Yesterday this NISI 9mm 2.8 lens came to me, I compared it to my Tamron 11-20 and it seems to be sharper in the center of the frame and resistant to flares. Super lens for astro photography.
Who needs autofocus on a lens this wide? There’s incredibly few shooting circumstances where the subject is so close to the lens that any travel in the focus during tracking. And if it’s stills for real estate then you’re already on a tripod and should take the time for manual focus anyway. Unless you’re doing stop motion LEGO animation or taking very rushed macro shots of bugs and mushrooms so often…no
for simple lens design, vignette on ultra wide is just a physical property, for a 9mm on apsc, we are looking at almost 110-120 degree AOV, and at the corner, light has to travel 1.6-1.8x the distance, with 1/r*r rule, we are looking at 3 times light fall off ... so it is really hard to avoid.
The Nisi 9 mm is interesting for mft format. There it is an equivalent 18 mm wide angle that only use the inner zones of the lens. Like 12 mm lenses the 9 mm lens performs less aggressivly with mft. For mft users this 9 mm is a must have!
Aps-c is making kind of a comeback. I know it's not been gone but maybe standing a bit still. I have the a6600 which i love but I love low light stuff so I have considered going to full frame many times. I don't really care about video. Anyway. Thanks for always good videos
One thing the Laowa still has going for it over the Sony 11mm is that the Laowa is tiny. It barely takes up any space. I don't think either the Nisi nor the Sony is quite on the same level of compactness.
Why? So you can just skip over parts he spent time, money and effort making? You’re watching his videos for free, at least have the courtesy of sitting through the entire 8 minutes.
I really appreciate that you test these lenses with the A6000 which is the currently camera i have, it does help a lot. Great review as usual Arthur! Cheers man!
I had the Laowa 9mm f/2.8 EF-M lens on my Canon M50 and the results were very good. However, I just ordered the Canon R50 for shooting real estate and now looking for the best aps-c wide angle. The Laowa 9mm f/2.8 is available for the Canon RF mount, same for Nisi. Which one is the best for shooting real estate videos and photos? I'm leaning towards the Nisi but concerned with its focus breathing for video and with hdr bracketed photos. Some have mentioned these issues. I've also heard good things about the Laowa 9mm T/2.9 Cine lens but that appears to have more vignetting than than Laowa 9mm f/2.8 RF lens. Any advice and/or tips is appreciated?
@@flyingpig3674 The Nisi RF 2.8 9mm lens is by far the best wide angle I've had, and coupled with the Canon R50, it's a powerhouse for real estate! The low light capability is off the charts. Just yesterday, I photographed a garage with zero natural or artificial light and it was incredibly bright, like I brought in flashes. Only it came out a million times better doing 3 exposure HDR bracketing. And the sun flare effect is fantastic, really gives the photos a very nice touch.
I was so excited when I say the video but when I checked out the lens I saw it's aps-c and not L-mount, too bad. If they made one for FF and L-mount I'd be interested!
Just a shame you sold the Laowa 9mm F2.8 before this lens came onto the scene, a side by side comparison would have been brilliant but I certainly welcome your informative view anyway. At the moment the widest non-fisheye lens available for aps-c users is still the Sigma 8-16mm (introduced in 2010) although not available in e-mount fitting. A lens I still have and use but is somewhat front-heavy with an adapter and a6600. I'm certainly interested in the Nisi lens but supplies have yet to reach the UK; expected mid to late November. Price seem to be around the same as the Laowa at £450-ish? Keep up the great work with your videos. :)
The widest lens is the the APS-C Laowa 7.5mm T2.9 Zero-D S35 Cine. I read somewhere that you can use the MFT Laowa 7.5mm with a FotodioX Lens Adapter to Emount as well.
Sorry, have you happened by any chance to use the Sony 11 f1.8 with a full spectrum camera? I’d like to buy it but I would not like to come across hotspots. Thanks
It's nice to see your wife on your sample shots, but it would be even nicer to see you in those shots. Please consider showing your face on the photos more often ;)
If you have a small budget, get a Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 with a cheap AF adapter for E-Mount. It's a great lens. Check out sample photos on flickr.

Are the sunstars an issue with astro photography?
Probably not, they add effect to the stars.
Sony 11mm is better longterm investment, auto focus , more portable and will have a better resell rate and won’t depreciate in value.
Definitely the most versatile option!
Yes, but it's got horrible fisheye like distorsion...

Would make even more of a comeback if Sony would release some updated bodies.
@@webdaddy agree but since they made a new sensor for the fx i think (hope) they will release updated bodies
Wow, a great lens from Nisi. We have so many choices compared to 3 or 5 years ago.

W-what.. this image I like more than that of sony 11 in your comparison! Thanks for helping me choose.
We want yo see the comparison of that nisi, sony and laowa side by side !❤
Excellent comparison. Thank you very much

which one have you got? Is Nisi's sunstar effect too strong in real estate photos?

That lens looks premium.
As someone who has Rokinon RK12M-E 12mm F2.0 on a A7iii right now. Do you recommend to get a the Sony or the Nisi?

There’s also the Fujifilm 8-16mm 2.8 for their x-mount cameras 📷
still happy with the 10-18 f4 :)
Can't be the OSS, still reigns king there!

Indeed! Ran into him in NYC a few weeks ago!
How would it compared to the 14mm Samyang I wonder....

I may have missed it. Has Arthur done a review of the Samyang 24 f1.8 on APSC? It might be a good 35mm equivalent option on Sony Apsc!
