- During Summer 2024, Steam Incorporated & Pounamu Tourism Group teamed up for another new heritage train experience in the South Island. Marketed as 'The Mountaineer', the train journey travels from Christchurch to Arthur's Pass over the Midland Line, known as the world famous TranzAlpine Express route. Da 1431, a 1957 built heritage diesel electric locomotive hauled a fleet of vintage wooden carriages on this epic journey into the Southern Alps. The train travels into the Waimakariri & Broken River gorges, which sees the excursion head through various tunnels & across high viaducts before venturing into true mountainous scenery. At Arthur's Pass, the Da is turned for the return trip home where the passengers get to experience the world class scenery once more. this is one particularly great video - such great views on the train itself makes this an engrossing watch
Nice man was able to see the excursions nice to have these even if it's not steam it's good to see this kind of stuff happening again... just got to ask though is why have you stopped with the commentary as I found it a bit better than with just the subtitles but if it's just something then that's alright as you still Produce quality content around New Zealand 👍
Commentary takes up extra time in video making, which I’ve got to do on top of the editing itself and other balances with life and work. Whilst I would’ve liked to continue it, I would rather get videos out at a more reasonable timeframe then never getting done if I don’t have the time to do the process of narrating myself due to other hobbies and worklife in my life - don’t worry the intent to make videos is still there!

Nice video. Shame about the unwanted noise of flat wheels on the return journey. Didn't take long for someone to put flats on her. Air brake handling.
What type of horn does the DA 1431 use? It sounds similar to the Wabco AA-2
