  • This is a follow up by request to my first video showing the setup on my Truck. The setup has changed due it being winter now. So all have become amber and work so much better in snow at night. Some used to be white with an amber lens change and some were amber to begin with(pro fogs’s and driving) over all it’s a wonderful setup with multi beam options with switches depending on visibility and traffic. And questions please comment below and I will answer. Thanks!

    Sweet setup!! I've got the SS3 Pro Amber fogs and love them. I like how you mix & match the different beam patterns to your advantage!

    That's an awesome setup you have there! Those sport SS5's sure throw light a long ways down range. Even from a camera which never do any of these lights justice as they always seem brighter in person. Considering the sport SS5's are drawing 40w and the Pro SS3's are drawing 36w the SS5's appear to go a lot farther down road.
    I ordered 2 pairs of SS5 sport in spot pattern because of your comparisons, so thank you so much! I ordered them in selective yellow but will swap to clear lenses to achieve a 4000k light. The warmer colour temperatures sure help a lot with snow and eye fatigue.
    Thanks for these comparisons, it's greatly appreciated!

    Excellent Light options from DD. I’ve just had my C3 ditch lights fitted to my UK MSRT Ranger and I’m delighted with them. The performance and build quality is just luxury. You have some Amazing driving scenery over there! Be safe on those icy roads!

    Diode dynamics SS3 and SS5 are fantastic. I went with amber sports on the SS5 with clear lenses. In retrospect, I think I should have gone with the SS5 amber pros to with the clear lens, just to get that extra punch of light. Don't get me wrong, they are bright, but being mounted low on a subaru crosstrek with all driving beams. Some extra light output would help in my application. (The spot lens went way, way too far down the road for my liking, and isn't needed where I drive.) Love your setup, it's pretty impressive. Great job showing the differences of outputs

      Diode dynamics have a 90 day exchange period of you are within that to exchange your SS5 sports to pro's. How many SS5's are you running?
      I believe the SS5 Pro thermistor will cut back the power after being on for even 10 minutes straight. By around 30 or 40 minutes of being on they will be around the sports brightness level if it's 70° out. This is assuming they are like the SS3's as they for sure throttle down the light output and the pro's become the same brightness as the sports. The SS3 max is brighter than both of them even after being heat soaked. The sports never seem to get hot enough that the thermistor kicks the output down. Super efficient design on the sports with the heat sink to power output.

      @PondstompingAdventures Před rokem +1

      @aaronolsen8787 wow. Didn't know that about the exchange policy. It's way over 90 days now. I am running 4 SS5s. I am still happy with the sports. That is excellent information on the lights power and temperature relationship. I knew they would go down, but now I am glad I got the sport. I have run Vision X light cannon 6.7s on my old truck. Phenomenal, but they wouldn't fit on my subaru crosstrek bumper mount. I will use them on the new truck when I get the mount built hopefully this summer sometime.

      @@PondstompingAdventures did you try the clear spot lens on the SS5's before swapping to the the driving lens? I'm running 4 selective yellow SS5's with clear spot lenses for a 4000k colour temperature. I had 4 of the 4.5" vision x light cannon knock offs but with the same legit top binned luminous 25w led chips that vision x uses. The knock off cannons had the same 10° pattern that vision x uses. The 15° pattern on these SS5's is definitely wider in real life so I think the 10° rating on my old lights and the 15° rating on these SS5's is accurate.
      I find these lights throw light way farther than my light cannons did and with a substantial amount more width. If I could've got a 10° SS5 I probably would've went that route as I don't need the amount of height the 15° pattern throws out. But I still love these lights and the beam pattern. They throw so far that I aimed the outside 2 lights out to sides a bit.
      Do the Vision X 6.7" cannons throw light even farther then the SS5's in spot or driving? Do you have the single chip cannons and are they the Gen 1 or the newer CG2 cannons?

    • @PondstompingAdventures
      @PondstompingAdventures Před rokem

      @aaronolsen8787 so the ones I have are gen 1 light cannons 6.7s. They are a 20°spot, but with the euro lens covers they cover a wide area, somewhat low. I could drive at 120 kph or 75 mph and never outrun them. Perfect for moose and deer avoidance up here in alberta, Canada. I did try the spot on the SS5, but I found for my taste, that they cast a beam way too far for my liking. You could beam cars amost a mile away. The max I look for is about a half mile at most. Plenty enough time and light to see moose and deer coming out from the ditches at highway speeds. Lots of empty roads up here at night. Plus I don't want to be that ass that blinds someone. I see headlights, the lights go off.

      @@PondstompingAdventures do you prefer the vision x 6.7's compared to SS5's? I'm from Northern BC (just a 2 hour drive from Grande Prairie) lots of back roads here with moose, deer and the odd buffalo, so I know exactly what you mean. I'm the same way, if I can see headlights or tail lights they get shut off immediately. I've found that with some of my prior setups that don't throw the light as far, that it has affected my night vision and therefore I can't see animals as well. My eyes are very sensitive to that. I'm loving the 4000k colour temperature of these SS5's.
      I really enjoyed the 4.7" knock off cannons and was super happy with the output. I only got these as the last couple years, only 1 will turn on when it's -40° out. Only 2 will turn on at -25°C and all 4 will come back on when -13°C and warmer. Haha. I also have some 3" pods for the close up stuff.
      Do you have SS3's on your setup as well?

    Upper fog lights cause glare from snow so clearly the bumper or low is the way to go.

    Thanks, gives me an idea for my set up.
    Going for a set SS3 max fog, a set of SS3 pro fog and a one spot SS3 on the left (hood)/ fog SS3 (hood)
    Also led yellow bulbs in the headlamps low/high beam. White doesn't help me at all, we get lots of snow and also great on rainy nights

    Nice video,👍
    I went with SS5, 3 pod crosslink with one pro in driving beam and two sports in spot, can’t wait to install them.

    • @Heli_Brandon
      @Heli_Brandon  Před rokem +1

      That’ll be a heck of a setup! I’d try and setup the cross link so they are parallel with each other (no curve) so the spots go way down range and the driving pro (which will be insane bright) will fill everything else with the overlap.

      Thank you for the suggestion.
      May I know what the width of the road where you the video.
      On my setup I was planning to keep Center Pro driving beam and Driver side sport spot in straight line and passenger side sport spot very slightely angled to have an overlap of 25-30%

    The beam pattern is different on each pillar? I've never heard of anyone using an asymetrical setup like that but I guess it wouldn't matter as long as they're aligned correctly. How do you like it?

    Hi, great video showing the lights in action. Quick question I am installing my pods and like to know if I clipped the pod wire connection n order to run them through the hole in my dashboard seeing the grey light pod connection will not fit into the whole. So buy clipping and being able to run through the whole and then reconnecting the wire will this damage the connection if I clip the wires? Hope that makes sense? Thank you

    • @Heli_Brandon
      @Heli_Brandon  Před rokem

      I don’t think it would damage them just get wire crimp connectors and re attach them and make sure not to reverse the polarity. The newer ss3’s and ss5’s have extra wires for the backlight feature. Also the pods include a deutch connector ready to be pre wired you could use. Hope that helps.

    I'm thinking of getting SS3s on my 4runner. But I'm not sure what's the best approach as I'm new to this...
    I'm looking for amber lights for snow, rain, fog as weather here is horrid.
    I was thinking on the roof rack as a light bar. The only other option i have right now is to swap out the standard fog lights i have, but i do use them fairly often when driving in bad conditions or to give me a bit of extra light, and it's nice it's not amber. So I'm not sure if i want to swap these out. Unfortunately, i don't believe i gave any extra mounting points in front... in the future maybe when i get a front bumper. But now, maybe an ss3 light bar with like 6-7 lights. But it's this road legal to use?
