  • Hope you enjoy this Star Wars inspired LEGO stop motion movie I made more than 30 years ago. It is shot on Super 8 film, which means that this is real handicraft made on real film, no digital effects. I started planning it when I was 14 and spent 6 years in total making it. The film was broadcast on UK The Children's Channel, Swedish SVT and Norwegian NRK. It was rejected by LEGO, who for some reason found it too violent. Best regards, Christian Stage.

    The fact that it's been over 7 years and this doesn't have as many views as The Magic Portal is crazy! This is incredible! The massive sets, the super cool minifigures, the effects and those camera movements were so well done! And the voice acting was really great! I hope more people see this classic piece of brickfilming history! It's just too good to be ignored!

      Hi Chazin, thanks for your nice comment and support. I agree, 5000 views is not much on youtube, and I'm surprised to see how many views other movies get. I have nvever done anything to advertise the film og link it, so maybe that's part of the explanation. My idea was not get as many views as possible, just to make it availble online. However, I'm very pleased with the more than 100 nice comments i have received. PS. The magic portal is also a gret film. Cheers from Christain

      Hi Big Jake Thomas! Thank you so much for your comment, it really meant a lot to me, especially coming from a "kindred spirit" super lego animator like you! I've been watching some of your movies now, and I really enjoy your classic animation and your sense of humour. I'm amazed to see the quality (and quantity) of your work, And it warms my lego heart to see how much you rely on in-camera effects and traditional stop motion rather than prefabricated digital effects. I especially enjoyed Moonbase. Best regards from Stavanger, Norway. Christian.

    I am always searching for the unknown hidden animation gems and this is one of the rare moments.
    I love this. The effects are remarkably well done for that time, the camera work gives a feeling of scale and epicness. I especially like to see brickfilms from before there were official Lego Star Wars Sets. I assume the camera was very clunky. How did you move it through the tiny sets?

    • @christianstage8404
      @christianstage8404  Před 6 lety +11

      Hi Schuschinus! Thanks a lot for your comment to my brickfilm. It means a lot to me to receive such nice words from a fellow bricklover almost 30 years after I completed the film. Yes the camera was big, but not that big (around 30 cm long, 15 high and 10 wide). All my sets had removeable walls, so that I could point the lens inside. The camear had a very good macro-lens which made the sets and the "actors" look big, which helped a lot on the epicness. But of course, some of the sets were also quite big. I filled the whole attic of my parents. Best regards from Christian, Norway.

    This film is truly amazing! It is without a doubt one of the very best of its time, and many of the aspects of it even still hold up today. Some of the shots that you managed to achieve have me jealous! I have a keen interest in these historic LEGO animations, so I would love if you could share more details of it. Do you remember the exact years in which production began and ended? What country was it filmed in? Were there other people involved in the production? Did the film always have the sound, or was that added at a later stage? If so, when, and how? How did it come to be broadcast on TV? You mention that LEGO rejected it; can you explain how it came to their attention, or any other details surrounding their rejection? Sorry for asking so much at once, but I really would love to know.

      Dear Sillypenta, thank you so much for your intereset in my film, which has its 30th anniversary this year. It warms my brick heart that it can still entertain and inspire today. To answer quickly: Preproduction 1983. Production 1984-1988. Post production 1989. So, it was made a long time ago in a country far far away, called Norway. City Stavanger. The studio was the attic of my parents, who also helped out a little bit. But mainly, it was a Solo-trip (pun intended). I made a preliminary soundtrack and sent the film to Children's Channel UK, who took an interest in the film and offered to make a more professional soundtrack, but with my choice of music. So they invited me to their show as a "guest star". Before that, I had sent it to various European TV stations with differeing success. Also to LEGO , who rejected it for being "too violent". Quite funny, when you look at their actions concepts today .... Probably, they didn't like that I had made my own models and patined their brick figures. Hope this was useful info for you. Now I'm gonna explore your channel. Have a great day! Christian

      @christianstage8404  Před 7 lety

      Hi Max, thanks a lot for watching and commenting on my movie. Yes, that was a long time ago (not in a galaxy far far away, but in Norway, Europe). I'll tell you the short story. When I finally finished the filming, after having spoent several years on it, I wasn't sure how to make the sound. But I knew the film material was reasonably good, so I contacted The Cildren's Channel. This was a British cable/satellite channel, which doesn't exist anymore. They saw the film, and told me that could do the sound if they were allowed to show the movie. For me this was a fantastic deal, I got the movie finished with sound and everything, and I got to show it on TV so a lot of kids got to see it. They even invited me to London for an interview, which was like a dream come true when I was 19 years old. The Children's Channel used professional actors for the voice, but I had selected the music and written all the lines.
      By the way, I also watched your three movies. They are short and great. I love your mix of old school and new school effects. And you are able to make good stories and scenes. So, from one Lego fan to another, may the force be with you!

I had to paint and create the figures myself, and as you can see, some of the sets are not lego but made from all kind of little plasctic bits and pieces. It took a loooong time.

During the search they were attacked by Vahelem's fleet that were looking for them. So a battle starts and a music called Concerto 2 vonószenekarra I. Tétel (Részlet) plays in the background. Holand and Ace are in the battle just wanna let you know. After the battle was over they spot a planet. The fleet lands on the planet and everyone is sad. Knowing they have no chance to defeat Vahelem, while A köpeny: Bevezetés plays. An Officer orders to start building immediately. That's all I remember.
