    Beyerdynamic has an industry standard reference headphone called the DT770 pro. These cans just blew me away, especially with their price point which was only $180!
    This week I'm reviewing them, alongside all the other professional monitoring headphones I currently possess. Despite a few downsides including pretty severe sibilance issues, these quickly became my GO TO closed back for working in the studio. Love it. Love you. Thanks for watching.

      I wonder if I push into them too much power because when I pass certain lvl of volume bass start to rattle on THX amp (very low freq) and on fostex amp/dac all freq start to shimmer like HP could not handle the power

      I disagree, the bass is louder. But it's good for you general sound imaging... I mean how your brain understands bass (and treble). I have 8 headphones along with the AudioTechnica... I use all sorts of stuff for my audio mixing, and I'm a DJ. These Beyerdynamic 250 ohms are definitely slightly tuned... Definitely! They are my favourite, don't get me wrong though...

    Hi boys, I'm just a fresh graduated sound engineer, I work with the DT 770 Pro 250 Ohms since 2 years now and it is real good product, very strong (compared to the Sennheiser HD25, which tend to break on the left ear, known problem), the frequency response is really flat, and it is really good for mixing, and sound taking on a field ! Comfortable, though it may feel heavy when you use it for hours, and make your ears feel hot (is it clear ?) pretty quickly.10/10 recommended ! Have a good day boys and Thanks Oliver for your work !

    • @akakerness6396
      @akakerness6396 Před 5 lety +2

      How hot? I tried them at my local Guitar Center and they were really comfortable and not heavy at all. I'm worry about the hot part that you mentioned (I tend to sweat a lot during the summer)Also, the ear pads on the Dt 990 pro are better than the 770.

    • @user-gh9iw1of2y
      @user-gh9iw1of2y Před 5 lety +5

      Frequency response is flat? Are you kidding me? It is NOT flat by any means.
      Very little headphones can produce flat response, or anything even close to flat response.

    Great review, very helpful and your description is accurate to how these sound. I bought these and a Schiit Modi/Magni combo to run them. Together with a good FLAC song, I see how audio experienced like this can make your eyes water. I think I want to cry realizing what I have been missing out on all these years using cheap gaming headsets for music.
    I wanted at least one closed back set and these looked good for the price point. Looking to get some Sennheiser 650s or something similar next. Slippery slope they say. Thanks!

  • @TheRecon4
    @TheRecon4 Před 4 lety +10

    As an Electrical Engineer I believe the reason why the higher impedance headphones tend to produce better sound is due to the fact that they are less susceptible to picking up noise from the environment which causes interference. You may have experienced a cheap pair of headphones before with poor shielding around its wires that leads to odd hums or pops if you leave the cable on top or near another electronic device that creates significant electromagnetic radiation. With higher impedance drivers it's easier to ensure that only the frequencies driven by your amp are getting to your ears and not other distortion form ambient sources of electromagnetic radiation. Edit: After a little research apparently the extra impedance is also a result of more turns of wire in the voice coils of the drivers which means that the drivers in the higher impedance models are actually more powerful.

    Hello Oliver, very insightful review. For vinyl record listening enjoyment, which cans would you suggest under $200 USD ? Sibilance is unfortunately common on vintage vinyl via mediocre cart's (IE. 2M Red), and thus I would prefer less analytical cans, but with decent kick, transparent mids, constrained fatiguing highs. Cheers !

    Hey Oliver, thanks for this, I have a question I am hoping you can answer. I recently bought the 770 Pro 250 ohms and I have a KA6 audio interface. The volume wasn't loud enough for me with this setup, so I bought a PreSonus HP4 amplifier, which sorted the volume issue out, but now I have lost the feature of direct monitoring (without latency) that the KA6 provides when recording through a mic into Ableton. What do you think is the solution for this? Is there an audio interface I can switch to that gives me both the amplifying + the direct monitoring feature in one piece of gear?

    Do you think that is sufficient for the 250 ohm dt770 or should I buy an additional headphone amplifier?

    • @OliverJHughes
      @OliverJHughes  Před 5 lety +2

      What up Lando!
      Here’s the deal, the pros and cons are pretty varied between those three - first of all, beyerdynamic isn’t Bluetooth, or noise cancelling, and doesn’t have a big low end. So consider that- those are probably not good on the go cans, but GREAT for listening at home or mixing.
      XM3s are the worlds best noise cancelling. Just phenomenal. Also, light and comfy. Don’t sound too great though.
      And of course the nuras are really heavy, feel odd, but sound just phenomenal. So damn good. Huge bass, etc...
      On the go? Travel? I’d go Sony
      At home with accurate sound? Beyerdynamic
      A tech forward unique experience with outstanding bass? For both on the go and home? Nura

    Hello. From previous watched videos (including yours lol!) I'm sold on the BeyerDynamic DT770 Headphones. I am a bit confused as to which is best for me overall. I don't wish to purchase two sets of headphones. I need one pair, for now, that will serve more than one purpose. I am a singer as well as a voice-over actress. My main desire for the headphones at this time is for voice over. But with some of my voice over opportunities, the character needs to be able to sing. Will the 250 ohms be ok if I don't have a mic amp? (I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THAT IS LOL!)- but I do have an interface that's been in the box for 3 years that I'm now having to learn how to use. Forgive me, I'm still in the learning stage of all of these technical terms lol! I will be recording from a very acoustically dead closet and on my MacBook Pro most likely thru Twisted Wave or adobe audition. Haven't decided yet. I Can't find a video where someone really explains - to make the 32.80-or 250 ohms decision when it comes to voice over work because most are referencing mixing etc. I want to know if the 250 with an interface work perfectly. In one video I watched the gentleman stated that he didn't need a mic amp & that some people (his colleagues) says otherwise & that it was a 50/50 opinion. But his studio was mostly used for music recording.
    I also went to your site on the audition audio presets but didn't understand whatthe prices were for. I'll go back later to explore the site to see if I missed something. • @OliverJHughes

      First of all, I looked up that player and the headphone output. It has a built in headphone amp (which is pretty standard) - doesn't convince me that it will drive the 250 ohm version. SO I did a little more looking and its output is rated at 18 mW/32 ohms (variable maximum). I didn't know how to interpret that so I went to google - and basically it's the wild west when it comes to measuring amp output because there are so many variables but the GIST of everything I found is that the 250ohm Beyerdynamics would need around 2.5mW of power to drive up to 100dB of signal. The output impedance notwithstanding, you're gonna be fine. I would go for the 250ohm.
