, we'll get there, it is hard at some points, we finally feel like we get a bit ahead money wise but there's so many big projects that its so easy to just spend it all lol.

There is a video that goes a little more in depth about why we went off grid! But a lot of it was accident. We were going to build a little holiday spot and then life took a turn, there was health and money and business issues and in the end we moved to the property preemptively and just 'made it work' lol. CZcams is a great source of researching skills hehe, I read a lot, I watch a lot and I experiment a lot!

I have to admit that I have loads (and I mean LOADS) of fabric and six sewing machines as I do a lot of quilting and dressmaking. It’s a dying skill so hang onto it. Xxx
I LOVE being able to make the kids clothes, but it does take up space, not only the fabric I hoard, but the space required to sew too hehe, but I really want to get back to it, I love knitting and stuff too, but its just too time consuming for me at this point in time, at least sewing is somewhat quick!

I think you sometimes need to remember that your moving off grid wasn’t exactly planned, so you’ve had to make the best of what’s available and that really is what you all do. We see it in your pictures and videos, your children are healthy despite their issues, and much happier than so many sad kids living in cities, who get rushed from pillar to post for their “recreation” and hardly see parents who work stupid hours to pay for it all…you’ve been there, so you know where you’d rather be, I’m sure. Just need to hang in when it seems overwhelming, because we all know that nothing stays the same forever. Have you watched Frugal Queen in France? She has a wood stove like yours. I’d love one…hope you get yours up and running, I can only imagine all the creations you’d come up with if you had more cooking space available!

My roosters are all crowing, one of the young Indian Game roosters voice isn’t quite broken so he sounds like he is being choked! I can totally sympathise with you re roof leaks, my bedroom sealing started leaking and a quarter of it collapsed during a really heavy rainstorm a week ago. Now that it’s down we can see that the gutter was overflowing and leaking back over the flashing and into my ceiling. Just waiting for some dry days to start the repair. Love your wood stove, I had one like it. Great for baking especially roasts. 😊
If you don’t have time to get one or two of the raised beds ready, just bung your brassica seedlings into the ground anyway - you may have success, you may not, however, leaving them in pots, unless you put them in big buckets, you most likely won’t get any product. Worth a try anyway. Even half of them in the ground. Good luck.

It is definitely not for everyone :D. But that's ok, its good that we all have a choice and different tastes etc! I think we make what we have work well and I don't feel like I'm lacking, yes a few mod cons would be lovely, getting the pantry built will be a big one! but in general! :D. I do try and slow down lol, but I think my brain just takes off! :D
Don’t worry about when you upload your videos. What I do each morning is do a search on all the channels I follow and download the videos I want to watch later when I have time. I can do this because I have a CZcams subscription, essential in our house for my autistic grandson, Isaac. Even if you don’t have a subscription it easy to do a search of your channel to get the latest video. Some of the other channels I watch have daily uploads, some once a week, some twice a week and some every few weeks. Just do what you can. Happy Birthday Apollo. Karen

My hubby made me a cool room trailer. He did it all solar. Its the best in summer. Make sure its easy to remove the panels etc so you can still use the trailer for bunnings runs.
We have a second trailer, one that's got the IBC on it, so we can easily remove that when the IBC is empty and we aren't carting water, but also I'm loving that the steel frame if we insulate under that we can always still stack stuff on top of the trailer too! It's very exciting :D
@OurSmallFootprint yes it's exciting. I go to Melbourne for 3 days with the family for food shopping. Shop for 3 months' worth of food. Works out to be cheaper in the long run. I'm only spending 160 a week then. Do go to the market after 6 weeks for more fresh veggies and fruit. I'm looking forward to spring to plant my veggie garden 😊

We aren't really set up to be able to host someone else, even if they had their own accomodation, there's much more to it than that. Any squirrel is a good squirrel. Always informative. You are marvelous doing all that you do and with six children, and a hubby! All in good time. You are prioritizing what you need to and timely achieving them. I would say, most who follow you are ok with you getting uploads out when you can. As far a YT goes. I think that is a bit of a mystery. However, tell us all to not to forget to give you a thumbs up. It can't hurt. I feel your frustration and hope that in the coming veggy season the garden goes well. My seedlings are growing but I am concerned with frosts here too. I have a leak in the bathroom ceiling - drives me nuts. At least it's the bathroom. Cold as we are, we haven't got down that low at night. Brrr. The mornings are the hardest for me to get going. I loved the rayburn I grew up with. Cooking with it brings out the best flavour in food. There was a warming oven that we used for our PJ's in winter. They are great for slow cooking. We used to cook piklets on the top. Ours also heated the water and the house so when it was replaced we sure did miss it the next winter. Wish Apollo a very happy birthday.
This one has a water jacket, but I don't know if it is in good enough nick to use yet, but I'm trying to track down some spare parts!
It has a cupboard down the bottom too that it sits on that could be used for warming too I reckon! :D

Firstly, glad to see your burn is healing ❤️
Secondly, your everhot is brilliant! Does it have a water jacket on it, as well? Purchasing the second one is a very smart move, it's a redundancy for parts and what you need. Flue should be easy to source, i was swimming in flue when i put a shout out... i needed about 14 ft of it, and had 3 times that amount in the end 🥴 no waste though, it went to other people doing similar with wood burners.
Definitely the fabric stash being turned into clothing, pot/bowl covers, a small side hustle is a win.
Off grid from scratch on a barely there budget and a pascal of littles is a slow process, and a great learning curve. It also strips away the superfluous deitrus we are conditioned to assume is 'necessary'.
When the mumma guilts hit, i ran a checklist in my head...
Kids well fed nutritionaly dense fresh food that i knew the provenance of.
They went to bed each night clean, in a clean bed, after a day of expanding their little worlds and meeting their needs- food, shelter, security, belonging and hearts.
The rest, the forever to do list, the sacrifice list, the 'normal living' list... went back in my mental file cabinet with a hearty shove.
The failures, the successes, the challenges and the wins, all of them made me who i am... and i learnt i'm actually patient 😂, resilient, courageous and tenacious. Confidence boosting- especially as i move into the last third of this life- i'm planning on 90 as a good age to hang my hat 😉- i know my strengths and weaknesses and learnt to be flexible and adapt.
You've so got this, homesteading.... it's not a genre, it's a lifetime ❤️
Finally able to leave the burn uncovered mostly! One has a bit of a spot I might cover up today because I keep knocking it, but the other one is looking good!
It has pipe outlet holes, but no pipes, so I'm going to have to take the covers off and check it out, there's a bit of rust in the firebox on what I think is the water jacket part, so I'm not sure if it will be usable, but again, if I can hunt down another one!
I wouldn't even be adverse to running two of them tbh lol.
I definitely believe that a lot of my lists are wishlists rather than actual feasible ones, and I know that seasonally availability of time changes too, we're in such short days atm, that everything feels rushed and once we hit summer I'll be wishing for shorter days again lol.
I definitely enjoy achieving and sometimes even the failing is worthwhile in the scope of learning and skill sharing etc!
We had a stove similar to yours when I was growing up in Tasmania. It was fantastic it heated the house, cooked our food and also heated the hot water. I hope you get as much use from yours. I also thought a t-shirt with your squirrel and a slogan “ squirrel on”.

We put gravel in the bottom of our big garden beds, then garden trimmings, branches etc, then the top soil.
I put a bunch of branches and sticks and garden stuff in and the old soil, but it only got to about half way, so wood chips and straw was suggested and they're nice and easy to get, so I'll do some of that before we get to the 'good stuff' :D
The mug is perfect!!! I think you've accomplished lots! Like so many of us you're doing it with little money bit by bit. That's how we have to do it as well. It really is nice seeing a homestead come together like you're doing it and not the ones with what seems like unlimited resources! I love the wood stove! That trailer will be so handy!!
Slowly but surely, we'll get there, it is hard at some points, we finally feel like we get a bit ahead money wise but there's so many big projects that its so easy to just spend it all lol.

There is a video that goes a little more in depth about why we went off grid! But a lot of it was accident. We were going to build a little holiday spot and then life took a turn, there was health and money and business issues and in the end we moved to the property preemptively and just 'made it work' lol. CZcams is a great source of researching skills hehe, I read a lot, I watch a lot and I experiment a lot!

Hope Apollo had a great birthday - I’m sure he will have, especially if he managed to track down that archery set - and enjoyed his cake! I think you sometimes need to remember that your moving off grid wasn’t exactly planned, so you’ve had to make the best of what’s available and that really is what you all do. We see it in your pictures and videos, your children are healthy despite their issues, and much happier than so many sad kids living in cities, who get rushed from pillar to post for their “recreation” and hardly see parents who work stupid hours to pay for it all…you’ve been there, so you know where you’d rather be, I’m sure. Just need to hang in when it seems overwhelming, because we all know that nothing stays the same forever. Have you watched Frugal Queen in France? She has a wood stove like yours. I’d love one…hope you get yours up and running, I can only imagine all the creations you’d come up with if you had more cooking space available!

My roosters are all crowing, one of the young Indian Game roosters voice isn’t quite broken so he sounds like he is being choked! I can totally sympathise with you re roof leaks, my bedroom sealing started leaking and a quarter of it collapsed during a really heavy rainstorm a week ago. Now that it’s down we can see that the gutter was overflowing and leaking back over the flashing and into my ceiling. Just waiting for some dry days to start the repair. Love your wood stove, I had one like it. Great for baking especially roasts. 😊
Roofing is hard too, to see where the flaw is, we keep on patching bits and then waiting for the next rain to see if we 'got it' lol....
If you don’t have time to get one or two of the raised beds ready, just bung your brassica seedlings into the ground anyway - you may have success, you may not, however, leaving them in pots, unless you put them in big buckets, you most likely won’t get any product. Worth a try anyway. Even half of them in the ground. Good luck.

At first starting to watch your videos, Iveas upset over your living conditions, and just didn’t understand them. But now, I have learned abit more of your situation, I really enjoy your videoes. I am still amazed over the way you live, but I appreciate it more.I look forward to your videos when they arrive. You have the ability to really spit your words out fast and QUICKLY! It is definitely not for everyone :D. But that's ok, its good that we all have a choice and different tastes etc! I think we make what we have work well and I don't feel like I'm lacking, yes a few mod cons would be lovely, getting the pantry built will be a big one! but in general! :D. I do try and slow down lol, but I think my brain just takes off! :D

Don’t worry about when you upload your videos. What I do each morning is do a search on all the channels I follow and download the videos I want to watch later when I have time. I can do this because I have a CZcams subscription, essential in our house for my autistic grandson, Isaac. Even if you don’t have a subscription it easy to do a search of your channel to get the latest video. Some of the other channels I watch have daily uploads, some once a week, some twice a week and some every few weeks. Just do what you can. Happy Birthday Apollo. Karen
I do similar, I don't have a sub, but I add a bunch to my 'watch later' queue throughout the day when I'm on here answering questions/comments etc hehe :D

We quite often do a bonfire for Apollo's birthday because it falls near the solstice! but we didn't have a burn pile set up this year, and it rained lol.

I definitely cook more than I shop hehe, but the shopping videos seem to hit the search algorithms well and a lot of people see those videos that don't always get a chance to see the rest :D

I haven’t seen anyone on CZcams who has your challenges (barbecue for oven,no hot water in kitchen ,etc).It’s impressive how you’ve figured out how to make from scratch food using what you have.
