What's crazy is Kurt was full of riffs and catchy hooks..he could make anything sound cool. Dave group once said he was in Kurts room in the morning and Kurt was pulling off this Drum riff that sounded amazing on a Buss Boy tray...Dave was thinking to himself wow I want to memorize that so I can try it later on the Kit..but he couldn't.

+James Robert I 100% agree and was thinking how I liked his drumming more than Grohl's while listening to "Blew" and "School" from the Bleach albm. I think that Kurt confused Chad not hitting the drums hard enough...or not making a loud enough sound, due to the fact Chad had beat up, fucked up drums by this point, to him being too weak to hit the drums. He had ruined drums, he couldn't hit em hard, wtf did his bandmates expect of him....I think Dave Grohl, unlike Chad, was savy enough to never go a long time with beat up drums and have someone replace them before it became an issue. Lastly, Chad still has notoriety and a nice paycheck from his work on Bleach. he's not starving to death.

TrOllinM4sTEr That's good to know that Chad is getting royalties from his work on 'Bleach'. I know Kurt got into the habit of trashing Chad's drum set at the end of each show-over Chad's protests.
I also wonder if whatever major label Nirvana got signed to (Geffen?) basically told Kurt to get rid of Chad or no contract. While Grohl is indeed a badass drummer I liked Chad's style more. I can't remember the name of the song but it was from 'Best of the Box' (Francis Bean's favorite picks). It went something like "Your life is shit" but anyway I loved Chad's drumming on that one.

James Robert its not like I know for a fact he gets royalties but I assume he does since there's no way he doesn't if he's the drummer on the Bleach album. I think it was more the fact that Chad wanted to do songwriting along with Kurt and that really bugged him. But it would've been a huge mistake to have anyone but Kurt be the songwriter. what makes Nirvana Nirvana is the songwriting where Kurt was able to capture teenage sentiment so well. Alienation and angst. I think that's the real reason Kurt wanted Chad out. I do believe Chad should have gotten inducted into the rock n roll hall of fame though cuz he def belonged there. That was so fucking wrong that the RNRHOF denied him his dues. lets be real. Nirvana had 3 official albums and 1 unofficial mtv unplugged....and Chad played on 1, and Pat Smear played on 2. Chad and Pat Smear got jipped. Look at Guns n Roses. Everyone that was on the use your illusions albums got inducted and I don't even agree with that because those albums sucked ass. whatever, nevermind lol.

The whole Hall of Fame thing is more an industry dog and pony show much like the Academy Awards. It doesn't go out so much to talent but more to who has the most influence at the top.
Not sure about the royalties but I do know 'Bleach' was recorded with Sub Pop records who then sold the 'radio friendly unit shifters' to Geffen. Depends on what Chad's contract stated and whether he lawyer'd his way into royalties. It's a cut-throat business which Kurt came to totally loathe because he had to produce music approved by suits. Kurt was probably under enormous pressure to continue making more 'Neverminds'. Sometimes fame and fortune turns into a much worse nightmare than the safety of obscurity.

+Kevin Rachman i know a guy who says he met Chad while camping and he told him he makes 40 or 50 grand a year off royalties and lives off of that. Not that you should believe anything you read online, but this is what i was told.

Amazing to me how this band got so far on so few songs. For 3 years they went touring from 87 to 90 playing the same 10 songs over and over. I guess that`s the way to do it though, to spread the word. Must drive you nuts after a while though, which is why if you`re ever going to play in a band make sure the songs are good. I can`t even fathom how someone can take playing in a band like Coldplay. Playing "Viva la Vida" 9000 times, it must be like torture.

truth is we don't know how many songs they actually had in their repertoire before 89 when Bleach came out......but all in all they have had 4 albums from 89 to 92 so they stayed pretty busy releasing an album every year practically
