“I don’t even think of it as sad anymore. It just feels human.” Thus spoke the dude.
Seriously I was always confused, I never found the minor sound sad
@@kaushalsuvarna5156 i couldnt even hear the difference between major and minor
This is the minor scale. The design is very human.
One of the most profound statements I have heard in my 65 years.
The Bob Ross of guitar with a little affirmation that you are better at this than you thought.
lol i was looking for this comment. very much reminds me of bob ross
Happy little guitar strings!
Hi, Eric. I just wanted to say that after playing for 8 years I discovered your channel. The music theory lessons, or as I call them "guitar knowledge pills", really pushed me to start learning more, and develop this beautiful relationship I have with music now.
It's been a year now, and to realize that my journey has just begun gives me such joy. You've created a beautiful thing here in this place.
To all reading this I wish you the best, keep enjoying music and life.
That makes me so happy to hear!
I really believe that we don't need to know EVERYTHING, because we can do so much with simple classic concepts!
@@EricHaugenGuitar You have a new subscriber, I love the condensed music theory and your way of teaching. Thanks!
Your an incredibly gifted teacher. If there is anybody reading this who is just starting and overwhelmed by all the CZcams teachers. You found the right one.
Thanks man!
I always try to keep it simple!
This is it. This is the guitar instructor channel for me. All due respect to guys like Marty Schwartz, of course. You lay down a foundation, but you refer to musical ideas and artists who actually interest me (like Idles). It makes sense to learn from someone who likes and plays the same type of music I’m into.
As an intermediate guitarist who since forgot his theory lessons/never developed his theory, I’ve been on a funky indie guitar chord island.
I watched your video yesterday and I was mapping out the fretboard on the train home from work. Your voice and attitude are so chill, this is the perfect jumpstarter. Not condescending, but also not assuming everyone’s a pro (when you do, there’s no excuse to not bust out a piece of paper and/or hit that back button a few times.)
You’ve earned my sub, hope to see you again soon
Most of this was a review for me but I have to say that your teaching method is outstanding. There are a lot of great players who aren't great at teaching. I think it's because they fail to see the material from the P.O.V. of someone who is starting out. This can lead to the student feeling like they are 'stupid' or that 'the material is too hard'. I absolutely loved the Philip Seymour Hoffman description of the minor flat five. When I've taught my friends 'some theory stuff', I noticed that they were intimidated by the chord names. I'd always tell them to just imagine that the chords were named Bob, Dave, Mike, etc. You wouldn't avoid someone because their name was Antonio Gustavo Hernandez-Reyes. They have a long name....but they're cool to hang out with. F# Sus 4 is cool to hang with too. Find out what group of friends hang well together and make music. Great lesson.
True 😅🇬🇧
I love your channel and the style and approach you teach.
While I play with a much more dirty bluesy style, EVERYTHING you teach her applies.
Absolute gold mine of essential knowledge 👌
In many ways and on multiple levels, this brief and unassuming video has, at once, made me a better player, writer, teacher, and student. You've made something special here, and you are clearly cut from that same indescribable yet unmistakable cloth from which the world receives it's greatest teachers. Thank you for the insight and inspiration.
Thanks so much Stephen - I try to keep it simple, and chill!
Hit the nail on the head!
Thanks Stephen!
Love your style dude. You are the Mr Roger's of CZcams guitar teachers!.
I’ll come back to this. Great.
Eric: love this video - from the clipboard presentation to the commentary on cliched progressions
Fretboard - of course, memorize natural notes. Just like a number line, we count in whole numbers and skip past fractions or decimals.
After playing "cowboy" songs for most of my life, it is great to get into music theory and working these chord progressions. Yes, the Bob Ross of music. Looking forward for more of your knowledge.
This. This video is why you are the guitar teacher everybody needs! Thanks for making theory less intimidating to us guitarists Eric!
ERIC!!! THIS IS SO GREAT! No one has laid out a roadmap like this before for me, this is so helpful to have a direction and plan of progress. So cool to have a way towards a solid foundation. Thank you and so excited for the jazz sessions coming up! Thanks Eric! ✌️😌🎸
This dude is like a teachers teacher. He just has the right kind of voice and look to come off the right way. And great content, great taste in music, can't argue Neil Young isn't great.
Great...
Thank you! You really kind of simplified everything! Very cool! Glad I tuned in! Awesome!
Geez, I don't think I have seen a clearer, easier way to understand this concept than what is shown here. This is the guy I wish I had taken lessons from back in the beginning. Lucky to have him here posting these videos. HUGE thumbs up to this guy.
Awesome, simplified. Very approachable and easier to dig in, thanks!!! So much
Excellent, Eric. Thank you so much for solidifying some practical music theory here!
This is everything you need to go out and write and play music with your friends and start booking gigs. Great video for people who are ready to start forming bands. Awesome lesson
Have only recently discovered your channel, and I love your content! This particular lesson video is just gold!
What a fantastic video for pulling all this together. Thank you. I found this very helpful and well presented.
I love how you explain theory in practical and scale-able ways! It is hard to overestimate how much this has helped me enjoy the learning process. Thanks Eric!
Great lesson! You have a gift for teaching and I appreciate you sharing.
i think you and i are wired the same. your explanations are in my language and at the pace i’m at right now in my 40 years of guitar journey
Outstanding. You are a GREAT communicator. Really enjoyable to listen to. And thx for sharing.
There is something really special about your style and vibe. This lesson plan is excellent and gave me so much to think about while also giving my thoughts a clear direction. My metaphorical hat is off to you, friend! I look forward to checking out more of your content as this is the first video of yours I have seen.
Philip Seymour Hoffman… that cracked me up 😂 Love your channel, Eric!
What a great video. Really opened my mind. Just stumbled across your channel, and glad I did. Cheers!
Yo just want to say I really love the content you make Eric. Every video is always inspiring to keep working/playing guitar and usually make me think of something differently before or pick up some new perspective! I'm always looking forward to the new video every week and hope everything is chill with you in life. Appreciate ya brother
Thank you Eric!! Really looking forward to Jazz Rock next month. 😂 appreciate you putting this stuff out here for us.
Eric I always learn something from you that inspires me to pick my guitar and listen to what I’m playing in a way where things don’t sound as stale if only just for a while. It’s the best feeling in guitar though. Cheers!
Great video, mate. I love the down to earth approach you have and you're a joy to listen to.
You have helped me in more ways than you know. I now feel so much more confident and free when creating and learning new guitar bits. It's completely changed the way I see and feel this instrument. thank you, thank you, thank you
Dude first vid I’ve watched and it was full of helpful info. Keep up the good work!
I was sitting on a plateau for years with my brain just not connecting the final wires. This video just pushed me past that. Thank you
Great video!! Thanks for putting together a Master class in 25 mins. You are a great teacher, keep up the good work!
Woke up at 3am and found this video. Thought I'd take a look and just save to watch later. Had to watch it till the end, what a helpful lesson.
Such a great lesson! Thanks Eric
Really nice tidbits of information. Made me realize i know more than i thought, but also helped me grow my knowledge.
Love that backing track! and yes I'm part of your True Fire lessons, awesome!
Excellent lesson! Taught in a very easy way to understand.
Thanks for this really informtive lesson, Eric. I've always played by ear and you've encouraged me to start learning the vocab of music. Cheers pal!
Some of my favorite Haugen videos are the ones where he breaks out the clipboard. So good!
All the Nashville Number System says is "presume every chord is major unless otherwise indicated". Minor chords still exist in it!
Hey Eric, you are an awesome teacher, thanks for putting out these videos.
Love the emphasis on brevity and tidbits of wisdom. Inviting viewers to apply the fundamentals is definitely the way to go, you just learn it more deeply that way.
Eric, you are a fantastic teacher and seem so genuinely excited about music and sharing your knowledge! As a lifelong guitar nerd and now a music educator I watch your videos to study your pedagogy and consider different musical perspectives. Your videos are invaluable and very inspiring - thanks for doing what you do.
Dude, you have the calmest, coolest pedagogy . For me, this really works. Thank You. Good Man. ✌🏼Rock n Roll.
Thanks, Duder! I needed this so bad! Looking forward to Jazz for Rockers! Much appreciated!
Great teacher. He makes everything simplified, non-intimidating and easily digestible. I hit like & subscribe. Always Learn something useful on this channel.
I just discovered your channel. Love your teaching style, and will definitely be perusing your video's and learning. Thanks
This is so great. New sub right here. Thanks for the lesson Eric. Looking forward to working through your channel.
I knew all the things on the video but i watched entirely because i love how it's made, it's realy relaxing. Love your style, you are a great teacher!
Sometimes you watch a video and the content just clicks... this is one of those videos for me. Great lesson and really digestable. Even that bit about learning the notes on the fret board, so much easier to skip the inbetweens like you said, the gaps will fill in themselves. Thank you so much for this video.
Thats great job dude. Thank you. Love your work.
hey eric i like the way you explain things, thanks for the knowledge ! I've never really understood modes or why you would want to re-number scales but after doing the minor scale with your explanation its making more sense. Im starting to have a better understanding of intervals in general so thank you !
Hello Eric and all, Doug from Denver.
Love this lesson or Music overview. You have a very unique and cool approach to playing. Love this!
I will be visiting your well of knowledge for insights much more often! Thank you! 🎸
Thank you, Eric!
A good review and something to work on for the coming week.
Be good to you ✌️🍕 🙏🏻
Didnt even read the title. Saw that guitar and had to have a closer look
Best guitar channel, straight to the point at a good speed. Very useful information, unlike some other channels. 👀 Thank you!
Righteous. Thanks Eric!
Another outsitanding session with Eric Haugen...yes! So well done, Good Sir, so well done.
Excellent lesson, thank you!
All these comments really say it all!
You have a new subscriber sir and i look forwarding to growing my ability and skill with this awesome knowledge!
Nice! Very informative my guy, easy to understand
Such a great video. Awesome presentation of this stuff. So relaxed.
Great job Eric and thank you.
Really appreciated your video ! Thanks !
I really enjoyed this Eric. Thanks for putting this video out. Helps a player of 15 years start to apply more theory to their playing.
of the many tutorials I've used, your's is the most academic, and complete. Thanks
I stumbled on your video based on my algos. I've been at this for about 27 years so nothing is really new here, but I'm totally subscribing because I love the way you're presenting this info. The little bits you add from your personality are just so relatable. There's also never any harm in revisiting the material as I've often overlooked things over the years and you never know when seeing/hearing it from another angle is gonna cause a breakthrough. Anyway, I'm ramblin so I guess I'll keep ramblin on. Thanks for the content mate.
Thanks, Eric. Bring on the next lesson. I'm ready.
You are the best! Thanks for this amazing recap
You are one of the best teachers on CZcams!
Not to mention that you bring a really relaxing vibe to your videos that have a calming effect.
Excellent work!
A classic lesson Eric, one of your best among so many greats. You moved me to tears with the Bob Dylan arrangement - your tone on this one is just so beautiful.
Thanks man! Praise be to the almighty Bob!
Dude! You are a musical genius instructor! Keep teaching!!
Eric, hello! Great to see you after all these years. Love this video. It’s inspired me to try to play the guitar, again! Thanks
Great overview -- SUBSCRIBED !!!
Them pistons are hitting now ! Thanks for the lesson! !
Your amp is super cool and sound like the SRT Henry that Doug and Pat have and use !
Love your stuff man
you are the GOAT of teaching guitar . This lesson was so awesome .
Great video, thanks
This is wonderful. I really appreciate this!!!!
Thanks, excellent review.
I love this video ... Your humor made it twice as enjoyable
Great lesson!
Thankyou
You are such a good teacher .
I understand more from one of your videos , than years of stuff going over my head .
Another awesome lesson. Love the Vox guitar, haven't seen one before. Your Tele with Bigsby is still my favourite, but this is a great instrument.
That was a mainline Inspiration Injection !
I actually "know", or have done all this stuff... BUT... the way it was discussed and shown just had a different impact and I immediately started playing things I hadn't before.
I've said it before, I'll say it again.... I really like this guy.
And, thank you Eric.
Your videos make me so happy.
Great practical music theory for guitar summary. Nice work, dude! Shared on FB.
Thanks Steve!
(This vid has 200% more views than anything I've published since Jan 2022!)
Second all the excellent comments before me! Creativelabs big thumbs up for this 25 min. MasterClass! Golden door opens and suddenly 1-3-20 years of guitar playing gets expanded, or a boost plus the roadmap to go progressively further! Eric is “The Dude”.
Thanks so much for boiling this down man… I’m running out to the garage right now with my scrap paper and sharpie and getting to work!
Excellent lesson.
Thank you for your insights!!
Friday evening with a glass of wine, my 1982 S-500 and Eric's Caged Zen really is fun and relaxing. I find myself taking it further and bending and sliding too.
Thank you Eric
Great stuff, EH. I also enjoy your Truefire stuff.
