    I walked in a dealer to purchase a x700 series and left with a 1025R, the extra cost was well worth it over the x700 considering the pros you get with it..also a lot more appealing.

    I HAVE BOTH......the X700 series is a BETTER LAWN MOWER hands down. If you need a good lawn mower that can also tackle some tractor duties then X7 is the way to go. Cuts grass beautiful and is powerful as hell. If you need a TRACTOR that can mow grass as a secondary duty and dont care about fancy cut quality then the 1025R wins hands down. X700 will ride like a Cadillac.....1 series will beat you to death with a loader and properly inflated tires for utility duty. 1 Series has a bulldog low range.....no low range in X7 series. If you want to plow gardens, use a loader the 1 series will spank the X7 in every way. The X7 will spank the 1 series in mowing quality, mowing maneuverability, mowing comfort. The X7 WILL NOT handle 3 point implements anywhere near as well as the 1 series. Box blades, bush hogs, graders, ect.......1 series spanks the X7.
    Basically.....the 1 series will do everything better than the X700 series accept MOWING and THE RIDE. If you need a awesome mower and just need to pull trailers around and maybe plow small gardens then one of the 4x4 X700 series will work fine. The X700s are a Cadillac.....the 1 series is a truck. The 1 series is a utility tractor that can be used as a lawn mower. The X7 is a lawn mower that can act like a tractor for light duty chores. Which is better depends on what your needs are. But I know several guys who bought the 1 series to be their main lawn mower and grew tired of it pretty quickly and traded for a X758. On the other hand there are several who thought a loader or " johnny bucket" would work great on their X7 and ended up having to trade in for a 1 series. Just know your needs before you buy. Of course you can be like me and just have both lol. When I need a tractor i get the 1 series out. When I need to mow the lawn I crank up the X720

      JohnnyRebKy why not just buy a nice zero turn for mowing, and a sub compact for everything else and as a backup mower? X700 series seems like a ripoff.

    • @JohnnyRebKy
      @JohnnyRebKy Před 5 lety +12

      @@canammasseymd.2534 Because I live in Kentucky and have a very hilly and hazardous property. I have slopes that a zero turn simply is not safe to operate on....but the 700 series is stable as a billy goat and can mow these places. Plus some people just need a garden tractor rather than a mowing only machine. At the time I needed a mower AND a light duty " tractor" for towing and such. Of course as I said before I now have a 700 series AND a sub compact 1025r. But no matter what the 700 series are far from ripoffs....they are fantastic machines that will last a lifetime for someone who wants a mower that can also tow loads and plow a garden. The only advantage a zero turn has is speed and agility. That isnt always at the top of everyones list of needs. Dont get me wrong...I would LOVE to have one but it simply wouldn't be practical on my mini farm terrain. Secondly my 700 series is PAID FOR and the 1025R is PAID FOR. They will both live longer than I will and I dont need any more bills lol.

      This is a fantastic comment! Thanks for your opinion! We have a 2320 work many attachments and very rough and uneven terrain for mowing grass. We have a campground where we now about 16 acres. We have had a JD Saber 2554 for around the sites ans obstacles and a Scag zero turn for open areas. Also the 2320 work mower which isn't on all that often. I can hardly stay in the seat of the 2320 from the bouncing and then the deck also bounces. It seems far from ideal. The Saber has been repaired many times are we are researching the x495 as an upgrade. I would love to get another diesel for mowing.

Just for mowing and pulling a trailer around.(I think i'm going to see if I can trade for a diesel before I get ten hours on it. I really like the mowing ability of the X739. Almost as good as a zero turn. I also have 2038R with almost all the ops. No cab yet. Backhoe, Loader, Quick connect hydr for the bucket, front snow blower, pallet forks, rock forks, post hole digger, 60" lawn roller and a 60" drive over quick connect mower deck, weight box and PTO driven tiller.

    The X700 series tractors are worth the money if you have alot of grass to mow Especially if you buy a used one..I picked up a X710 with 299 hours for $6500.00 out the door yesterday. I bought a new Husqvarna 54 inch garden tractor a few years ago with a Kawasaki 24hp and Hydrogear 730 transmission. I thought it was great until a bought a used Deere GT 245 (about like a deere 5 series today) with a bad carb..Replaced the carburetor and that's when the madness began. I have over 5 acres to mow and could not mow with the Husky anymore after getting the GT245. After mowing with the X710 I felt like I should go back to the dealer and give them some more money and just give them my Husqvarna and tell them to donate it to charity. The X710 will literally mow backwards under load faster than the Husqvarna going forward with the blades off even though the Husky has the Hydrogear 730 which is not even close to the Tuff Torque K71 in the GT245 much less the K92 in the X710. Just walk right past those mowers in front of lowes and home depot if you have acres to mow..Get a minimum 5 series John Deere or equivalent..A used one is better than any new mower that retails for $4000 or less...

      Does the iMatch not fit most American made standard measurement implements??? I thought the problem was hitching up to the foreign made implements that are " metric" and don't line up with the standardized iMatch. I had a cheap harbor freight quick hitch and it wouldn't match up with my John Deere 413 Bush Hog I assumed because the hitch was metric and the JD cutter was standard?? Wont the iMatch work fine as long as you stick to standard measurement implements that are made in USA?? I have a dirt dog box blade too that is made in USA South Carolina and hoped the iMatch would work fine with it and my JD 413 bush hog since they all use standard measurement.
      Whats the bushing kit for??? Is that to make them fit TSC made in china implements like I was just talking about???

    It would be great to see a comparison between the X500 series and X700 series, as a buyer looking at a X700 series may also want to see if an X500 could do the same job for less money. Great comparison above, but this would be two different classes of tractors.

      @JohnnyRebKy Před 5 lety +2

      Ill save you the time.....the 500 doesnt even come close. The 700 is simply a bigger, heavier, wider, stronger built machine. The 500 is just a lawn mower with a fairly strong transmission. The 700 is a borderline sub compact tractor. Everything about it is more robust. If your just going to mow the 500 will get it done cheaper. If you need to mow, pull a plow, use a blade, and use light duty 3 point implements the 500 wont cut it period.

    • @mnvikes24
      @mnvikes24 Před 5 lety

      @@JohnnyRebKy Thanks and that is what I have thought. I believe the X500's just have a belt vs. a transaxle, which is where the issue of pulling, etc. comes in.

    • @JohnnyRebKy
      @JohnnyRebKy Před 5 lety +4

      @@mnvikes24 Yes the 500 series use a belt drive transaxle but they are still very robust. The 700 series are shaft drive, even the deck is shaft driven. The belt driven 500s are still a very powerful unit and will pull anything around you can load into a yard cart. They are capable of pushing snow and using one of those very small plows. Problem is they don't have the weight and size to be very effective at it. But again they will pull anything around you can fit into a 2 wheel cart. A 700 being much bigger and shaft drive is capable of moving around a tandem utility trailer if need, your bass boat, ect. The transaxle in them puts down a lot more torque and the larger size-framed machine is safer to pull larger trailers and loads with. But if you just need to pull a 2 wheel cart full of firewood and mow grass the 500 series is excellent! If you have a need or desire to have and use 3 point hitch implements then totally forget the 500....you will be sadly disappointed. The 4x4 X700s can handle a light box blade, pull a garden plow, use a small disk, and many other things. The 4x4 model 700s make good little bulldozers with the front mounted blade too lol. I bought a front blade for mine to use as a bulldozer and plow down brush and saplings around my property. Works really well!!! But I have a 1025R for that stuff now.

      @@JohnnyRebKy Great info. I didn't realize the X7's mower was shaft drive as well...that is interesting as I mow some thick ditches. I am actually looking at a X729 and like the idea of 4wd for those same ditches. The ability to pull my boat around the yard instead of having to hook up my truck would be great to and much easier. I also need to haul sand and wonder if that would be too much for an X5. I have a 318 now, with a front blade, but I have a small leak on my transaxle and not sure if it is worth try to rebuild.

    I upgraded to a Kubota BX2360 from Good Works last summer (same size at the JD 1025R) from a John Deere LT160 garden tractor. Going to a sub compact tractor was worth every penny, we use our tractor for literally everything. In my opinion, the extra cost of a 1 series vs. an X series is worth every penny, you’ll be amazed at what you can do with a loader, CAT1 3 point hitch and rear PTO. Good Works Tractors is fantastic, I highly recommend them!

    Awesome video! Thanks for sharing! I had an x729, awesome tractor! Moved up to 1025R, and now a 2017 2032R. My X729 mowed the grass the fastest, but the tires dig up the grass around the trees. I had bought a 45 loader for it, realize not supposed to with it being all wheel steer, but had zero stability issues on all grades. It dug very well. The 1025R I liked the drive over deck, and ease of loader connect. At least one of the hydraulic lines was a bear to hook/unhook for the loader. Single point hydraulics feature is awesome! Had my dealer put that on at purchase of my 2032R You can't beat John deere!

    The X700 is overkill for mowing, but I like that personally. You really shouldn’t be mowing with a 1. Or any compact tractor for that matter. If it has a front end loader it shouldn’t have a mower regardless if the loader comes off or not.

    If you need a mower.... Get a Zero turn. Then you won't have to worry about connecting and disconnecting the mower deck.

    I've had both a1023e and now a x758 the 1 series is great for flat ground but sucks on steep hills those r4 tires will slide my 758 will mow up and down the steepest hills and never have to touch the brake, I have a 3pt hitch and rear PTO with a 54 deck and it's more expensive than the 1 series unless you buy the loader, you can't get the loader for mine they changed the frame so a 45 won't fit, it was competing to much with the one series ,have to buy an after market loader, the one series is dangerous on a hill to top heavy, the 758 will make a u-turn on a hill with no sweat, no roll bar, don't need one, the one series is made for farm use on flat ground , with the loader on x758 I can do a whole lot of work on my 2 acres of extremely hilly ground, if you switched the r4's out for turf tires you would be better off they get better traction on snow too.

  • @toobglued
    @toobglued Před 5 lety +2

    Its a neat little tractor. This is an example of paying more for less. Supply and demand. The 700 series can easily be over 12,000. Last weekend I noticed a 700 series at the dealer that was over $13,000.
    A buyer of an equipped 700 would REALLY REALLY need a smaller frame to justify that kind of money. For a physically small tractor when compared to the 1 series at those prices.
    Id be VERY surprised if this upper 700 tier is a justifiable model for john deere to keep producing. With a lofty price tag it seems like one would not be as motivated to buy it over a 1 series. Further more, Id assume the majority are going to finance anyway, that sad, Add another 12 months to a term and keep the same payment, but have a 1 series instead. give or take.

      When you strip the loader off the 1 series and park them side by side they are remarkably close in size. The 1 series is just heavier built. The 700 is a superior mowing machine that rides much much better. Its a great mower that can do light duty tractor things. The 1 series is a tractor that can do lawn mowing duties and beats you to death. Refer to my main comment up above. I own both a 700 series and a 1 series together and lay out the strengths and weakness of both machines.

    I wish I could afford one... but I don’t know if I ever can But on the bright side I have a gt235. I built a snowplow for it and a makeshift 3 point hitch

    • @JohnnyRebKy
      @JohnnyRebKy Před 5 lety +1

      My dad bought a new GT235 with the 18hp Briggs Vangaurd and 54 deck in 1999. 20 years later it still looks new and is going strong!! Its mowed a 5 acre yard, done all the yard sweeping, hauling tree limbs, for 20 years and its hard telling how many THOUSANDS of hours it has on it. The K72 tuff torque transaxle in them is made to last for sure. Im not a Briggs fan but the Vanguard twin cylinder that came in the GT235 has been a real champion. You made a great choice with the GT235....its a proven machine.

    • @GoodWorksTractors
      @GoodWorksTractors  Před 6 lety

      Charles Kettering I don't have a x758, but am in process of making a x738 vs 1025r. Just imagine it's a x758. :)

    • @charleskettering2626
      @charleskettering2626 Před 6 lety

      Actually the price difference lead me to choose the 1025R, on the X700 diesels, the three point hitch was optional on the X700's thus narrowing the price gap considerably.

    • @GoodWorksTractors
      @GoodWorksTractors  Před 6 lety

      Yep, it leads a lot of folks in that direction. Try breaking out the fuel cost difference as well. It'll shrink the gap even further.

    • @franksanna217
      @franksanna217 Před 5 lety

      So I just priced out an x758 with a 60” deck Vs a 1025r with a 60” deck. The 1025r was an astonishing $100 CHEAPER!! Easy decision here, especially when I’d have to pay extra for the 3 point hitch!

  • @grabb3864
    @grabb3864 Před 6 lety +1

    There is really no comparison between these 2. The 1025r is a workhorse a serious one. For my smaller tractor I got the x500 and it will do everything the x700s will do. Go with the 1025r very little price difference for what you are getting. And get the h120 loader.

  • @ErikAsquith
    @ErikAsquith Před 6 lety +2

    Does that base price include a mower deck on the X744? I know that does not include a deck on the 1 series.

    • @GoodWorksTractors
      @GoodWorksTractors  Před 6 lety

      Hi Erik,
      That's a good question. This should be the base price of the tractor by itself.
      FWIW, I just did a cross reference on Mutton for the current x754. It is listed at $12,599 with a 48" deck. That is a pretty cheap price too.

      @GoodWorksTractors  Před 5 lety +2

      99 out of 100 people state otherwise. I'd check them out in person before making a costly mistake. Perhaps you only plan to mow and snow plow. Even then, extremely little cost difference for less capability. Bad financial decision IMO.

    I can’t believe that there is only 400lbs difference between these tractors. I wonder if they are talking about the weight without the bucket attachments? I dunno just boggles my brain because the larger tractor looks so much heavier than the smaller one.

    The problem i find with John Deer is that they are just to big . I wished the X700 series was smaller it's just to big and bulky .
    John Deer seems to have forgotten we are doing yard work not farm work or construction work .
    I have a old 1970's model WheelHorse and boy do i wish i could buy a new one just like it . The one thing the X700 has going for it is 4 wheel steer and all wheel drive thats it because it is just to big and bulky .
