I've been twice to Versailles and have enjoyed it both times.
No sir the reason why he wants to build Versailles is because he wants to keep his fathers hunting lodge and the memories in it.
If you visit Paris it is well worth the time and effort to visit to the palace. There is a train from Paris with a convenient stop across the river from the Louve. I suggest to start out early. Once the train stops not far from the palace it is a pleasant walk to the front gates. (about a 15 minute walk)

Versailles is the most magical place on earth I went their in April 2014 I went to Versailles twice to see the beautiful gorgeous amazing wonders it was dream come true it was so amazing 😉 is not a even stronger word to use that I can think 💭 think 🤔 if it’s like a world 🌎 if it’s own filled with amazements all around your eyes can’t take it all in I cried with joy through the palace it’s beauty is amazing 😉 it was the happiest time of my life .
The fact that people turned it into a huge latrine back in the day is a bit of a let down. It is stunning regardless and we're so lucky to witness its splendor without its stench. 😉 Thanks for the tour.

It's ironic that it was built by an absolute french king to show his might, and later a german empire was proclaimed in it with the french capital captured and the nation defeated.

And is currently a tourist attraction allowing peasants to roam freely within the grounds, when it was built outside Paris to keep away from the populace.
