I tried this pattern with nylon cord in blue and light green; it looked like the tutorial didn't use that much cording, so I tried 2 feet of cording for each color. From it, I got about 6 flowers in for the blue cording before it became too short for another flower, so that's about 1 1/2 inches of bracelet. It ends up being similar to the length I would use for other bracelet patterns with gimp or otherwise-for a small wrist like mine, probably 7 feet of cording works for the flower color (if you want the flowers all the way around; it would also look really pretty only halfway around, too!). The green cord (or whatever color you use for the "stem") can stay about 2 feet or less, since its length won't really change, as it's more the base and not being knotted much. Probably nylon or other thicker cording would be best; friendship bracelet yarn probably can work, but might be a little thinner. :) Happy bracelet-making!

How do you finish the bracelet so it's able to be worn? There's no loop at the top, no ends for a square knot sliding closure...

I have used 3mm also 4mm diameter thread, the lengths are almost the same.
I wonder if other cords could be used? More feminine ones in nice fsbrics.
