Nice work fellow drummer! I play this lick in some of my drum solos on CZcams. Buddy usually played the bass and hi-hat along with the accents on the left hand. The tricky part is getting in and out of this lick while your playing a rapid solo. Anyway, you played it well and gave clear instructions. Good clip here!
That was excellent. Thank you. What I have had problems with for ever is that I never got my left hand equally as fast or even to my right hand. I also just switched over to the Traditional grip because the best drummers in the world all use it. I'd like it if you could show a video on how to get a fast single stroke roll playing with a traditional grip for me. Thank you very much. Joseph
I've listen to Buddy do this lick numerous times. It sounds like he plays a triple with the bass drum as the first note. The hands play 2 and 3 but the right hand plays it as an 8th. It fattens up the triplet. The way you explain leaves out 1 note. Try it. Buddy goes back and fourth from rack tom to floor tom TWICE before finishing pattern. You only go once.
awesome video mate! I've been trying to master this lick myself for years and my biggest problem has been trying to get my right hand fast enough. I need to know what technique you use to bounce your right stick, and what your practice routine was, and how long it took to get it that fast in this video
Question: Why is there a large space between your snare drum and the mounted tom..? If you are demonstrating Buddy Rich's cross over technique watch the setup of his snare and mounted tom....
Weird that he didn’t answer your question because it’s such an obvious thing. I’m guessing maybe he has long arms and needs more space to move around the drums? I think some Drummers just need more traveling. Space I’d like to have big movement. I like to have everything really tight and close together for easy access but that’s just my personal preference. What about you?
Nice break down! Too easy!
Thanks for the nice to-the-point tutorial, happy drumming!

Excellent brake down you're great teacher
For some reason my dumbass thinks that now that I’ve found a tutorial on it, I can suddenly play as fast as buddy rich
It's not that difficult with some effort

Nice video, thanks! Any thoughts about coming out of this lick without sounding awkward?
Try a two beat rest
It's really just a triplet.
