They should stay faithful to the original but some of the game's systems are clunky, outdated and need an improvement. If they weren't planning on changing that then there'd be no need for a whole remake. You may like combat as it is but I don't think it'll fly with today's standards. Especially after Fallen Order & Jedi Survivor. What they need to do is find a satisfying balance between the old stuff & something new.
They are not clunky and outdated to me, they are perfect for the specific skills and perks and character builds present in that DnD inspired format.
If they were to remake the combat system, they would have to change the whole character progression system, the skills, the perks, the items and therefore they would then have to remake most encounters in the game which were build on that foundation, so esentially, they would have to rewrite the whole experience in the game....
Not to mention the game worked well in turnbased, i hope they won't make it anything else other than that.
The thing is, you may be right about those systems not holding up today, but that is the thing, i don't want today's systems, i want KOTOR, only visually improved, so i can play it on modern machines.
I don't want KOTOR to be any other game, i don't want it to be modern, i don't want it to be politically and agenda correct, i don't want it to be inclusive or anything else, i just want it to be the game i fell in love with all those years ago.
@@FSK69 I see where you're coming from, but I think you're catastrophizing a little bit. There's plenty of successful remakes like Dead Space & Resident Evil that have stayed true to the original while combining modern elements that make sense. Updating KOTOR doesn't necessarily mean sacrificing its essence. Larian's approach to Baldur's Gate's old DnD gameplay style proves that a game can appeal to modern audiences while staying true to its roots. But if the remake decides to go in a more action-based direction, I don't think it'll be the end of the world if done right.
Like I said, if they were only updating the visuals, then they'd be remastering it not remaking it. So if you were hoping for no changes to gameplay at all, then you should probably brace yourself for disappointment. But hey, BG3 made turn-based combat work so I'm sure the KOTOR remake can too.
Also, you bring up inclusion and diversity as if they're inherently bad things. It's only bad when it's forced or used as a special treatment. But Star Wars is already one of the most diverse fantasy worlds out there, so if the game reflects that then they're just staying true to the material & making the world more authentic. That's not pushing a political agenda; that's just art imitating life, which the franchise has always done, including KOTOR itself back in the day.
Now if they make ridiculous changes to established lore & characters, like turning Bastila into a lesbian or limiting the player to a certain race or gender, then we can have a valid discussion about pushing bad inclusion & diversity agendas.

I’m sorry, but those of us who know anything about game development over the years tells us that the longer the game stays in development…….the more likely that it’s not coming.
Number one there would be no secrecy, they’d start sharing concept art, early 3D renders and there’d be interviews to keep us enthused.
Another thing is that the Star Wars license to do the KOTOR remake is not without an expiration clause. If whoever is working on it couldn’t get it done in an estimable time, Disney could simply not renew the license with Sony.
Remember this deal was originally between Sony and Disney, not Saber Interactive. And no one is even talking about Sony anymore.

Probably because of its non-canon status. Disney could've easily kept Legends alive as an alternate continuity and continued to make content for it but they were probably worried about confusing people with two separate timelines. As if we're not smart enough to understand the concept. But then again, some people probably wouldn't be.

Sony has been behind star wars games forever. Sony Online Entertainment was behind Galaxies long ago and have still had a hand in most. And I guess you forgot Xbox has tried to do that with Bethesda huh?
If this game comes out I'm very scared the my favorite characters like Revan, Marr, and the GREATEST and MOST powerful sith The Immortal Emperor. Old Palpi is to weak and stupid to go against these 3 since to me he's no sith but just a dark Jedi playing sith.
Couple problems with that statement of yours. First and foremost, you're thinking of completely the wrong game. Its a remake of "KNIGHS OF the old republic" not the old republic. It takes place around 300 years before the sith emperor. 2. Because of the point int time it takes plave within and the game its a remake of, the only character you mention that will be in it at all is Revan, and if you haven't played the original Kotor, I won't spoil it for you unless you actually want to know the secret about who the character you play as. 3. While Revan does technically exist within Canon (and hopefully the remakes expands his Canon), Marr still doesn't. Lastly. Palpatine is actually MUCH more powerful than both Marr and Vitiate (Sith Emperor). Its already been stated by George Lucas himself that no sith is more powerful than Palpatine except for Vader himself. 🤷♂️

I actually recently played Kotor 1 last year, i liked the combat, but for the remake i would like real time combat. I think it would be way too difficult to implement both (that would be insane if they can)
That would be awesome. There wer so many abilities in Kotor, would love to have those in real time. Also fleshing out map sizes and adding much more side content could give us a 50-70 hour experience
