    Im an HVAC technician, and honestly i would 100% recommend mini split systems. The ONLY downside to them is that they suck at heating,, so if where you live temperatures often drop, this is probably not the best option for you. But when it comes to cooling, these suckers will cool down your room in no time and are SUPER energy efficient! :)

    I have a ~1500 sq ft, 2 story home. Downstairs is the living room on one whole side and a kitchen and a laundry/ utility room on the other half. Upstairs is 3 beds and a bath. What would be a good setup? 4 zones? 2 down and 2 up? One in each room seems like overkill. Thanks.

    • @CooperandHunterusa
      @CooperandHunterusa  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Daniel, there are many variables which should be taken into account when deciding on the best mini split set up for your home. Square footage of each space, ceiling heights, number of windows and other heat sources, insulation, etc. should all be taken into account. If you think 4 indoor heads would be too much, you could always consider a slim ducted mini split, which could direct airflow to a few smaller spaces (great choice for laundry rooms, kitchens, hallways, etc.). We'd recommend asking your C&H distributor/seller for advice on choosing the right system for you.

    Wow glad I came across this video... Living in Asia most of our homes use mini split ac's but are of far bigger capacity like a single room of 150 sqft needs a dedicated 18000 btu unit. I was planning on getting central ac for my home but now I know even in west now ductless is getting more popular and it's overall better and more efficient!

    Hi, I've seen I can buy a multi-zone, say with 3 zones, and on the outside unit I can see the 3-sets of connectors for each indoor unit. In the video you said the outside unit was chosen as 36k BTU for 'future expansion, in case another zone needed to be added later'. Of course the indoor unit just gets installed where needed, but what about the piping?? Are you saying that a 4th set of connectors can be 'added' in-situ to the outdoor unit? Thanks.

    • @CooperandHunterusa
      @CooperandHunterusa  Před 3 lety

      If you're looking into a 3 zone condenser, for example, you can install 2 indoor units and the 24K outdoor unit, leaving the other line open for a later addition. So you don't even need to purchase or mount the third unit until you're ready to install it. You'll only need the 3rd set of copper lines at that time. The only condition is that, for a multi zone condenser, at least 66% percent of its capacity needs to be connected to indoor units at any given time.

    • @CooperandHunterusa
      @CooperandHunterusa  Před 4 lety +2

      Hi Bob! Great question! Mini split systems are MUCH more affordable than centralized air conditioning systems. Not only do they cost less to install, but they are also much cheaper to maintain.
      Furthermore, as multi zone systems allow you to cool or heat occupied spaces without running the air through the entire house, they save a ton on energy expenses as well! :)
      Are you thinking of making the switch?

    • @bobkeeler5964
      @bobkeeler5964 Před 4 lety +6

      @@CooperandHunterusa I'm going to be building a new house this year and I like the mini split system because I could control the temperature in each room of my house . I also despise ducted HVAC systems because they are so dirty and inefficient. I have had the traditional HVAC ducted system in every house I've lived in and I am sick of them. When an air exchange is placed in the attic of a house it is working in an unbelievably hot environment in the summer. In the summer, when the HVAC cycles back on, it first has to empty out all of the HOT air in the duct system before the cool conditioned air begins cooling the house. Also, I;ve rarely seen a duct system that was installed correctly with no connection leaks, etc.. not to mention the poor insulation on ducts. I also don't like the idea of a condensation drain pan being overhead, that has the potential of leaking when the condensate lines clogs (notice I said WHEN, not IF). SO thats good news to hear that the mini split system should be the same or less cost when compared to a traditional ducted HVAC system. I'm going for it!!

      @@bobkeeler5964 You're absolutely right about central A/C systems. If you've already been doing some digging, you've probably noticed that ductless A/C has always been the popular solution in Europe. • @CooperandHunterusa
      @CooperandHunterusa  Před 3 lety

      Hi Rodney! That's a great question. If you set multiple zones to AUTO you risk a mode conflict. For example, if 4 zones are running to cool and one switches to start heating, it's very likely that all of the units will stop functioning until they are reset to work in the same "mode" (to heat OR to cool). Heating and cooling simultaneously is not an option since the zones are all connected to a singular condenser which can only operate for one of those functions at a time.
