I agree with Donna H. and everybody except the 4 thumbs down. Gigi is one of the best if not the best African female vocalists/ performers, I have ever heard. Such a memorizing voice, music, and such great temporary, jazzy, African beat, fusion. Way cool. I so love this. Peace to all from Canada. The Lioness, I will go with that. ABSOLUTELY. Cheers. She is a philosopher, a metaphysician at that. I hope anyone can easily feel it in her choice of melodic structures. Her power is to transport me in a parallel space, a space that I never predict it exists and leaves me in awe when I reach it. A great story teller about her God, her country, her lover and her beautiful childhood (like in her songs Nafekegn and Bale Washintu from her previous record). She also breaks down what seems an abstract idea such as “Utopia” to her Amharic speakers . - All in a spiritual lens! I mean all her songs are must-listen. Adwa (a sound track for an independent film that bears it’s name) speaks existence to me. The way she defines her God blows my freaking mind. Kahn (also on previous record) being my number one, it brings me to my knees and know my creator as a serving leader of my soul. It brings tears of joy everytime I listen to it. As she writes her own songs, I dare to say she is up there with Leonard Cohen-depth wise .. and yet, one of a kind! Her stories are always relatable. She uses easy words, but often with double meanings as the name of the first song,” Semena-Worck” explains it. The end song of this album , Enoralehu tells me that she is actually a rebel and a warrior of freedom at heart. I live her when I cook. I live her when I eat. I live her when I meditate. I live her when I walk. I live her when I speak. I live her when I think. I even live her when picking a life partner( yes, I once proposed to a man for marriage based on his “adulation” to her ..well kindda. His name is even mentioned in the 5th song of this album?!😳 - but he declined the offer. Thank God!😂 Now I think about it, I have zero interest to share my Gigi in an intimate life with a man. I’m afraid, I have a long way to fit in her shoes). In short, I live her.
