Here's my last promo link of the ski season, if you're thinking about buying an X3 this link will be live for a limited time for 11% off the X3, a free snow bundle & an invisible selfie stick. store.insta360.com/product/x3?INRW52O&KOL&Rise&Alpine&Q1X3Dedicated Thank you for all of the support!
Thanks for doing this. I asked if you could possibly do this a couple of months ago, you responded saying you were going to look into it. It's awesome to see you did in fact look into it. My speed record is 80 kmh, but that's on east coast us mountain. Not steep enough to get to 100. If I might recommend a video idea, you and the boys should do a competition for 1 leg skiing on your non dominant leg. God Bless you.
Seeing these stats for the gnarliest runs that you take would help viewers understand the landscape better since the camera always appears to make it seem less steep than it actually is.
This is the second season I’m following the channel and I got to say that the improvement in quality both editing and tech is astonishing. Really love seeing how you’re progressing man. I’m proud of you man. The gps tracker looks amazing and would love to see it in future videos!
Hey Ross! I really appreciate hearing that brother. It's hard to know if things are actually improving when I'm focusing so much on learning, streamlining my process and pushing out content consistently. Always appreciate and am super open to all the positive and negative/constructive feedback. It's been a wild ride trying to pay rent/eat with video making over the winter :).
I've been using the Insta remote for a couple years now... I'm a competitive paddler (OC1) and the remote is great for tracking speed while surfing ocean waves and distance covered. I use this in combination with my Garmin watch and both give you great information to assist with training. I recently took up skiing and of course it has exceptional utility here too, as you have shown here (awesome footage it is too). I was recently up in Sun Peaks, and its fun to see the data on how far you've travelled, the course you're on and of course how fast you're going. I think your point here though is very important, because with speed it can become a bit of an obsession (I'm as guilty as anyone else), and sacrificing control and regard for your safety and others on the run as well. So that's the only caveat I would have, is simply to agree with you that maintaining form, control and safety should always come first - not breaking speed records! As far as your videos go, I am always interested to see your tracked courses through the trees and how quickly you're moving down what look to me like double blacks through those tree runs... the remote is a great little addition to your video kit and I look forward to seeing how you use it - cheers mate!
Glad to hear you like the remote still as a long term user. Super sick you're a competitive paddler, riding ocean waves seems super fun! I'm equally excited to see how fast I hum through the trees, but I'm going to have to wait for some softer conditions LOL. The day I filmed this could not have been icier!
Please add this look to your next runs! Love the feel of it being like a dashboard from a sci-fi film combined with ski runs makes them enjoyable and aesthetically fun to watch!
Great video. Used to love Alpine replay (which then became trace snow) for the stats but sadly it closed down. It kept all the boys honest about where they went and what they did. 😂
Cool showcase of the gps features! Weird how the 85km/h clip looks similar to the 65km/h clips. I have a garmin watch that tracks all the stats you would think and am always skeptical of the speed. Always take it all with a grain of salt! Would be cool to see how accurate it is compared to a radar gun. I’m sure the Whistler race team has one you could use. 🙌🏼
I think cameras with all their stabilization and POV really struggle to show variation in speed and pitch. Would be a blast to get a radar gun out and actually try and top out speed!
That's a mighty fine setup there, very clear and very stable with lots of angles. I like all those stats especially speed slope and elevation but sometimes certain runs and or views just need to be appreciated as they are in all their glory too. I bet it would be interesting to know how many g's you're pulling in a nice GS style carve on a good groomer, not that you have carving skis mind you but still interesting I think. For me anything POV that can show or indicate slope and speed especially thru trees bumps or deep pow is gold. I like getting those butterflies like you do when standing at the top of a drop in point/cornice/that crazy freaking scary rope climb at Kicking Horse haha. Man that's scary as chit and when a viewer can get a sense of it it's almost as good as being there for some of us stuck in the flat lands with no snow and no views it sucks. Some call it paradise here but I think they're crazy as I'd much rather be skiing and in the mountains. Maybe they're right, I'm just weird. F them I'm going skiing! Hahaha
The speed /slope and elevation is cool. The rest is feel like doesn’t fully apply to skiing or is just clutters the screen but it would be cool to always have the elevation come on when you go to these different mountains
Less is more. I'm going to speak for most of us that watch you regularly, we are here for you, your stoke(attitude) and your adventure. Small in the corner for slope angle and all videos with skiing to show how crazy your skiing is. In trees and pow, maybe elevation to show the quality of snow and how high you have to go(maybe only sometimes). speed sometimes on the groomers would be cool, again sometimes. With all of them at the same times, it looks somewhere between a video game and an website with too many ads. maybe not that bad, but i would rather focus on your skiing and your adventure.
Thanks for the input and for the kind words. I totally agree, I prefer the screen natural as well! Maybe I'll tack it one for some steep ridges or goofy speed/racing portions of videos
🤔 This discount is relevant to my interests. Been thinking about an X3 for a while. Just seems to be easier and more set-and-forget than my GoPro because you don't actually have to point the X3 at anything specific and you still get the shot. I know the X4 must be coming soon, but I think POV cameras are starting to reach the point of diminishing returns, like smart phones did 5 or 6 years ago. Drones, with the DJI Mini3 Pro and Mini4 Pro are basically there too, IMHO. The cameras are so good now, that improvements are going to be somewhat smaller and incremental, although I'm happy to be proven wrong.
The X3 was a big game changer for me. Always fun watching old videos of mine with just a go pro and seeing how much cooler everything is with the X3. Traditional GoPro is also absolutely useless for social media videos. I agree - the point of diminishing returns is coming for 360 cameras. Go Pro as a company has been dying for a long time, ever since they made stabilization in the hero 8, nothing has really changed. I do appreciate how insta360 is constantly trying to iterate cameras/features/mounts regardless of how impractical they might be to most users. The X3 has an edge over the X2 because you can film in 5.4k in 360. When you export 360 footage it always downgrades the quality so 5.4k will look just a bit closer to something in 4k. Filming in 4k will look like 1080p when exported. The X4 might be on its way, but I do agree, for most users, the X2 & X3 much like most iphones are already great options and going with whatever is most affordable is probably the play. I'd be happy to be proven wrong too, better POV filming setups (especially ones that don't hinder skiing experience) are always welcome!
I'm gonna have to grab one of these cams and the wristband unless there is a watch app. My go pro 8 can't handle the cold. Got the Mountain Collective Pass for next season. I def want to record .
Yo bro I think u got a copycat somewhere on YT, idk his username but his profile picture is Greg from diary of a whimpy kid, specifically he posted your (80 new cm of snow at whistler) video and in the comments he was pretending to be u. He was not trying to impersonate u he was just pretending to be the person/u in the video. Just a heads up idk if it's u on an alt. But I just wanted to let u know.
That's super weird! Absolutely is not me. This is the only channel I post on. Please let me know if anyone finds this account again and I'll ask him to take it down.
Jesus well I guess you know when you're doing good when you start getting people stealing your content. Let's take this as a sign of the success, personally I would recommend doing a copyright hit. Don't take down his videos just make sure you're getting the profit from it bro. Also you don't want him to start making videos and do a reverse copyright claim on you some jerks do that
Great video. Used to love Alpine replay (which then became trace snow) for the stats but sadly it closed down. It kept all the boys honest about where they went and what they did. 😂
Sick content! Nice to see elevation, distance and speed for when youre hitting fast groomers. Just slope for when you're doing steeps! Other than that keep it all natural.
WOW , what a great camera, the quality of the video is awesome...think it will get you a speeding ticket playing around looking for more speed...the elevation ,distance , slope angle , speed is about all you need for your video ,that keeps the screen cleaner so we can watch your great style ....great up grade
Thanks for the input! The camera gets such crispy footage on blue sky days. I agree that less is more on the screen, but fun to add in on the right spots!
You need the right tools to make great content. They help creators learn new video skills to create high-guality and captivating videos for your content. The posts from Revelstoke and Kicking Horse show that all the different angles makes the viewer feel like they're part of the action !
Nice vid bro! Thats sweet as. Bloody good review - on another note, drop some “Ghost” in the sauce and LIGHT THE AFTERRRRR BURNNNNN-ERRR!!! Stay spicey mate.
fastest ive hit on my garmin watch was 90km/h on rhapsody bowl when it was fresh groomed. slowed right down when i started seeing small stumps sticking out of the snom
I like to see the numbers for some weird reason. My Garmin watch tracks it all for me. Top speed this season was 44.9mph (idk what that is in Canadian) the depressing part is the lift time!
Idk how accurate the slope is though how would it measure that from Ur wrist unless your Constantly matching the angle Of the slope but everything else is pretty cool in some situations but I think less is more in this case
slope for me is the coolest. I'm curious to know how it figures that. I'm always trying to figure out how steep stuff youtubers are skiing actually are. Like you said below, the camera doesn't show steep at all.
Thanks for the input! Once a camera company can figure out how an action camera can show slope angle, that will be crazy. A drone does the best job at that though. It's all about perspective,
Hey dude you mentioned suggestions during this video. Have you ever considered doing the Sudan courier race very few people cover it and I think it'd be pretty cool to show
Totally! Slopes works great for checking stats. The reason this is handy is for filming. It puts the speed on screen if you're filming video automatically, It would be a near impossible amount of work to setup a live animation like this in after affects!
That works for tracking speed but I don't think they have it setup to put the stats on the screen with the footage automatically yet. I imagine it is something they are working on in the future.
I really like the speed and slope add ons. I think for the steeper or faster runs, you might want to consider adding those to the screen. Great vid as always!

Amazing video. Absolutely agree with your “stay in control” “no straight line” talk!
Seeing these stats for the gnarliest runs that you take would help viewers understand the landscape better since the camera always appears to make it seem less steep than it actually is.
Good idea! POV cameras never show slope angle. The only way to experience how scary terrain is by standing on top of it in real life!

Slick - glad you like the addition!

LOL - hard to keep the boys honest, especially when the beers and stories start flowing at the end of the day
Adding the slope grade or angle would be sweet for some of those gnarlier ones!
100% thanks for the input Josiah!

I had a gps clock me at over 180 kph this season on my board 😂. Def take these stats with heavy grains of salt
As a new subscriber and being olderthandirt, just let me say, I thoroughly enjoyed your content. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing. ❤❤

it's always a good day when he posts.
The speed /slope and elevation is cool. The rest is feel like doesn’t fully apply to skiing or is just clutters the screen but it would be cool to always have the elevation come on when you go to these different mountains

Go through your history and check ?
@3:29 looks great. Sometimes I can’t film while skiing cuz I need both of hands on the poles. But I think this and body mount can solve my problems.
Just run the head mount - That's my favourite
Another great video just like always
Thanks!
Thanks!
I got 110km/h after a couple goes at recording speed. You can definitely beat that!
Sweeet!
Sick content! Nice to see elevation, distance and speed for when youre hitting fast groomers. Just slope for when you're doing steeps! Other than that keep it all natural.
Sweet! Thanks for the input. Slope would be sick for steep runs. The question is really going to be how accurate it is? Will be fun to test some more!

I really want to know that too!
please add the ski stats to videos, i love how fast you ski

School maam always good for a hoon.
Go Pro used to do all that too the same way, until their desktop app stopped showing it at the 8 model.
School markm is the best way to ski out!
Go Pro has disappointed me on so many levels the last few years.
Gopro can export your gps telemetry data. no extra tool needed...
Does it put all the stats on the screen in real time when you're editing?

Might need a 360. Would love to see this off piste to compare technique.
360 cams are the best!
Btw the normal GoPro app has the tracker as well
And it can put it on the screen in after editing?

Hey dude you mentioned suggestions during this video.
Have you ever considered doing the Sudan courier race very few people cover it and I think it'd be pretty cool to show
I'll see if I can swing it. That would be a blast to document.
I’ve used the slopes ap on my phone does the same thing for free
Totally! Slopes works great for checking stats. The reason this is handy is for filming. It puts the speed on screen if you're filming video automatically, It would be a near impossible amount of work to setup a live animation like this in after affects!
That watch band is pretty funny!!
Also I think those stats would be good on otherwise un-entertaining runs. Like groomers!
Don't press the RED BUTTON!
Awesome video. Speed, elevation and route would be best. Too many metrics will take away from the rest of your video.
Love your channel!
Sweet! I agree and appreciate the feedback. Just the odd bit of speed, elevation and route when it makes sense seems like the best option.
Yeah, elevation and slope angle would be cool on Double Black runs , and Speed to show how much faster than Rob you are Skiing.😂.
LOL - the speed compared to Rob measurement hahaha
Very Euro of you...
So Euro... Time to go back to Pow Skiing hahaa
Can't you find fastest speed and other ultimate stats in an overall stats tab - for particular run, date, all time?
There is an overall stats tab on the app?
@@riseandalpine If there isn't there should be!
This looks like a video game HUD lol
so video game like eh
looks awesome but looks like it would get in the way
Thanks for the feedback. I'm totally a fan of the regular natural look as well. It would have to be for some pretty isolated purposes
I’ve always wondered how fast you ski through the trees. Maybe use it then?
I'm keen to know that as well. We'll have to wait for some fresh snow first. It was an ice cookie death trap when I filmed this video!
Looking forward to seeing the video. Hopefully this year.
what about the gps of your phone?
That works for tracking speed but I don't think they have it setup to put the stats on the screen with the footage automatically yet. I imagine it is something they are working on in the future.
Id like to see it in the trees.
Oh heck ya. Me too!
what boots and skis are used in this video?
Nordice Strider 130 Boots and Nordica Enforcer 89 Skis
@@riseandalpine thanks brotger
What mountain is that?
Blackcomb
first
ski tracks is free
Totally! It's more about putting the live stats on the video screen though. Doing that kind of manual animation would take forever
