    What an unforgettable concert experience! The Royal Opera House venue was almost as extraordinary as the music performed that night. The unbelievable technique of Ustad Nishat Khan was expertly executed as always, and the sublime nature of his playing shone like the moon itself!

    Nishant has revived the memory of the unforgettable sitar-surbahar duet by Vilayat Khan and Imrat Khan. The two ustads (his uncle and father, respectively) were at their best in 1960s. Here he tries to represent both. Nishant, you justify your name.

    This was one of the most complete and amazing sitar performances by Nishat Khan, par excellence. Let's thank Ustad Nishat Khan for a dazzling performance. And let's hope he comes back again and again with Shariq Khan who is one of the most promising tablists coming up from the younger generation. The program's effect would have been enhanced if we didn't have unnecessary explanations during the performance, and later by the concluding words of the lady. But back to the performance itself. Nishat Khan excelled himself amazingly. He should judge all his performances by what he achieved here. The heights he reached today with his dazzling performance will remain memorable for a very long time to come.

    Great Performance like always, Nishat is easily belongs to the top 2 or 3 capable sitarias today along with his brother Irshad. He instantaneously reminds us of Vilayat Khan sahab and his illustrious legend brother Imrat Khan sahab ( father and guru of Nishat & Irshad)

    There is a lyrical quality about his playing. Powerful right hand but left hand just caresses the frets which gives a uniquenss to his playing. Charming presence on the stage. Reminds you of the great Vilayet Khan saheb

    Beautiful!! I love it! Ustad Nishat Khan, after Ustad Imrat Khan Saheb demise, is a true heir of Imdad khani gharana, and share the space of leadership with Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan and Ustad Shujaat Khan, with each of them having specific flavors! What a legacy!

    • @ajr1247
      @ajr1247 Před 5 lety

      The true heir to Imdadkhani gharana is Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee and then Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan. Ustad Nishat Khan doesn’t even come close to Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee. Please know your facts first. Nishat is inferior to both of them.

      @@ajr1247 why bring hate in to the discussion? That was an honest opinion, it doesn't undermine Pt. Budhaditya Mukherjee. He's in his own league of legends.

      @Sandeep hedge
      First, there was no hate or anything like that. I don’t know where you pulled that from. Secondly, it was NOT an honest opinion. It was just an opinion, but not an honest one. Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee is not in a different league, so mince your words before you say it. Pandit Budhaditya Mukhejee is the only true torchbearer to ImdadKhani Gharana in the sense that he is the only person on this planet who can play like Ustad Vilayat Khan. As a matter of fact, he is that good that he can teach Nishat and all his siblings combined. Go do some research if you like.

      @advocatesiddhantmarathe2100 Před 5 lety

      @Sandeep hegde, your fundamental assumptions are these:
      1)When Houz23 said 'a true heir', you saw it as 'the true heir'. I'm saying this because I'm sure you misread it, and that mistake led to this assumption.
      2)The name of the gharana is Imdadkhani gharana and not the Vilayat Khani gharana. Which means no matter how legendary, iconic etc. Ustad Vilayat Khan may have been, he was still a byproduct of his forefathers and therefore stands subsumed under the collective talent(genetically) of his entire family/gharana. Which means even he is not greater than his gharana(infact even he would arguably not say he is above his gharana). As a result, anyone playing like him does not simply translate into being 'the true heir' to the gharana.
      3)On the level of skill and technicality, you could have a strong point in your claim that Buddhaditya Mukherjee and Shahid Parvez are superior. There are more who might say your analysis of that is deeply flawed too. Most of them would be the followers of Ustad Shahid Parvez, I being one of them.
      4) Musicality is subjective and saying someone's music is obviously better just because you treat it as a fact, doesn't not make it so. Musical quality sadly is not an objective fact. Totally open to interpretation.
      Moral of the story: Its important to understand what qualifies as a fact in order to get your facts straight. I wish you well :)

    I am watching this again after s lapse of some length of time and again think this is one of Nishat khan's best oerformaces to date. Two points here, however. One that the tablla volume was too low, and the effect of the overall performance would have been enhanced if its volume had been higher. Secondly, Nishat Khan should have allowed Shariq Khan to perform as well. He kept a very low profile and was never allowed to show his own talents. And to Nishat Khan: PLEASE come back and do more performances. Or record in a studio with Shariq Khan, or other tablists of your choice. Good luck.
