  • Can a pile of scrap Ford OHC Pinto parts provide what is needed to build up a running engine for minimum cost?
I have uses for a running engine however I quite fancy the challenge of a budget build.... How cheap can we go?

Did a porting job on the head of Pinto engine of my kit car engine 20yr ago. Matched the head's exhaust ports to the gasket and the gasket to the manifold. Same for the intake manifold. Tapered the oil drain holes in the head to allow quicker drainage. Bored out slightly the oil spray bar at the head to allow more flow. High pressure oil pump and an oil cooler take off. Larger bore oil pick up pipe. Took 25mm off the depth of the sump and added a box section to the front, to bring back up the oil capacity, as well as a flap baffle to limit oil starvation on fast starts. Plus lots of other little nips n tuck jobs. Never got to run it on a dyno. But it felt quick. And for a 2lt with twin webers and a medium lift camshaft the car was quick enough to give most other cars a sprint

An old flat screwdriver with a relatively sharpened head works best for removing freeze plugs mate. Saves from losing them in the block.

Great vid , remember in the 80s trying to buy a 2nd hand 2L pinto from the local scrap yard, eventually after removing and returning 4 engines no5 was the one 🙏🇬🇧🤠🤟 a fast engine when 120mph was quick 🤠🇬🇧🤟🪓

Relaxing view into the type of engine I like. Keep away from anything built this century.

Dang that sounds mean and bubbley at same time. I bet that engine could use some low boost,. Problem work really well now that it's flowing good

🤣 WHY ?? it was always a Low Grade.. Low quality Econo motor fitted to a Car ...sold on despite proof that it was a n Explosion risk !
Better off Dicking about with an Old Briggs 'N Stratton.

I think you have got your engines mixed up.... This is the European engine, fitted to the Cortina, Capri, Granada and Escort , know as the single overhead cam engine, sOHC , Us Brits call it a Pinto engine however it had nothing to do with the Ford Pinto car in the USA. The engine originally came in 1.6 and 2 litre capacity, in 1985 the block was improved with thicker cylinder walls and provision for an oil return to the block for use by Cosworth to create the YB engine for the Sierra Cosworth. As for why..... just a little something to fill the time before a Bristol Hercules engine arrives at my workshop next month.... For those who don't know thats a supercharged 37.8 litre 14 cylinder radial engine!
