I was at the Gabba for the Tigers 2019 final.
Waverley Park was able to get 92k in 1981 due to the amount of standing room it had. 75k was only a rough estimate of how many people could fit on all the bench seats
Mate I think that the amount of people in the crowd number is the amount of space you can sit. They used to sell standing seats in the day
Great Video.
Also, the Swans have actually held practices at Lakeside Stadium (Lake Oval) on Occasions when they’re in Victoria.
Some points in response... Subiaco actually got over 52000 for EF vs SF WAFL grand final. You commented about how the capacity 43k was higher than the record 44k. Thats probably because around 2010 they added about 1500 seats by making aisles narrower and installing extra seats in walkways that we empty beforehand.
WACA record was 34k for Eagles vs Melb. They later reduced to 24k then 20k and currently knocked over a few more stands and down to 10k or less. EF is playing there temporarily as EF oval is being renovated.
Olympic Stadium has seating that moves in and out to allow footy and cricket to be played there. Collingwood had a great record there as Sydney was used to playing at the round SCF.
I like it cardman.
Kevin Bartlett could never play night games at Waverley he had contact lenses
I play my home games at Brunswick st oval
Arden st was just used the day north Melbourne vs cats aflw it's being used for more aflw now then the guys games
Sorry I’m late great video very good video idea
you missed the 47,000 at victoria park in April 1948, when Collingwood defeat South Melbourne
haven't watch it yet but it looks interesting!
What AFL videos would you like to see over the next couple of weeks on the channel?
Enjoy the Gold coast 😁!
121,696 Collingwood v Carlton historically the two biggest clubs in Australia.
Great video Cardy, can’t believe 121,000 packed into the 1970 grand final, love these type of videos with the stats, hoping to see more
@@lachie4017 you have to pay for a Cardman 22 membership, then you get these, they’re called perks, you can use them in livestreams, and comments
Lol 157,000 for a hawthorn training centre
In regards to the stadiums which exceeded capacity, back in the day the majority of the stadiums were mainly standing only so although they had a theoretical maximum capacity they were able to squeeze more in if the demand arose. For the more modern stadiums where the capacity was exceeded that would be due to the corporate boxes as the official capacity is all available seats but for big games especially it is common to have quite a few people in the corporate boxes who will just mill around socialising but won't actually have a stadium seat itself but they get counted in the official attendance.
Great video idea cardy
#18 was Brisbane's first Final of any form since 2009. I was actually in that crowd, having travelled alone 4 hours on a train to be there.
The atmosphere in that first quarter at the Lions scoring end where I was seated behind when we were still in it before Richmond pulled away was intense!
This is probably one of my favourite memories due to getting to be part of history, despite the result.
This is an interesting vid I’m happy that most people ever at Adelaide oval was when crows were play and I think most people were going to know that MCG was the stadium that held the most
Great vid
Here at livestream it is fire
aye whats up cardy
Cool great vid
What about people first stadium
It's amazing how big the MCG is, Great Video Cardy!
Old VFL/AFL stadiums had standing room, so therefore you could fit more people in the stadium even though there were not enough seats for everyone.
this was long before 1989 where an English Football Game involving Liverpool had that tragic situation of too many fans in the standing room area.
You missed Victoria Park, I think the record was 37,000
Can confirm that the actual highest attendance for Football Park was the 1976 SANFL Grand Final between Sturt and Port Adelaide.
66,897 tickets were sold, but the SANFL decided to open the ground up for free and so thousands more people flooded in. Police estimate attendance was around 80k. There was so many people that they had to sit along the field behind the boundary line as it was starting to get to the point that spectators were being crushed.
Was just taking records for VFL/AFL games only, not sure if I already specified that in the video. But that’s a very interesting stat
@@CARDMAN22 no worries lad, but yeah the ‘76 SANFL GF is the actual highest crowd 👍👍
You missed Victoria Park - 47,224 in 1948 COLL vs SM
Yeah I apologise for that, I don’t know how I missed it, considering I literally noted it down
finally another footy video. great job cardy!
Great video Cardy, and a very interesting video
Adelaide Oval got 65k
Great video cardy! great effort put into this video. 121K is monstrous for a afl crowd
Great video! That was pretty interesting.
Great video as always Cardy!
(I live in brisbane so I might go to gold coast 🤔)
I was lucky enough to be at the 1970 G.F., my very first V.F.L. match. My old man brought me down from country Victoria to the game. Can't remember Jezza taking that mark, I'm guessing everybody got up and obscured my view even if it was in standing room but can remember the little Carlton rover Ted Hopkins kicking those vital goals as that happened at the other end of the ground. An epic match, an epic crowd.
Adelaide Oval's was actually the phil walsh showdown in 2015, with 54,000 people
Just watched stream and switched to this
Great vid Cardy Nice to know all the stadiums largest capacity (don't worry the thumbnail looks good xd)
Nice job mate
Great video
you haven't even watched it you commented 1 minute after it was posted and it is 10 minutes long
Cardy people can stand
Good vid cardy like to see some more of these vids
Great work mate. Can’t wait for next season. Hope your well. Keep up the good work
Ps first
Great idea cardy!!
Great video cardy your vids always get better
Great Video Cardy!
If you are calling VFL crowds as AFL then you should also call SANFL and WAFL games as AFL in this list. Counter to that you should start when the actual name change occurred and became the AFL
Waverley Park official capacity was 77 500, such a shame it was abandoned as an AFL venue and for that soulless Docklands stadium
Yeah it would’ve been good if they didn’t demolish the ground, however marvel stadium is in a better location than Waverley was
We need the biggest sporting avents
Maybe make a top 10 or 20 ranking video about the best matches you have been to.
I miss the good old Subiaco Stadium (Domain Stadium) it was getting bigger over the years then it just went down hill
3:01 i know you're talking about AFL but there was actually 52,871 at the WAFL GF between East Freo and South Freo in 1979
Also they left 2 block of seats so there's a capacity of about 160 ;)
The fact that the top 2 most attended grounds ever are both the hawthorn home ground is shocking!
Glenferrie oval, now if they were able to fit 20,000 in there, they would have done a good job,..man, that's one tiny ground.
I would go with the footy tipping
@@shannonhumphries3647 great idea Shannon. Always great to start the footy tips in January. 🤥🤭
good stuff cardy!
Optus Stadium in Perth was bigger than the GABBA in Brisbane anyway
nice I love that aami stadium came instead of Adelaide Oval
Great video cardy, the mcg attendance shocked me 🤯
Not me man I already knew back then that health and safety were not as tough lots and lots of standing room
Not a bad video
adelaide oval 54468 port v adelaide
Come on if your going to use VFL crowd numbers in your lists then you should have noted that Adelaide Oval's largest Footy crowd was 62,543 in 1965 for the Port Adelaide Vs Sturt.
Fair enough but it was just easier to do it for the VFL/AFL comp only and it would’ve just made a lot more sense. Perhaps that’s a video for some other time
great video :D
What about Victoria park?
Yeah bloody hell I forgot to include it, the highest attendance was 47,000 (1948 Collingwood vs South Melbourne)
i keep changing my name and pfp, i forgot what u know me as, i think either Fyfeify or Xander Crowe AFL
Well done good information 👏
Get a win
The capacity was a recommendation, but because all these grounds were 90% standing room they jammed them in and in those days, people would cram in. Not until later years did they restrict attendance due to health regulations. It appears you left out Glenferrie Oval record attendance of 36,000 Vs Carlton 1969. VFL Park reached that 92,000 because they let people sit in the aisles....never allowed again from that day onwards.
great video well done cardman 22 well done keep up the good work ;)
Same with whitten oval used for aflw
Love ur videos
Should do it with bbl next
so many comments already!!!
Anyone else here from the stream?
Gday cardy can you play some cricket 22
Nice Cardy great seeing the videos coming out consistently in the off season
MCG max crowd is 100,000 and on your thumbnail it’s a number over tjat
Yeah well the capacity now is 100,024 but the highest crowd ever was over 121,000
Wasn't the 1945 GF ''The Bloodbath" game between South Melbourne & Carlton (Princes Park)
From the stream
the gabba must be wrong because it hosted the grand final in 2020 sureley the gf had a higher crowd
nice vid cardy epiccccc
Let's go!
Here from stream 😏
Nice vid
Yo yo yo
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
not first :) good vid and stream
Hi
First Edit: Congrats to who got first they deserve for quick reflexes
Good vid
Standing room crowds was how the old grounds got more crowd numbers. Modern stadiums are all seating
Yeah makes sense
