  • Diversity is what makes this world and its people more beautiful. Think for a moment how boring it would be, had there been only one type of culture in this world? Its the diversity, the plurality in culture and traditions that make this world interesting. No culture is exclusive and every culture has its own beauty , everyone love theirs and so do I.
I belong to Gojal Hunza, a district of Gilgit Baltistan. My culture, language and traditions differ from other parts of the region. After leaving my native village for higher education and meeting people of different areas and staying in exotic places did I know how diverse the culture of our country is. I never knew rishta, forced marriages and dowry are among the huge issues girls face in many regions.
Marriage in my culture is very simple. Everything from Nikkah to Rukhasti takes place on the same day. There is no rishta aunty and no families come to see a daughter. Families come for “RISHTA” instead of seeing a girl. My engagment, Nikkah and rukhasti was decided in a month. I was given six days to complete my shopping and I had done all that with happiness ALLHAMDULILAH! 😊No demands of Dowry, no pressure of expensive stuffs, no stress of showing off wealth , no worries of spending thounsands on makeup was all that made my wedding possible within a month😊 Thanks to my traditions and culture 🙏
The ceremony starts with an event called “Bat-Riseed” where traditional food is prepared and organic food is served. It takes three or four days and during these days food is cooked and gents of our families do the cooking. With prayers and well wishes the wedding ceremony starts and the third or sometimes 4th day is the day on which NIKAHH and RUKHSATI takes place.
