  • Making a 1 night stop at the Stephen C. Foster state park and realizing I should have stayed all week. A super Marvelous National Wildlife Refuge you can actually injury by sitting in the middle of it. Awesome beyond the words it would take to explain it.

We just spent 4 nights at Stephen C Foster - absolutely loved it! No bugs, but saw alligators near the little marina and on the ranger led boat tour. Lots of cool birds too, including ibis & woodpeckers.

Thanks for another great video, Rick! By all means go back and take a boat ride. We camped there March 2018. Cool enough that the bugs weren't bad. Had our kayaks, and paddled a good long way. Saw LOTS of alligators! Best part is when they slide off the bank, come towards you, and then disappear under your boat! Reminded me of Tarzan movies when I was a kid!!!

Awesome visit, Rick!! If you've never taken an airboat ride, it's a lot of fun!!
I've added lyrics, if you don't mind...
    Lyrics
Way down upon the Swanee River,
    Far, far away.
That's where my heart is yearning ever,
Home where the old folks stay.
Way down upon the Swanee River,
    Far, far away-hey.
Wo, that's where my heart is yearning ever,
Home where the old folks stay.
All up and down the whole creation,
    Sadly I roam.
I'm a still a-longin' for the old plantation,
Oh, for the old folks at home.
    Ah-oh-oh!
    Oh, my my!
Well, way down upon the Swanee River,
    Far, far away-hey.
Wo, that's where my heart is yearning ever,
Home where the old folks stay.
All up and down the whole creation,
    Sadly I roam.
I'm still a-longin' for the old plantation,
And for the old folks at home.
All the world is sad and dreary,
    Ev'rywhere I roam.
Oh, darkies, how my heart grows weary,
Far from the old folks at home
Far from the old folks at home
Far from the old folks at home
Far from the old folks at home.

I've been with a lot of Black Bears, never had any trouble with them, though a Girl I worked with when I was with Fish & Wildlife in NY got badly malled by a bear in her tent. But I think they are usually pretty timid unless they have been fed by people regularly. Or you get between them and their cubs

and I don't know this to be fact but based on the length of the trail those could be trail markers in the event of an emergency rangers and EMS can locate you. If that's true I'm thinking there would be a coinciding GPS coordinate for each number?

I think they had 1 or 2 cabins that you could have a dog in, but you pay an additional fee for it. Some people are allergic and so there is a good reason. And of course people should pay for ANY damage their pets do anywhere!! (Except chewing up sticks of course)
