You confirmed why I do not want to photograph a wedding...ever. lol My anxiety was running on overdrive just watching this.
Haha it can be stressful!
Love it! Annie Leibovitz said that photography is 90% moving furniture and I always found that to be 💯 true! I don’t think new photographers understand part of their job is moving things all the time to be sure the shot is clear and lit well. You did amazing and your teaching style/content is incredibly helpful, I feel spoiled having all this access.
Such a good point! Thanks for watching!
This is quite frankly the most educational and detailed behind the scenes wedding shoot I've seen. As an up and coming pro photographer this definitely gives me a pronounce perspective on what to expect as one day I will complete the challenge if thee as well. Phenomenal Photography 👏🏾👏🏾😊🤩💙
If you liked this you would love KJ All Access!!
20:35 when he goes “have them face their shadows. Light and location course tip!” Wink 🙌🏻
Oh Ty knows all the courses!!
Amazing job on the first look! I got nervous just watching!
You and me both!
Using a strobe or flash as the main light and the sun as a secondary light has greatly improved my photography. When shooting without a strobe or flash during daylight, I can position the sun more effectively as a secondary light, helping me understand how to use reflected light as fill light. Another helpful tip is to use a studio monitor, like a SmallHD, using False Colors to analyze the lighting and contrast in ad campaigns or the work of your favorite photographers. I guarantee this will be overwhelming at first but the experience you’ll gain will be a level you didn’t think possible.
I love how you direct everyone!! I need to work on being more clear with my directions haha
You can do it!
me too
as a wedding photog it's so nice to see you kind of scamper to find the perfect spot for the dress, I feel like that's me setting up all my shots on wedding days under a time crunch and it makes me feel unorganised and chaotic and this is a good reminder that this is normal and just part of the job!
"hands in the pockets, we're fancy". haha love it!
haha yes!
I won a giveaway to the KJ all access for a year and I learned SO much!!! To be totally honest, it kept me from quitting photography altogether. I was really (without even realizing it) struggling and feeling like every interaction and every pose and every everything had to be perfect always. Watching Katelyn made me realize that there never is a perfect situation with no challenges and that even with huge challenges you can come up with a kick butt product for your clients. Thanks for helping me overcome my seriously toxic perfectionism and keep trying to improve my craft!!!!
That is so encouraging! Glad you enjoyed it!
How lucky! I hope I can win access one day! I'm a big fan of these youtube videos!

I've already seen this wedding on All-Access and I'm still watching it! lol! All of your brides are gorgeous but she really is just stunning! We have a castle venue in Kentucky too so it's nice to watch how you capture the wedding in your style and leave out the elements that are more medieval.
Glad you are enjoying it!
Yay this is so helpful! It’s amazing to see the down and dirty of how to do great shots.
Glad it was helpful!

Watching you gave me some knowledge to tuck in my pocket. Thank you so much.

So good to help train the eye to look for minimal spaces even when it’s a wild location
So true! Thanks for watching!
So helpful!
Glad you think so!
This is great! You are such a pro at what you do and how you are able to explain your decision making process. Learning so much already from this BTS video. Thank you so much for letting me into your secrets.
Thanks for watching!
I just can’t unsee that doorknob @3:58 😂
Haha!!
This was awesome!! Future more engagement and family shoots too??? Katelyn I have learned so much from you☺️ 🤗 Thank you for empowering me as a photographer 🥺❤️❤️
You are so welcome!
Great informative video. I’ve recently watched 7 of your videos, with your friendly personality I feel like you’re speaking to me in that I know you.
Awesome! Thank you!
Hi, I am a beginner. Love photography as hobby. So much to learn... thank you for so much information. I really love it!
Glad it was helpful!
Be proactive, that's it! When I did my first wedding coverage, it was so dissappointing on my end as I dont know if I should do this and that as we dont have a coordinator. Thanks Katelyn for the very intensive BTS. I enjoyed watching every minute of it.
Thanks for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
Yes, this is great!!!! Only thing I love shooting OCF vs shooting airy with no flash just the camera only
Thanks for watching!
I'm doing my first wedding next week, and this has helped me SO much! Thanks Katelyn!
Glad it is helpful!!
You have a great team.
Thanks for watching!
Just amazing.....
Thanks so much!!
Your contents are superb...
Waiting for my camera to start my experience
I shot in very harsh sun 4 weeks ago. It's definitely tricky and you need to be able to take the lead and know what you're doing. Great job.
Thanks for watching!
this was such a great video to watch. i've had several situations where the couple really wants that "epic" shot in the middle of the day...like i'm talking 1pm. this really helped.
Glad it was helpful!
I like putting people under a large diffusion material but you usually need someone to old it
This was great, I just second shot a wedding and learned a lot on how to support the lead shooter and this gave me ideas to give to them. (my lead shooter is a friend so it there was great communication both ways)
I learn a lot watching you, but I really love when you say stuff like “crow-sage”. That’s so me, I’m talking and my mind is going in 1,539 other directions. I literally laughed out loud and said, Oh Kate!
Love that!
That was awesome! I am a kj ask access member so I’ll be watching the rest later!
Thanks for watching!
your last Photo your best i love more😍
So interesting to see how you go for the classic shots, rather than the quirky shots that show the funkiness of the space. As a photojournalist, I do just the opposite. But, that's why the bride chose you and not someone who would want to capture all the spears and spikes. :)
It is cool to see all the different styles.
Posing is really hard and you made it look easy.
Thanks!!
I'll give credit where credit is due, the shooting in harsh light for the first sight is incredibly hard to pull off. I've tried this before in weddings and gosh it is hard and requires quite a bit of skill to pull off. Thanks for sharing your technique KJ!
Thanks for watching Megan!
I really credit and admire your courage for your ability considering you Just had a baby.
Thanks for watching!
I love the behind the scenes! Is this going to be a regular addition/extension of KJ All Access?
No just a little something special
wao amazing wedding beautiful
Thanks!
Your videos are always very engaging and hugely informative. You sure do pay it forward by sharing your knowledge. My burning question though is, what focussing option did you use for the "first look"? (around 26:30) Thanks Katelyn!
One shot!
Thank you for sharing. Have you ever had to rush the bridal party while getting ready so you would have time for some group shots? I was asked to photograph a friend's wedding and the bride that wanted a first look but they took so long getting ready they ran out of time. I am not a professional photographer but the shots I did get were really good. The couple loved them. I wasn't sure if it was my job to make sure they ran on time? They had a wedding coordinator. Maybe this was the time to be proactive? I am learning so much from you
I can be pretty proactive, but sometimes you can't really speed up hair and makeup. Or if the bridesmaids are late. We try to make it work, but it can be a challenge for sure!
I absolutely loved it Can you please send me the full wedding please! I have my first wedding in August and I want to do An AMAZING JOB ! An I would love to see the whole day !!
I'm with you, I hate venues with cluttered backgrounds. I love a bright minimalist shot but unfortunately in the UK we have a very small minded approach to building, narrow roads, small houses, small venues. This location would be a dream to shoot at! I'm so jealous! 😅
Thanks for watching!
I'm subscribed now.
Welcome!
Latelyn such a nice person you are))
Thanks for watching!
Very informative and great! May I ask how to make everyone in a group photo in focus while using high aperture such as F2.2 and fast shutter speed. That's just so amazing!
I hope she responds to this! But I am guessing it has to do with lining everyone up evenly and also using great equipment :)
Yes making sure everyone is in a straight line!
Thanks so much Katelyn for this video, I learned so much from it. What kind of video cameras are you guys using here? Thanks again :)
Thats a ty question
Great video!! So random LOL but did your team go around and ask guests to move cars? (I thought there were cars parked all back there upon arrival)
There were cars there for the getting ready time... the venue asks them to move later in the day
this was awesome! Super random question but what is clipped to the back of your dress? Visible around the 4:10 mark
That’s the wireless transmitter for my microphone we use for filming behind the scenes!
Watching this video made it very official that i am not ever in my whole life am going to shoot weddings. Did i say never because i mean NEVER!
hahaha!!! Thanks for sharing!! It can get pretty stressful!
Y’all are less than a month postpartum here! I was halfway through my first pregnancy when you posted this 🥰 she’s 14m now as I’m watching this! I still BF her so this is hilarious 🥰😂
Thanks for watching!!
I wished you would have shown the group photos results taken from your chair and the settings you used. Why did you did not used a flash and it was indoor? your iso must have been extremely high and there was 2 rows in some of them with high aperture? I was wondering what it would have looked with the bench at the front and how did you cropped it in post? (I have been told to never shoot with windows facing you)…. Many thanks in advance.
This was an awesome video! Where can I find your camera bag?
They don't make it any more!! this is the closest to it: kellymoorebag.com/collections/camera-bags/products/the-libby-2?variant=32449334026#gear-notes
Can I ask how you were able to shoot the bridal party with F2.5 and still get all of their faces in focus? Wouldn't you need to go to F8 at least for that?
Hi Katelyn, I didn't catch the camera settings in the church for the family formals. Do you recall what they were?. Thanks, Deirdre
I will need to look back!
Katelyn, I’m curious as to why you change lenses as opposed to wearing two camera bodies with a different lens on each - is there a reason you choose to shoot this way that’s beneficial?
Syncing the settings between two cameras takes more time for me. It is fast to just change lenses.
Hi Katelyn! I noticed that you didn’t use OCF during family formals in the church. Was it because there was enough light in the church?
Yes, there was enough natural light!
With the bright sunshine first look situation, did you consider using off-camera flash to control the light on the subject? Seems like that would be easier and less stressful than natural light for this case
No because I am still worrying about the shadows of off camera flash, It doesn't look natural and it doesn't match my style! Thanks for watching!
Katelyn do you have videos in your KJ Access on what to do in a reception situation if it is night/no natural light? This is my biggest struggle, because I dont like the look of flash either!
40:52 is gorgeous!
Thanks for watching!
