    If one good thing has come from my contract being delayed with DCL it's the fact that I can watch videos like these to prepare myself a bit better! I spend weeks trying to find my white trainers to bring thinking there could be no markings at all but those Nike ones look great.

    • @ashbull
      @ashbull  Před 4 lety +5

      Shoes can be slightly stressful to find if you don’t know exactly what’s acceptable but any white ones full leather are good like those Nike. You can get reebok and the little uk flag on the side is ok. Alternatively they do sell shoes on the ship for like $30 and they are pretty good. They are comfy and work well although trying to get them can be time consuming as they might not have a size onboard you need.

    Nosey person here hoping you will just tell it like it is. I'm an Australian booked for the Wonder when it comes here next year. Tipping isn't the norm for us, like yourself in the UK. What's expected? I believe wait and stateroom staff get the tips. What about all the other crew? Especially those entertaining all those kiddies? Or do we tip those as we go? I've watched a few videos of people saying tip $1 here, tip $1 there, but nobody has mentioned the kids club's crew. And is $1 each time enough? In Australia it will be a coin🤣

    • @ashbull
      @ashbull  Před rokem +1

      So on the cruise guests are charged daily for a service fee which is for tips. These usually go divided for crew you won’t see but for the cruises over your side of the world next year you will have the option to opt out of this.
      For the kids club, that position doesn’t accept tips so if you give money to a youth activities counsellor they have to hand that in to the managers and it goes into a pot which the department uses to buy things for the whole department. If you want you can always bring sweets and chocolate and your kids can give them to their favourite staff member in the kids club, that’s more effective. It’s suggested you tip at least at the end of your cruise for your server at dinner( it’s the same person who serves you all cruise) and house Keeper. But it’s all down to you and what you think.

    Hello Ash, i have a question, i am starting to work at DCL in a short time, i see wirecard got sued for fraud, do you know if they change the payment method?

    • @ashbull
      @ashbull  Před 2 lety +1

      So that wirecard was a different company to the wirecard company that was used for payment. They were a smaller company owned but run separately from Wirecard who had the issues. The company has changed its name to make sure people know they are different so it’s now called northlane who provide the payment options for crew. Do not worry about there being security issues with your payment method. I’ve never had any issues.

    Question: Did Google Fi work for you in the ship (cabin) at all? Or only on land/ in port?

    • @ashbull

      You won't get any phone signal in the ship in crew areas/cabins. You'll be able to use the crew internet where you get access to WhatsApp and iMessage and some messaging services free.

    • @ashbull
      @ashbull  Před 2 lety +1

      To use Snapchat you'd have to use an internet package it's not something you can freely use all the time like WhatsApp.
      You will not be paired up with someone from the other gender. The only time this can happen is if you are married.
      The food is ok, it gets very repetitive. It's not guest food so its not as nice or fancy but it keeps you alive :)

    I had the interview with the recruiter for Disney Cruise line and she sad the WiFi is included and always available for me
    But just right now I saw your video and you sad the WiFi isn’t not included and I have to pay 10$ for just 250mb ?
    If you can answer it would be very helpful
    pleaseeee

    • @ashbull
      @ashbull  Před 2 lety +1

      So internet on the ship does cost money, prices are always subject to change but it’s around that price range. Now disney might currently be giving limited free internet for crew. The last time I was on there we were getting 250mb free a week but that was just as a special thing. They might not continue with that by the time you get on there. I can’t speak on what it will be.
      You will always have free WhatsApp and iMessage so you’ll have the ability to communicate and message family and friends back home.

    • @ashbull
      @ashbull  Před 2 lety +2

      So you get paid every two weeks based on your contracted wage. When you go on vacation you do not get paid but Disney pay you a small bonus which gets paid to you before you debark the ship and then you get paid again when you rejoin the ship.

    Is the crew laundry is free

    • @ashbull
      @ashbull  Před 2 lety

      Yes, it is you have free access to laundry. The ship also has free laundry detergent if you want to use theirs. It is in big tubs right with the washing machines. You can also buy your own if you have a certain brand you like. Your costume(uniform) is washed by the laundry department but you have to wash your own clothes.

    Ridiculous, cant get how companies are still getting away with treating people like this. Probably has to do with people being focused on divisive issues instead of realizing the companies don't care about you no matter what you "are"

      You can apply via the Disney cruise website and I believe they use agencies depending on what country you come from.

      Yeah it can be as we are at sea and lots of people use it. For example I replied to your comment two weeks ago and it only just arrived now, very slow.

    Sorry you've used your entire pay check calling your family. Go back and check the kidnapped children chained up in the bilge.

    Hi Ash! Your videos are extremely helpful for us anticipating our first time working on DCL. I do have a few questions:
    1. How big/many bags/luggage are recommended for first timers? because I wouldn't want to over-pack and at the same time, under-pack as well.
    2. Which part of the ship are cabins for crew usually located?
    3. Do we pay to do laundry like those DIY laundry shops or is it totally free of use?
    4. Are there any dedicated spaces for people who are religiously active say Chapels for Christians, prayer rooms for Muslims, etc.?
    5. How may break times are normally allotted for the crew given that work hours are definitely longer than the usual?
    I hope this isn't a lot and that I hear from you soon. Don't get tired of filming! Your videos are really informative. Stay safe

      First off congrats on being hired and thank you for wathcing the videos i am glad they are helping.
      Ill try and answer the best I can below:
      1: So depending on where you are coming from. If Disney book you a flight with two allocaetd baggage alloweance i say bring two bags. I always did. I always brought a suitcase and a duffle bag. But 1 bag is also enough. You have to remember about space in the cabins. Two large hard suitcases will be difficult to store and can make living in a a cabin misrable especially if your roommate has large cases as well.
      2. The crew cabins are varied and are not in one particular part of the ship. They could be forward,Aft or in the middle but they will all be on the lower decks pretty much under the water line.
      3.Laundry is free. They have washing machines and dryers and also provide washing powder. Your crew uniform will be washed by the crew luandry but your own personal clothes will be washed by you in the free machines. You can always buy your own detergent as well if you prefer a softer wash or a different smell.
      4.There are some and they often have rooms that get booked for those reasons. worship groups or indiviual worship is catered for on the ship so if you need time and a private place you'll have options.
      5. This one varies by department. There are strict maritime labour laws that govern how many breaks we have in a 24 hour period. I can't really advise on breaks as each department runs differently but youll have your break to sleep/socials and then you'll have your meal breaks. Its a tiring place to work and it is long hours.
      Thank you for your kind words. Good luck with everything and if you have more questins let me know.
      Ash
