the lady on the right with the pink and black top had the deepest and realest reaction.

His dad had stage 4 kidney failure so he wrote this song to say goodbye but in the last minute a member of his family gave him one of his so he is better and he gave all the money he made to the British service men

@@princesparklestv6809 , how James got through, this I will never know. The suits wanted him to do a studio voice òver,and he refused. He sang this song raw and bleeding, and you can feel his pain. If anyone was ever unsure of what dispare looked like, James' face, his beautiful eyes, show every agony that one can feel over the loss of a parent. This was the first time that his father had heard the song, and he did so well. He must have pulled his son in close after the director called "cut", as I imagine that they would have both lost their composure after this. I'm so thankful that dad pulled through. I can't see this video without crying for my parents, who both died when I was 32. Your family's reaction was touching, thank you.

James Blunt has the ability to touch your soul. He's a phenomenal song writter
And the feelings are not just sadness, but also happiness, anxious, guilty.. All of his songs touch some emotion, and it is different for everyone. Doesn't hurt that he is also just an amazing guy in conversation and approach. It may not be true, but I've also heard that he doesn't have some entourage following him around. He takes the train or bus to some events. Just like the rest of us. It speaks profoundly to his character.
When he puts his arm on his son to try and comfort him when he was the one dying is so incredible. His natural instinct is that of a father, no matter the situation. Amazing love these 2 show

It would've worked a little better if James didn't have to cue his dad. It's a beautiful and impactful song but you can clearly see James give a subtle nod to his arm at that bit. :)

Wow! That is rough! My dad died of brain cancer 19 years ago, when my brothers and I showed up at the hospital, he asked why we were not at work, then he made us go home. He died five months later. The doctors decided that starving him to death would be a better option than the alternative. I talked to him two days before his death, he said goodbye to his granddaughters, and to my brothers and I. 19 years later, and it still hurts. I still need my dad. What hurts more than anything is that looking back, maybe he needed me more than I needed him, and I should have been more for him.
James and his father were both military men. James was actually a tank commander in the first gulf war. When he was being deployed, his father would say: "You're not my son, I'm not your father, we're just two grown men saying goodbye...". This song breaks me every time I hear it. The video was shot in one take, because James wanted the emotion to be raw and genuine. Yes, its a real story. His father was diagnosed with terminal kidney disease and this was written as a goodbye. In a positive irony, the song was so popular, it got the attention of a distant relative who turned out to be a match for a kidney donation and his dad is now doing great. Lovely reaction 👍🏻😁🏴

I heard that James donated all the proceeds from this amazing video to the wonderful UK based charity 'Help For Heroes' who do incredible work to support ex-servicemen and ex-service women. As both James and his dad were former officers in the British military, it was a fantastic gesture and I salute him for that.

Dad took his own life when I was 17 because the year before, his dad also took his life. So his suicide note and funeral card said

I guess it depends on what kind of relationship you had with your father, and if you had a father, as to how you will react to this song. Through most of my teens I thought my father was a monster. It was only later, with age and experience, that I could see somethings through his eyes, and determine that my childhood wasn't as bad as I had made it out to be, and that in his limited way he was trying to provide for his family as best as he could. We all try to do that for our children, and that is all we can do.

Fortunately after this song got released a distant relative got in touch and was a match for his fathers organ donation.

This somg actually ended up saving his Dad's life. A family member elarned of Charles Blounts illness. They emded up getting a donor from his family. James wasnt a match and his Dad was actually terminal in this video.
I love a lot of James Blunts songs, he connects with you in all his songs. Its similiar to how Ed Sheeran does with his, thats why they are close friends. I reckon Ed has taken some of James Blunts advice, before he become a big selling star. We here in the UK appreciate James but I do still think he is underrated even here. This song only got to number 6 in the UK Charts, ehich is a real surprise, when you consider some of the trash songs we get. Loved your raw reaction to the song and yes it is very emotional to listen too. His Father was told he didn't have long to live, so this was Jame Blunts goodbye song to him. Thankfully his Dad did get what he needed and survived, so its a better feeling knowing that.

I look at this song as speaking about a complicated relationship between Father and Son. Men, many times have conflicting feelings toward their Fathers because the lack of emotion involved in their relationship and not knowing what to expect from one another. A Mother shares a love for her Children as strong as a Fathers but a very different dynamic. For the Mother the bond begins before birth. The Mucho Macho stuff is involved and all that..My Husband died after 26 years of marriage. He had a horrible relationship with his Dad. I never even said that out loud to him.His wanting to impress him went on and on and on. My Husband and I moved to the MidWest from the West Coast. We would visit. They would visit. That is what it was like.. Just 2 Grown Men Saying Good-Bye..He so wanted more. My Husband never got it. He died at 47. I found myself hearing this song from that perspective.

Y sobre todo esta canción la hace llorar y nos hace llorar , porque su abuela también estuvo enferma de los riñones y tuvo la suerte de q fue trasplantada 2 veces
El primer transplante le duró 27 años pero por la misma enfermedad quística lo perdió.
Y el segundo le duró asta q murió hace poco, porque fue perdiendo el transplante y ya ella no quería otra vez la diálisis. Decía q quería descansar q ya quería ir con sus padres abuelos etc.
Se cansó se negó a tomar siquiera agua.
Sufrimos y lloramos mucho rogándole q aunq fuera tomará los medicamentos, pero se negó totalmente. Asta q su cuerpo se rindió y se fue.
Por eso esta canción siempre nos hace llorar y es la favorita de mi hija y bueno mía también
