The "box" on the switches are supposed to prevent dust getting into the switch. The reason why it is semi mechanical means it has a piece of a mechanical switch that then activates a rubber dome. So the switch itself has the same input delay/time (I'm not sure) as a membrane but is supposed to feel mechanical emphasis on supposed to as they feel crap in my opinion

I had one for a year before I got a rk61, and it didn’t have any of the issues displayed in this video. It was pretty decent.
