I believe the track between Jesenice and Ljubljana is actually being renovated right now. There are no trains on this route at the moment - just buses.

In fact the closure is of the Karawanks Tunnel not the stretch between Jesenice and Ljubljana. It was due to close between August 2020 and August 2021 for a complete rebuild (it has major structural defects apparently) and single-tracking. I was due to use this route from Munich to Ljubljana last Christmas and only found out by chance (the trip eventually had to be cancelled anyway due to Covid!). Whether the construction timetable has been maintained due to the pandemic I don't know.

@@hamlet7959 But the tracks between Ljubljana and Jesenice are being reconstructed/renovated, so I guess SŽ used the opportunity.

Oh no, our crappy old coaches. Feel ashamed when I see them in the international trains. Luckily on the way out, to be replaced by new Flirt units, and SŽ are also thinking of buying 20 new coaches for international traffic.
Btw, both Slovenian and Croatian coaches (which are rebuilt from the same type as Slovenian one, built in Goša in the 70s). are not very well suspended, having old Wegmann bogies. So the bumpy ride is not just because of track condition, the Austrian coaches run much smoother. As some already said, the Karawankentunnel and Jesenice - Ljubljana line are now closed for modernisation until July.

I have travelled to Slovenia in the Summer of 2020, and have taken this particular stretch of track from Ljubljana to Jesenice, but in an old Polish Kibel which I believe is now retired. It truly was a stunning journey, but the best of it came in the ride on the diesel train from Jesenice to Bohinjska Bistrica and then onto the lake Kranj via Arriva coach...I was truly astounded by how unknown the entire area is, but I guess it's a good thing if you're looking into quieter holidays, that was really good. I suggest you have a look at more of the country in the not-so-distant future, before the country becomes raided by higher density mass tourism. ;)

I assume when the train, I noticed the locomotive is a multi voltage Siemens Taurus, crossed the Austrian/Slovenian border, the train would've had to slow down. This in order for the locomotive to change from the Austrian voltage of 15KV AC to the Slovenian 3KV DC. I assume it is like on the Brenner pass, between the two voltages, there is a section of the catenary that carries no current, the neutral zone. For example the train coming from Austria would just before the neutral zone the locomotive driver would lower the 15 KV AC pantograph and coast along the track through the neutral zone, not sure the length of the neutral zone. Once it reaches the Slovenian side, the locomotive driver would raise the 3KV DC pantograph, increase to normal speed and on its way. That particular Siemens Taurus, 1216 class in Austrian service, can take all the four European voltages. The 1.5KV DC, only used in the Netherlands and southern France, 3KV DC used in Italy, Slovenia, Belgium, Poland, northern part of the Czech Republic and much of the ex Soviet Union, 15KV AC used by Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Sweden and Norway, 25KV used by the rest of Europe also used in Italy for their very fast trains. If you noticed on that particular Taurus, there are four pantographs each able to take their particular voltage.

The voltage change is at Jesenice, the station on the Slovenian side of the border. I think there is a short neutral section in the middle of the station. Arriving trains can coast in as they are braking for the station stop, and do the voltage change while passengers get on and off the train.

You missed the best part of the trip while you were looking at the toilet, my mother was born in oberaichwald which overlooks the faakersee and to the right you would have seen the burgruine finkenstein as well as the mittagskogel and the Turkenkopf mountains

Thank you, nonstop eurotrip! So this is it. A compartment ! It's the least I like on a train, the worst thing that can happen. What did you want to say in 5:00 with your smiley? Happy or not? Me not happy at all! The only time in my life that I ran into a very, very compartmentalized train was 3 years ago, I traveled very, very badly, I felt very uncomfortable, I was suffocating. Nowadays, we prefer airy spaces, open to the outside, with a good view, excellent light, practicality in movement and travel. So, I loved your train trip report because we can see what you went through, which is always different from one train to another, like when we travel ... but I hated this trip report. No, I don't speak English well. I risk and besides I commit false senses. Also, I prefer to say it in French. Excuse me, but I know you understand French. Alors, j'ai adoré vraiment ton trip report car tu nous donnes ton vécu.
That said, you filmed really well! Thanks to you !

How does one buy an EC train ticket online in advance when it comes to international border crossings? Do you have to use the ÖBB or SŽ website? Is it on both websites?
