    I'd be careful with tapping metal utensils on the edge of these pots. That's how our Pyrex frying pan developed a vertical crack that was slowly growing and we had to stop using it. It's best to use wooden or silicone utensils. Just have that in mind. They look great, but I wouldn't recommend having them as your main cooking set. With time as you use them they will develop a cloudy layer on the inside (it's really hard to get it off even with the help of a dishwasher) and food will start to stick to the bottom. I had to discard a whole set of those. They are great to serve food in them at a party etc. but I wouldn't buy them again.

    They will not explode. It is the healthiest and best cooking pans you can get. You can turn on the highest heat at once and when it starts cooking, you can lower it to much less than you are used to (maybe half) cause the glass leads heat much better than any other pan I ever tried.

    I *think* this exact glass was used in drinking glasses marketed as "indestructible" and when new, they would literally bounce on concrete, but after lots of use and perhaps a chip at the rim, they would randomly shatter into tiny beads like sand. The glassware which vanishes one-by-one when putting them in a dishwasher, where the granules all get washed down the drain and seem to have evaporated, making you wonder if you really had that many glasses to start with.

I did cause some glass to come off of the 1 L sauce pan when trying to do a caramel icing. It became hard & burned, I scraped with a knife and used steel wool to get it out but messed up the inside corners. I have one from my dad that is heavier than the set I originally have. These are so awesome. I have a set of the cranberry color. Its made of borosilicate glass - virtually indestructible. Don’t buy the China versions. You can cook anything in these and they will not explode. The exploding/cracking pieces happened after the formula was changed in 1998 when they started making the pieces with soda-lime glass. Soda-lime glass doesn’t like sudden temperature changes and doesn’t perform the way Corning and vintage PYREX does. If you come across PYREX glassware, its helpful to know that if the name is in all caps, it’s borosilicate and if it’s lower case pyrex then it’s the cheaper soda-lime. Depending on what you’re using them for, it may not be a big deal but I only ever buy vintage PYREX. i use my Corning Vision pots for everything and have never had an issue. Its true what they say - they just don’t make things like they use to.

I don’t recall the cookware, but I did buy a set of dishes and bowls and cups looks like the same smoke glass color, what sold me is that he took one of the dishes and skipped it across the parking lot like a frisbee it didn’t scrape it it didn’t chip it didn’t do anything I was sold. What a pleasant surprise blast from the past! A friend of mine had a set back in the late 80’s / early 90’s…. Hated the colour of the glass…. Still can’t bring myself to like it….even with all this retro looking stuff coming out.
    I didn’t know they were made in France….. or maybe I did, and just forgot….. but it kinda makes sense; Pyrex is Europe is made by / licensed to ARC International, is is still ,made with Borosilicate Glass per Corning’s original formulation, but the Pyrex being sold in N. America is made of Soda Lime Glass which is much less shock resistant. I think Visions was based on Corning’s lab grade glass for test tubes/beakers, etc…. Which is why it could be used on burners / heating elements.

    • @michaelsherrell6389
      @michaelsherrell6389 Před rokem +1

      Corning's Visions line of cookware is a glass-ceramic formulation, very much similar to it's long time White Corn-Flower Blue pyroceram casserole dishes, except it is just transparent, with the same temperature usage range, lack of thermal shock issues, etc. Many, many people confuse the Visions line of cookware with Pyrex - as if there can never be other forms of glass formulas. Just because Visions is "glass cookware" - just as there are differences between cars - BMW's, racing cars, pickup trucks, and RV's - they are all motor vehicles - and not the same. I hope this helps.

    I found a little Pyrex pot in my late grandma’s basement, it’s from the 70s and made in France, don’t think it was ever used because it looks brand new. Considering myself lucky 🍀

      probably everything your grandma has looks brand new, thats how our elderly treated stuff.
      my grandparents got furniture 50 years old, still looking like new, barely a scratch despite moving a lot in that time. ok the style is old , so old , it could actually become trendy someday again.

      No, Visions doesn't need a diffuser because it's not glass. Those were only for Pyrex Flameware.

    Visions was around in the 70s the glass then was more durable then the new vision...anyway its much healthier than cooking with metal. Please do a video on the propane gas burner. I see it on amazon but how do you use the propane?

    • @JohnTFolden
      @JohnTFolden Před rokem

      Visions was not officially released in the USA until 1983. It's not made out of glass, it's made of transparent Pyroceram. Old or new, it's the same basic material.

    I always thought it was weird that people were afraid of this exploding because I grew up with these heated over direct flame. My parents' pot is over 20 years old with no issue, unlike stainless steel pots that sometimes warped or became discolored. Also, probably the least reactive and safest material to cook with.
