In this video I compare the Traveler's Company notebook with an unknown brand and discuss why the tried and true Traveler's Company (originally Midori) is worth it.
I was checking TN videos and I just saw yours. I have the exact same TN (not the Traveler’s one), and I bought mine at Barnes & Noble for a clearance price of $10 (???). I’m not even sure it’s real leather but I’ve used the notebooks and cannot find the replacements. So I moved on to a real TCN brand olive passport notebook with the inserts and I absolutely LOVE it! ❤. The quality is hands down #1! It will take some getting used to but I will be using daily in 2024. So, we will see! So far, I’m a huge fan of TCN! Thanks for the video! Happy New Year! 🎉
I got my first Traveler's Company cover in 2016. It's camel, and I think I got it shortly after they added camel to their main lineup. The leather has that rougher, shaggy looking interior, but I think all of them were like that then. I don't mind it. I have gotten a few different covers since then (also from Traveler's Company), in different colors. Their inner surfaces are more of a smooth suede...but I keep coming back to the camel one. It has aged so beautifully, and the leather just seems a lot nicer than my newer covers. I will probably let go of the others at some point, because I love this one so much and I don't need more than one.
I condition all leather notebook covers I buy. I find them to be very “thirsty” when they arrive and the conditioner helps to make them less stiff. Kind of like what I did as a kid to my new baseball gloves.
This is a rabbit hole I have fallen down. I just bought leather conditioner for my boots and will maybe expand that care to my notebooks! Thanks for watching.
The cheap notebook you have is, I believe, a Peter Pauper Press product. I agree the paper is not great, but the big problem I had with it is that their inserts are very hard to find in the UK. Otherwise I'd say it's probably much better value than the Travellers Company notebook, which costs about five times as much as the Peter Pauper Press. The Peter Pauper press cover is also better for me because it's vegan and not leather. However if leather covers are your thing I believe Chic Sparrow's product is far better made, and they have a huge following in the planner/writing community.
Faux/fake can be marvelous. Also as far as the edges if the real hide leather. The finishing /burnishing/those edges of leather can appear as nice as the faux. It's really all in one's choice. I'm glad we have them. Cost effective, or ones beliefs, as well as creative purpose for items such as these are endless. I have all kinds, YES I'm obsessed with writing 😊 oh and ☕️ 😅
Hi! I've recently discovered the traveler's company notebook. I keep buying regular notebooks for different purposes: journaling, creative writing ideas, poetry, etc, and when going away I keep hesitating which one to bring with me. So I'm wondering if the travelers notebook could be a good idea, considering that I could have three notebooks at the same time (and that it is beautiful). I'm also planning a really exciting trip to Iceland where I'd like to journal about my trip and also write poems along the way; I was going for a Leuchtturm 1917 - good quality, reliable, nice to look at once that it's finished, but maybe the traveler's company would be a better idea. I'm hesitant about the inserts not having a lot of pages, that it might not lay flat for writing comfortably, and how/where to store them afterwards. So, you as a writer, what do you think of the traveler's notebook for these purposes? So far I've only seen people talking about using it for journaling. Thanks :)
I think the Travelers notebook, or any of a similar style, fits the criteria for traveling and would be the only notebook I bring with me. It perfectly fits the aesthetic of jotting notes and ideas, drawings, and posting stickers. I made a video a while ago about separating the inserts from the actual cover of the notebook and how I don't really know what to do with them after. It despairs me to have to remove inserts when they're finished, as though the magic is gone once removed. Anyway, it doesn't lay completely flat, and I do notice it when writing, but it's not a deal breaker. I store my inserts in a small trunk, and I'll probably have to get a new storage box for new pages I fill up. If you write a lot (I'm constantly writing ideas and poems), the inserts can fill up rather quickly, so maybe have more inserts. I've seen people customize their books to have more inserts than the recommended amount, and I think it looks so cool and archival. Good luck with your journeys! The best option is sometimes through trial and error to see what works for you!
@@Yekie Thanks a lot for your answer :) Indeed I saw that video where you talk about the inserts, that's what makes me hesitate. For instance, for Iceland I'd be using three inserts (already planning about inserts when I still have not bought the journal haha): one for planning, one for travel journaling, one for writing poetry and fiction. But then when the trip is finished, I will take them out... and I will have three separate random notebooks. I'm thinking I can just maybe tie them together somehow.
Great video. Someone literally just gifted me the same unknown journal and I cant figure out what size insert to use. Please help if you figured it out.
I bought rhat fake one you have that comes with the three insert at Barnes and Nobles and the way I found out about Travelers is by searching for insert for that one from B&N. I use a TN passport sized for my wallet and EDC and the fake one as a Commonplace book at home.
Great video, I love comparison videos and love leather too, the smell, warmth and rustic vibe. You seemed in your element in this video and owned it!
I appreciate the kind words. Writing is truly a passion of mine. Thank you!
Awesome vid, been looking for something like this! 💯

Happy New Year 🎉😁🎉. I think I have used the B&N one before the TN!

I just picked one up. I love writing in it with my tactile turn pen.
Welcome to the club 😀

What did end up happening in the end? Did you find success in your travels?
