  • It's time to change out the photo black (PBK) PFI-1300 ink cartridge on my Canon ImagePROGRAF 44" wide format printer. I'm swapping in a 330ml tank in this easy procedure and talk about the overall cost of of ink. Look how small a 24"x36" print appears compared to the printer at the end of the video.

    Have the same printer and I was thinking buying a refillable pigment ink which seller recommends because it is less expensive but printer will show there is no ink because it cannot detect ink that is been injected. You just need to keep eye on a ink levels, so was wondering if you tried to do that, thanks

    Its hard to find any videos on this printer… appreciate your post! I have had it for 2 years and rarely use it :(. Im tryingnto figure out how to use it with illustrator to make decal stickers… any tips?

      Get a good rotary trimmer! Cutting tons of stickers is the worst part. I do a lot of sticker design in Photoshop because it can be easier, I just prepare it at a big enough resolution that it doesn't matter if it's raster or vector.

    HI, THANKS FOR THIS INFORMATIVE VIDEO! I AM CONSIDERING GETTING THIS PRINTER FOR MY WIFE WHO IS A DIGITAL ARTIST, SO THAT SHE WOULD NO LONGER NEED TO GO TO THE PRINT SHOP. I WAS WONDERING IF THIS MACHINE SITS UNUSED FOR A FEW WEEKS, AFTER YOU RUN THE NECESSARY CLEANING CYCLES, IS THERE ANY DANGER THAT THE PRINT HEAD GETS CLOGGED UP, OR ARE THERE ANY OTHER PROBLEMS THAT MIGHT ARISE, APART FROM WASTING INK?

    Thanks for the shared information. Could you please advise on the average ink cost per SQF (or sq inch) when printing a fully coloured hi-resolution artwork on canvas? I believe the printer can generate such reports.
    And does the cost vary if you print on paper, polyester canvas, linen canvas and banner vinyl?

    • @TheElusivePanda
      @TheElusivePanda  Před rokem +1

      I don't print in enough volume to have consistent ink cost analysis, but I can say that the majority of the cost is in the canvas. Wide 44" rolls of quality canvas like Breathing Color Crystalline are very expensive, and you can get a good rough estimate by dividing the roll cost per foot, then adding another 50% for other factors like ink, maintenance, and packaging.

    can anyone advise on how to print over sized media on this printer. Best way to split an image?

    • @TheElusivePanda
      @TheElusivePanda  Před 2 lety +1

      I occasionally print extremely large canvas images and split them into several images that hang right next to each other. For example, I just made a 4x9 foot image and split it into three 4x3 foot panels. It's much easier to frame and work with.

    how did you transport this thing? I am thinking of purchasing one but I have 3 steps into my house and it's not easy to get help. Think I have a chance of doing this myself somehow?

    • @TheElusivePanda
      @TheElusivePanda  Před 2 lety +1

      It was shipped on a pallet and delivered by truck to my house. I got a strong friend and the two of us lifted it onto the rolling stand (two very strong guys). You can roll it around very easily, but it has to remain level after setup. You will definitely need help.

    Hi, I have a question about the ink level. I have a pro 2100.
    From the printer's graph, it looks like i still have 75% of the cartridge, but it says that the ink is running low..
    How far can i get after the first alert?

    • @TheElusivePanda
      @TheElusivePanda  Před 2 lety +2

      That does seem unusual. On my Pro 4000 a lot of ink is stored in the print head and ink lines. It will continue to print after a tank is completely empty so you can change without interrupting service. I'm not sure about the Pro 2100, but if you're printing for personal use it will probably last a while. The best thing to do is keep at least 1 extra cartridge for each color on hand so you don't have to wait on shipping if it runs out.

  • @notme989

    How many full sized, full color prints can you get on full cartridges?

    • @TheElusivePanda
      @TheElusivePanda  Před 2 lety +1

      That's hard to answer because things like the colors in the photo, paper material, and the frequency of use have different effects on ink usage. If I had to guess I would says hundreds, because I replace cartridges months or even a year apart.

    • @TheElusivePanda
      @TheElusivePanda  Před 11 měsíci

      You might have already found an answer, but my doorways are about 31.5" wide at the narrowest point. The printer is a little over 28" deep.

    Hello,everytime I start the 4000S,it shows"wait until the system has been filled with ink".Is this normal?does it already cost some ink though I dont print anything?thanks for any idea.

    • @TheElusivePanda
      @TheElusivePanda  Před 2 lety +1

      Almost every time you start the printer it will do some cleaning, and occasionally it will run a maintenance cycle to prevent clogging. Pigment based printers are prone to clogged nozzles so unfortunately it has to waste ink to keep running properly. Make sure you print something at least once a week to keep it running well.

    • @jacobzjm
      @jacobzjm Před 2 lety +1

      @@TheElusivePanda thank you so much for the explaination.so is it meaningful to keep the machine always on to reduce the frequency of self cleaning/ink filling? another question,if I have in one month 50 big foto to print,ist it better that i print all them at one time than print them in 5 days (10pc/each day)?

    • @TheElusivePanda
      @TheElusivePanda  Před 2 lety

      @@jacobzjm I always leave my printer on so it can run self maintenance cycles. It's much more expensive to replace a bad print head than let it use some ink on cleaning. It won't matter if you print in 1 day or over 5 days but the printer will probably run a short cleaning cycle because of the number of prints.

  • @jeromeberry761
    @jeromeberry761 Před rokem +1

    How many printer do you normally get from a cycle of ink?

    • @TheElusivePanda
      @TheElusivePanda  Před rokem

      It depends on the size and the colors in the image. I don't print as much as a print shop, so my ink cartridges sometimes last more than a year.

  • @jacobzjm

    can this machine print pictures on material like canvas polyester?thanks a lot.

    • @TheElusivePanda
      @TheElusivePanda  Před 2 lety +1

      It will print on any roll material that has an inkjet printable layer. I've done paper, polyester canvas, linen canvas, sticker vinyl, and banner vinyl, and I know there are other materials available like silk, fabric, and exotic types of paper.

    HI Im highly thinking about investing in a 2100 - 24inch to start a business but got turned off because of the cost of in do you think its worth it after spending that amount on ink?? are you getting your (ROI) Return on investment?

    • @TheElusivePanda
      @TheElusivePanda  Před 3 lety +1

      My printer has paid for itself, but only through corporate work. I also print so much for myself that it would have cost more to order from a shop. If you're printing to sell your own work, print for other photographers, or primarily shoot for families and individuals then a smaller cut sheet printer like a Pro-1000 is a much better investment. Don't forget about the paper, up to $400 a roll, and other costs like replacing your print head $1100. That one hurt. It's like having a huge diesel work truck; huge cost of operation but the only tool for certain jobs.

    There are excellent 3rd party inks that will cost you half of that of canon inks.

    • @TheElusivePanda
      @TheElusivePanda  Před 2 lety +4

      On this printer I prefer to use OEM ink. I've used 3rd party inks and papers with my Pro-100 and had fading and color matching issues, so from a business perspective it's a small cost to ensure quality.
