      Thanks Travis. I have not seen a head to head with a gas outboard and electric trolling motor. However, gas will have a longer run time with an extra tank at a much lower cost than trying to carry multiple batteries.

    Great vid and once again proves the max hull speed theory. You doubled the amount of thrust but didnt double the speed.
    (This isnt directed at you, i know you understand the concept of max hull speed)
    I see so many people going big motor or playing with props trying to get more speed out of a yak. When the reality is its not the motor or the prop thats limiting the speed on a kayak.

    • @Aksmaniyak
      @Aksmaniyak Před rokem +1

      Thanks. I agree with the max kayak speed theory with standard trolling motors. The 1MPH increase in this test doesn't really count much. I have seen the newer Torqueedos and NVs reach 6MPH on this kayak but those are different motors.

      @drewgregoryhookedonwildwat6991 Před rokem +1

      @@Aksmaniyak That was a cool project! @nitewolffishing I've also see the effects of more thrust not really equating to more MPH (or just slightly) and this certainly proves it. At some point, because kayaks don't get on plane, it just maxes out because you're just plowing. Again, great video!

      @MrSteve280 Před rokem

      Just trying to understand. I read about the fundamental theory behind the max hull speed theory. But it doesn't make sense that a 10hp Torqeedo would not propel a kayak significantly faster than a 55lb trolling motor, demonstrating that max hull speed is just as dependent on the power as it is design. As the saying goes, given enough momentum, pigs indeed WILL fly.

    • @MrSteve280
      @MrSteve280 Před rokem

      Bear with me - just trying to make sense of this all. I've read about the max hull theory but it contains a few assumptions which appear to make the theory very condition. It only makes sense that a more power would overcome hull design and that a 10hp Torqeedo would push the same kayak faster than a 30lb thrust trolling motor. And, least of all, the max hull theory appears to be dependent on a kayak being paddled, not powered. That implies just as much a direct dependency on how fast a human can possibly paddle, not only the design of the hull. Add more power, and the hull theory seems to go out the window. As the saying goes, given enough thrust, a pig WILL indeed fly.

    the props need to be more behind the kayak, not along the side. you would notice a dramtic speed and thrust increase. like big boats that have 5outboards, youd never see a motor hanging off the side of the boat.

      @Aksmaniyak Před 11 měsíci +1

      This was just a fun project to see if it was possible. I made a quick double mount with 2x4's. The props would hit each other if mounted off the stern of a kayak. A big boat has more stern to work with and it is also more of a practical power plant. Take this video for what it was meant to be.

    To make a dual motor set up useful another component is required. A joystick controller allows for seamless 360º rotation and speed control with the added benefit of the safety of a second motor. If one motor fails the paddle is used as the rudder.
