Together with a brilliant auto mechanic friend I produced a series of DVDs on classic car engine rebuilds, so I salute you for the amount of time and professionalism it took to shoot and edit this. Bravo. It was a pleasure to watch. Just one minor criticism: this is a British machine filmed in Britain - it's a silencer, not a muffler 🧐.

My 38" 16hp Countax must be over 25 years old and still going strong, being used every week. The powered collector is, in my opinion, a much better option for the UK over the mulching deck, as we get massive grass growth and tons of leaves and debris all over our lawns due the the amount of trees we have.
I always coat exposed aluminum in motor oil to stop it corroding, I know it attracts muck but after a few uses it isn't noticeable and it really protects the aluminium.
I am still on the original belts apart from the serpentine deck belt and the powered collector !! (just wait for the comments on that one)
Nice Video, brilliant production - you must have the patience of a saint!

    • @andrewstafford-jones4291
      @andrewstafford-jones4291 Před 4 měsíci +1

Ha Ha same tractor for me as well and almost identical age!
Burnt out a few serpentine belts cutting 2 foot high grass when we have been away for months and have just replaced the starter solonoid.
I have re-painted the underside of the deck twice and I also use spray on underseal.
This wears off after a few years but I am cutting 1.9 acres most weeks.
My 16HP is a single cylinder B&S but it seems most are twins.

That was both very nicely done and a joy to watch this refurbishing project. The only problem I see is you now have to build a bigger powder coating oven so you can bake an entire lawn mower chassis. I love to powder coat but so many times my typical kitchen converted oven won't allow me to powder coat large items. Thumbs Up for sure...

PA LAWN GUY> Great video. Painting the cutting blades improves the aerodynamics of the blade and hence the grass flow. It also reduces the power needed to turn them. At least until they build up with adhered grass. that is why it is best to clean and paint the blades when they are sharpened and balanced. the best to you in your work.

I just about crapped myself when you put the key in it and started it up and drove it off the off the delivery pallet, and it says can it be saved. Well hell yes. As far as the working parts go wasn't too bad when you get one that runs like that you're going to have to replace some stuff but that's the way it goes. The problem with these highly produced mowers, lies within the Developers bearings that can't be greased all the older equipment seemed to always be built different better oh, we live in a throwaway world. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the video and you do really nice work I've seen a few of your videos and I like what I see. But for a guy that takes and pays so much attention to detail especially like on this one one thing you didn't do I wonder if you can guess? That's right the steering wheel is crooked. You will never not in a million years make me believe that with the wheel straight your cross bars are at 7 and 2 or two and seven however you want to look at it please fix that. LMAO. Anyway you stay safe stay well and as always God bless.

28:54 Never heard of Countax in America before (first time I’ve even heard the name).
We have dozens of different brands of lawnmowers/snow blowers/lawn tractors. Most of the brands are owned and built by MTD (who I call the British Leyland of American yard equipment), my Yard Machine was built by MTD

Well done, love the b-roll footage of the geese. Yeah I don't know that I've ever seen a Countax here in the US, but if it runs on a Honda engine, we probably have it under a different name. Great video, love watching renovations..

Excellent work! Just wondering why your vids haven't been recommended to me before in the last 5yrs. i have
been watching this sort of stuff, nice to see a fellow Brit doing this for a change, liked the occasional nature
shot, squadrons of Geese, needless to say, i have of course, SUBSCRIBED!

The amount of rust on the deck is likely due to cutting the grass when it is wet. Wet grass dulls the blades faster and more-so causes the grass to stick to the deck which causes it to rust. I never cut the grass in the morning or on rainy days. It's nest to cut it prior to rain, on rainy days. Not sure what the UK is like though...probably damp a lot of the time.

I have a newer countax with a different deck but basically the same spindles as this. I did this overhaul back in the Autumn due to noise in the bearings - wish I'd seen this video earlier ! This looks like a HGM (High Grass Mulch) deck. On the XRD deck I have it is welded still as opposed to pressed, so this deck seems to have been ravaged by rust.
