- I just received a new 2X72 belt grinder from Black Fox Knife Works. Here is a quick overview. If you are in the market for a 2X72 grinder, you should have a look at this one. More options is a good thing.

About Simple Little Life:
This channel has sort of turned (inadvertently) into a knife making channel. But the original idea behind what we wanted it to be is this description below:
Videos on our journey to homesteading. With a recent purchase of a little piece of the Alberta prairie, we're looking to sell our nice suburban home in search of a more meaningful life beyond chasing the "American dream" working for some big company and making someone else rich. It's not about the money, it's about getting the most value from the work I do to improving the life of my family.
Some preparedness, DIY, building quality things with your hands, guns, gear, and outdoor exploration.

I've been following the development of this grinder over the years and love it's functionality
I have one as well and I’m in love with it. It’s absolutely great machine. He really did great job and he really thought about versatility. Well done 👍🏼
That does look like a very well put together machine. I really like that disc grinder attachment. Thanks for being so up front and real with you "reviews" I look forward to seeing it in use.
Cool innovation, was just trying to do tilt table myself on kmg so thank s Jeremy for the ideas
Beautiful piece of kit!
Awesome, awesome!! Looks like a really nice setup, with amazing versatility. I like the way he put the VFD in the base, and that disc grinder attachment is brilliant!! Looking forward to seeing you use it.
I just bought a 2x48 belt grinder last night. I hav been making knives since I was 11 now I am 13 love your videos been subbed 4 a year
I’m 12 and making knives
I think he did awesome with the grinder. Very innovative stuff.
Thanks for sharing your first impressions.
I definitely need one in my shop!
Nice! can't wait till i have one.
Nice looking grinder and I like you versatile it is. Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic review! Thanks Jeremy!
I’ve been looking at those pretty hard!!! I like his setup!!
Thank you for sharing, the BLACK FOX grinder it is a Rolls- Royce next to my self made one, congratulations to the builder, and to you that you got one freebi, have a nice day.
Thanks again for another great video. And also for not making us fast forward through a silly sponsor promo for which I could not care less. I have been researching 2x72 grinders for about 6 months now and have actually decided to go with the Black Fox model. I’ll be purchasing one next month.
ooooo I'm so jealous , beautiful congrats, great video as always
I have one of his earlier versions and love it. Solid grinder for the price since ur getting a vfd, motor and platen. A lot of the other grinders I was looking at for the same price didn’t come with either a motor or vfd .
I absolutely love mine, but I have to say, this has some really nice features.
Right on. 👍
And that plastic table won't melt, I would assume for 3k it would have stainless table not plastic all it is it's cutting board , for 3k I would rather get Northridge belt grinder.
Those Black Fox grinders are sweet!!
They also have some stripped down versions that are priced really well for those just getting into it. 👍
That's a damn good looking grinder!
Hey there Jeremy, with the black fox grinder you will love the fact that when you go from forward to reverse mode you don't have to change the tracking. Can't wait for you to fire that puppy up. Good luck and have a Great day. Oh and I guess you can go have another cup of coffee.
Nice shirt. I am going to check this out. Thanks for sharing.
Oh you savage! Got a like from me with the title alone... I'm a sucker for a 2x72!
Hahaha that's awesome! I actually have your surface grinder video saved to my watch later! 😆👍
Simple Little Life hey man, that means a lot! Hope you enjoy it. I’ve learned a ton from your channel 🙌
Máquina fantástica
wow... so interesting grinder design..
lol. I thought you said affordable. Unless I missed something, this grinder is on their site for 3500$.
The more he says it’s affordable, the more the price creeps. Do you think this machine is worth $3500? You can get a mini mill for $550 with skoookum metal gears... Can someone justify the price? I can also be making myself out to be a dummy too, let me know if that’s the case.
Wow, best machine/attachments out there
I got a black fox grinder in december. The thing is amazing.
Funny I actually thought about the disk grinder attachment when I was building my grinder. Also a buffing wheel attachment. I never built them, but definitely would be a game changer.
That does look like a bad ass grinder. I would love the horizontal feature. I am still a noob at it all. Using an OBM model at the moment.
Can't wait to see you tune up some handles on that beauty 😉. In the past year there have been a ton of grinders hitting the market, which, as you said, is only good for the end user. Some of those "top end" grinder companies will probably start to either innovate or lower prices to stay in the game. Looking forward to the disc attachment review, would definitely add that to my setup if it's worth it
Back in the day it was cool to have a darlin bolt in your paintball gun. The idea was the light weight made it run faster. Anyway, thanks for sharing the new grinder.
"Delrin"
Looks like a fantastic grinder! Hope they do a 240v version for Europe. Thanks for the great video!
Greetings from Belgium,
Hilko
That disc grinder attachment is a gamer changer for sure!!! I was trying to figure out how to make a mount to convert my regular disc grinder & it would be a huge pain... I love my KMG, but having a 2nd grinder with the 2 tool arm spots makes grinding so much better. Pretty impressive grinder, can't wait to see how it works out... Hope all is well, take it easy...
A few South African grinder companies attach the disc directly to the drive wheel. Requires some more thought into where you locate the grinder to make it accessible.
@@FuzzykidSA could I get the details of those companies? I'm in SA and looking for a good grinder.
@@houbeck8985 Herbst have the option on the drive wheel. I thought NW knives did it as well, though it seems they opted for the disc on the side of a contact wheel instead. You should also check out Vormac grinders, they are producing some great stuff locally.
@@FuzzykidSA awesome, thanks so much for that! The Herbst and Vormac grinders look great - stoked that there are such good local producers (the thought of international shipping fees on all that steel was making me dizzy).
Nice !!!
It looks like a really great grinder. A bit expensive but if it is worth it... It will also be interesting to see a long term review this time next year. One thing that concerns me is the soft rubbery texture of the knobs. Will they hold up in a grinding dust environment without having the metal dust embedding itself into the surface. I have 2 disc grinders that came with rubberized handles and after a few months, it started to feel like you were holding a sand covered handle and you couldn’t get the dust out of the rubber. Those two grinders are trash now. Anyway, that was the only thing I saw that concerned me. Really great vid Jeremy. If any other companies contact you wanting to give you free tools, please feel free to have them contact me...;-)
Hahaha! Sounds good Todd 😉👍
Looking forward to see your continuing work with this. I'm a bit concerned about that delrin rest... I would think that repeated scraping of metal tools (ie. bevel guides, etc.) might wear into it. Keep us informed.....
Will do for sure 👍
seems like a nice machine. I'm curious to see how that darlin work rest holds up though
Great video and review, thank you!
However, the prices on this grinder and others like it... Ouch!
Check out Alec Steele. I bought the 2X72 for $1600 and I am really pleased.
I'm really anxious to hear your thoughts on the 9" disc sander. It's a 1 1/2" tooling arm so it would work on my Reeder Product grinder. I, like you have a seperate disc sander. It would be great to free up some space if it is infact a decent product. I just looked at his website and he appears to have some very interesting products. I just bought a surface grinder a month ago which I just love or I would have looked into that a little more as well. BTW Jeromy I'm really glad you've never lowered yourself to advertising games as many do but giving this guy a shout out may be a helpful boost to many.
I like to play Raid: Shadow Legends over Nord VPN while listening to Audible, when making my knives.
Hahahaha! Whatever turns your crank 😆👍
LMFAO! Nice little jab at Alex. On the other hand, however, he IS making money hand over fist....
I feel kinda mean as Alec is very much inspired me to make my first knife, as did Jeremy and Alex.
I have learned much from each.
had the idea from brilliant?
Pretty neat grinder. Interested in seeing it in use and what you have to say about it then.
I’m going to buy a belt grinder if my wife says it’s OK.
What a hen pecked fool.
So jealeous! I am safing for a belt grinder realy badly want one!
No Brasil é complicado é tudo caro e difícil para fazer ... Ficou boa sua máquina.
Still love my OBM..
Also... if you find that you're just not in love with it, send it my way. ;)
Might have been good to identity motor mfg voltage, phase and hp. No contact information in the description for him. I will look him up. Thanks for the video. Steel and Stelter have a sander for sale from MT too.
2HP, 3600 RPM with 5" drive wheel. 3 phase motor. The VFD can take 115 or 130 input for the 220 motor.
That's an incredibly well-designed grinder! I just bought mine last year and spent a ton of money (for me) on the motor and VFD. Is there an option to purchase just the frame and integrate my own electronics?
Yeah! We base a base option and a DIY bolt together kit!
I would use old for grinder for wood since vac works great with it. Use new grinder for your metal work👍
Off topic, what kind of dust collection do you use that will handle all the sparks? Everything I have run across is for wood dust only.
I... Might be a little jealous... Just a little.
@11:09 could it also be flipped horizontal to the right instead?
I suppose it could. The reason I went with the left is because it would make changing the belts in the horizontal mode much more difficult. 👍
Can you use your small wheel attachments on it? Thanks Jeremy. 👍
Hey Jeremy, grinder looks great, probably a bit out of my price range but I have a channel suggestion, what about work-around Wednesdays? Where people send in photos of decent and safe work-arounds which we can all share. I'm a part time bodger so it's hard to justify buying all the gear I want (very little actually needed) so I have to improve and sometimes it works and others are spectacular failures but it would be great to see and share stuff... Like a horizontally angle grinder with a 150mm sanding disc.. Stuff like that.. Anyways, love the channel, keep it up, thanks! Damian
Apologies, was typing too fast... improve should be improvise and I meant a horizontally mounted grinder with a sanding disc.
Is the VFD waterproof? Confused how a delrin work rest is touted as a feature due to wet grinding, but then the vfd sits under the work rest. I think it was done as a cost saving measure. If rust was a concern, why not aluminum?
Is it good to have the VFD permanently mounted so close to the belt?
Yeah. As long as it’s seal from the dust there would be no issue.
Nice looking machine but a bit pricey still. Not trying to undercut your mate but Justin from " Good of the land" reviewed a very nice looking grinder a while back, was only about US$500 I think (without motor). Looked like a really good entry level tool for beginners.
I have an Aus made Radius Master 2x48, also very pricey but really versatile and compact. One day I'll get round to mounting a disc to the non drive end of the motor tho.
I'm in the middle of building a Jeremy Schmidt 2x72 grinder, have you noticed any pros and cons between the dc motor vs the AC motor? Either way I go with it I plan on having variable speed. Any input is greatly appreciated. BTW you channel is outstanding 👌
Like to see you do a video demoing this machine sharping kitchen knives. Would like to see it with the disc attachment. Can you put a round whetstone on it?
I'll never buy one for home use but....I am interested...who knows...maybe in my garage in my next home. :) How mcuh does this machine cost?
Oooh ever looked at Vashti grinders? There made in canada!
I've heard of them but haven't really checked them out.
@@SimplelittlelifeLoving the look and features of his new RIFT and SHIFT series grinders.
They’re
Sudo Nym - oof, shots fired
Seeing that you got a new grinder, how about I take your old one off your hands 😜 I will pay for the shipping.
Chatted with him in Portland told him I was from Canada he ask me if I’d bring the grinder to u I said Canada’s big place mate lol also there was couple guy there with the disk arm ideas
Hahahaha, that’s funny! 👍
Hey how much time have you gotten to use it so far?
Really nice , myself I can’t justify the price ..as I don’t use one enough
Fair enough. 👍
Dayummm! Shots fired!! Haha (this comment was brought to you by Raid Shadow Legends)
Hahaha! 😆 No shots fired, my guns weren’t even out. But I like to look at CZcams as a place to share info, not do anything to make a buck.
Haha! To steal a line from the infamous Mr. Feder, “I’m with you!”
I know what you (and Geoff) mean by that....😆👍
Hi,just cheched out theyre site,i might of missed it ,could you tell me if the grinder runs on 120 or 220 thanks.keep up the great vids!
Either one👍
cool thanks
Did anyone else look up the melting point of Delrin, just out of curiosity? Good good... :D
I think it’s 250°F max operating temp. 👍
@@Simplelittlelife Yeah, the idea of a plastic work rest and boiling hot metal did make me nervous, but it turns out Delrin is pretty resilient.
So wait, this wasn't brought to me by Clash of Audible VPN vs Square Space? 😆
Does it fit kmg accessories too or not
Yes it does 👍
Very cool but I will stick to my TW-90
I like the company owners name🤗
Thadius can send me a grinder anytime. Good for you Jeremy..
Brought to you by RAID SHADOW LEGENDS
So takin a look at his website the setup you have is almost $3000 and he sent you that for free? Nice 👍 , ive been making knives now for 3 years doing well could in no way justify 3 grand on a gucci grinder when mine can make a great knife and mine was around a grand , good video though 👍
Link to the grinder?
If this delrin workrest is some true real estate and he got it for free, does it qualifies as free real estate? ;)
That is an insane price for a benchtop model
It is a good deal isn’t it?! 👍
Insta-liked for the "stupid video game" comment followed by the compensatory Canadian "sorry". XD
If I had 3000 I would get it.
Hi Jeremy, I would love a machine like that.... I would just have to sell both kidneys and my liver for it though.
1st
Woohoo! 😆👍
At $3,400 with a plastic rest which cannot be resurfaced to true level, the only thing it's going to do is sit on the shelf. Certainly not on mine.
Looks almost exactly the same as Jeremy Schmidt's grinder he made on his channel.
what is the price
This cant compete on price, 3500$ is to expensive for this grinder.
$3000 seems like it’s on the high end for price.
Not compared to what else is out there and how high level this is.
@@Simplelittlelife it looks very nice but I would expect there to be all metal parts on a $3000 machine. I can understand why he would make the table from delrin but once that gets messed up you have to replace it
Dude, 3k?? No wonder people do their own DIY.
great value @ $3060.00 :-/ ??
I didn’t say it was cheap. If you know anything about grinders, you will know this is a fair price.
Hi can I pls get a shout out
expensive
Not compared to what else is out there and not when you look at what you’re getting for the money.
3k ffs 🤦🏿♂️🇬🇧🧕🏿
