Nothing better than watching you overland with your family after a stressful day at work. You've perfected not only the art of narrating, choice of music, but these journeys you take have breathtaking views. Great job! Better than Xanax👍
So glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the detailed feedback! We will keep the videos coming.
This is what kids need, not video games/ movies etc , great video, something I would love to do in future
+Alex Kostenyuk Thanks! Hope to see you out there soon!
out of all the over-landing vids, you guys make the best by far hands down. and ive seen alot of them.good job keeping making content.
also i love that there is no fake drama, like deadlines and whatnot, I've never understood all these youtubers that make fake deadlines or even go camping and wheelin with deadlines, any thanks for putting this video up.
luke
+Luke Ward Thanks for the kind words, man! We try to keep it simple and real.
Deadlines takes the freedom and fun away. Totally agree with you.
Being new to overlanding, these videos have been not only eye opening, but has created multiple destinations for my wife and I. Thanks Kevin!!
+Tim Weimar Good to hear! Thanks for watching!
Lifestyle Overland. Hi Kevin, my wife and I are going through Borrego Springs in April on our way to southern cali. Looking to camp in the park for one night and wondering if you had any recommendations. Thanks Kevin!!
So awesome that you used Ryan Bingham music at the beginning of the video. You must have foreseen his future success.
Great videos. Like that you include info and narration about the places you go and it's not just a music video of the drive.
+Drew Swanson Thanks!
Really great job on this, thoroughly enjoyed it
Jason
Thanks, Jason! Glad you liked it!

Lifestyle Overland I went with the Toyota Tacoma. After watching some videos I'm kind of wishing I'd got the 4 Runner instead just for more room, but it does get us where we are going.
Another fantastic installment in a favorite Overlanding web series!! Can't wait for more!! You have a beautiful family and are blessed that they are all so supportive!!
Tim Gillespie Thanks so much for the support, Tim! Means the world to us!

WOW again a great example of overlanding. You have a great ability to tell a story in your scenes. Thank you for sharing and really makes me want to take my granddaughter on my adventures this summer LOL
Thanks so much +Maurice Austin! We will keep them coming!
Hey guys!
Wow, you brought back memories on this one!
I went over Medano (the locals pronounce it "Mad'n all) Memorial Day weekend 1991.
Actually bought the 1972 Wagoneer I have now, in Gardener, CO, about 6 years ago.
I've spent most of my adult life in CO, NM, West Texas, and AZ.
Nice to see other folks enjoying the area as much as I do!
Thank you for posting; especially the information on your blog. I never off road w/o my trusty floor hand bicycle pump in case compressor dies, which it has. Keep safe.
I love watching your videos. I'm planning a trip to the Rocky Mountains in two years. Thanks for taking the time and effort to put this together.
Mikel Turner Glad you liked it!

Loved the video... I recently drove to texas and on the way back I got a chance to do part of the trail from Santa Fe to the desert dunes.. beautiful trail. The dunes were amazing!! Thank you for charting the trail on Gaia. I hope to go back again. My lady and 10 month old son loved it. 4 cylinder 2017 Tacoma 2wd on ko2s ... Challenging and scary at times but hella fun.

Awesome video! Would love to travel out west someday and get to experience the beautiful landscape.
backwoodsriders Thanks! The west is truly an amazing playground. Everyone needs to come see it at some point!
Both of these are wonderful! The kids and I are mapping an overland adventure to Bears Ears, the new national monument in April.

One day brother !
fantastic video!
+Charles Whiteman Thanks!
Loved it
+Eric Henderson Thanks!
That's awesome! Great videos awesome family bonding time! I bought a 16' 4Runner a few months ago and didn't know what 'overlanding' was until I seen this. I've already upgraded the suspension wheels and tires for off road use. But I love camping, may throw a roof rack on for a ground tent and gear and do this on the weekends. Your rig is ideal for longer trips, gorgeous set up!!
I've noticed a lot of jeeps and some 'overland' set ups are all for looks. Some people do all that upgrading and it never see's a journey like the one you went on.
But you documented the trip beautifully, kind of inspired me to take a similar trip and document it with my daughter. I have a Nikon dslr but not nearly that good at editing videos. Also love the tunes you put on, south side of heaven is an awesome song!
bassinassasin90 Wow, thanks so much for the comments! Love inspiring folks to get out and explore!
Hope you love your new 4Runner as much as we love ours!
bassinassasin90 Hey what suspension and tires did you go with on your '16?
Lifestyle Overland went with a readylift due to cost, 3in front 2in rear. Blistein 5100 shocks. Still running stock tires being it's winter here in Illinois. Xd rims 17''. Will be putting on some Mud terrains for spring. Not sure which ones. It's all blacked out badging, paint, wheels. Still want to tint windows. Definitely love the 4Runner world. It's just an sr5 but sits higher than a trd pro now and about $17k cheaper after the deal I got.
I've taken it down to Tennessee and neighboring states but really want to go west. Utah, Colorado...
Best of luck, I'll stay tuned in! I may have some videos coming up soon
Man this has to be my favorite video you've made so far. How inspiring and beautiful. You got some great shots and having a new camera came in handy huh?
I hope you guys enjoy your holidays. Thanks for this awesome video.
Bryan Cortez Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it! We are still learning the new gear but it's already making a difference in quality.
awesome
Thanks!
Nice video with an inspiring message! Looks like some great family time, also helps me convince my wife to give it a try! ;) haha
+Jonathan Ramsey Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it! Good luck with the wife, she can contact my wife with any questions or concerns ;)
Not sure If told you... I love your videos! Great Job!
+Overland Generation Thanks so much, guys! Really appreciate it!
Great videos
Emeka Ossai Thanks so much!
Thank you for this most beautiful video, wish i could do it also. Thanks again
kink5291 You're welcome! Glad you liked it!
Very nice video! I had an FJ Cruiser I started building for an overland rig, but just recently got a Lexus Gx470 and started the build all over again haha nice looking setup you have there!
Awesome! We have considered a 200 series or GX470 to replace our GMC Sierra... such a great platform.
Yes they are a great base to build on!
Good music!
Mississippi Leg Hound Thanks! We love our trail tunes!
Another enjoyable video. You had me fooled. I totally thought you knew what you were doing. HA HA
My wife and I are making a video series to document our overland travel threw Mexico and Central America and we are learning as we go too. But I got to admit your cinematography and narration are way smoother. Thanks for the inspiration on the trail and the editing bay.
+The Traveling Together Journal Thanks so much! Looking forward to following your overland journey!
Not that I'm near good enough to be giving advice... but the video production gets better with time and practice!
You are an incredible videographer
+Matt McLean Thanks so much! Totally an amateur but comments like yours help us know we're on the right track!
What are you using to edit your videos? Really like your intro graphic and text transfers!
We use Adobe Premiere Pro CC and AfterEffects. The title transfers were free from Cinecom.net
great job guys nice Video
Thanks for watching!
Awesome job guys! Looks like you are from NM as well! My wife and I are from southern NM where we have mostly explored in my late 4Runner. We have since moved up north and recently added a new rig to the family that we hope to explore around with (Titan XD Pro-4X). We are very interested in taking this route up to CO after watching your videos! I’ll look for you on the trail! Keep up the great content 👍🏼
Awesome Turtle trailor
Great video
+Tom O Connor Thanks!

Sir,
Questions:
1. For the type of terrain of your off-road travels, what do you pressure down your tires to?
2. Which roof rack did you decide to go with? Rationale?
Comment: Excellent videos and incredible travel adventures!
P. Antonio Casas
+P. Antonio Casas, Ph.D. Thanks for the comments! Every road calls for a little different pressure but we generally run 16 to 20 PSI.
We went with the Gobi Rack for the top quality product.
I'm starting to plan my first overlanding trip to Colorado for this next July. One of the places i had on the list is the specific road next to the sand dunes that you guys took. This will be as far south as we're going to go, but it looks like it will be very worth it. Great videos, keep it up.
Awesome! We love Medano Pass!
Glad you liked the videos, we will stay after it!
Great video. Keep watching this and enjoying every bit of it. Suggestion: Try using a Goodyear Wrangler MT/R with sidewall made out of Kevlar. Great off-road tires but not so good on gas highways (I think lol). Using it on my Toyota FJ Cruiser and loving it. Btw love your 4Runner and the set up. Getting it for my wife...
Safe journey!!!
JULIUS K Thanks for the suggestion! Believe it or not, that tire is still going strong. I know a lot of folks who run the Kevlars and love them. You're right about the fuel milage too!
Really love your videos. Gives me alot of inspiration. Currently working on my own trailer that's gonna be sort of the shape as the one you have. How is it cooking in the back if it's raining? I was planning on putting an awning over the rear of it and one on the side.
+martin totland Thanks for watching! Cooking is great with our Oz Tent Foxwing awning deployed. Good luck with your trailer build!
Cool story, bro
Brett Musgrove Right on! Thanks!
NIce , very nice. Thank you for sharing.
Did you re gear with the bigger tires and the additional weight ??
virgil lupu No we haven't re-geared yet. Maybe one day when we go with a larger tire we might make the swap. It tows great now with the current setup, though the smaller 275s certainly help with that.
This looks like so much fun! What made you decide to start doing these kinds of trips?
Really nicely done. Your travels give me hope for my journeys. If there were two thumbs up available, you'd have them. 👍👍👍
Bill Sprague Thanks! It's so exciting to hear when we inspire folks! The main thing is to just go! Start small and build from there!
Great video! I live in Española, NM. 25 mins north of Santa fe. I thought it would've been cool to see footage of you guys driving from sf to angel fire because you'd most definitely pass my town. Oh well, next time.
Rafael Penalosa Awesome! We had been all over that area a few months before, just wish we had the camera back then. Certainly plan on returning for another run though!
awesome job. just subscribed as well. what kind of cameras did you use? beautiful footage and appreciate the history facts as well. thanks for sharing your family experience your daughter is adorable.
+toya1914 Thanks for watching and subscribing! We primarily shoot with a Canon XA30.
Awesome video tho I liked.
Awesome video!!! If been following you guys on Instagram for a wile now I'm also in Colorado:)
GreenApples_K Glad you liked it! Thanks for following us! What part of CO are you in?
Lifestyle Overland I'm in canon city kinda between cripple creak and salida :)
great channel! what roof top tent is that? Thanks for the great vids
+Rob McKay Thanks! That's a CVT Mt. Denali but we recently switched to a 23 Zero Sydney. Same size tent, just a bit better quality.
Kevin,
Thanks for the reply. My 2003 4th gen is about to go to a new owner and I
plan to buy a 2016 or 2017 Trail in the next few weeks. I really like the
stance on your rig and I would like to know what suspension setup you are
running. I also plan to install a winch and rear tire carrier so I do not
want to do this twice.
Thanks again
+Pete Bova We went with the Icon Vehicle Dynamics Stage 2 kit. It allows adjustability in the front so you can account for new weight as it is added. You have 2 options for the rear springs, a 2" coil or a 3". If you plan on running a lot of weight then go with the 3".
We had to upgrade to OME super heavy "899's" due to a lot of extra weight and a new 250 lb SSO rear bumper that should arrive any day now. It will leave us with a bit of a rake, but level out when the Turtleback Trailer is hooked up.
Where did you find your winch mount bumper? I like the look of it being integrated into the stock bumper. Also what wheels are you running?
The Rig looks great.
+Pete Bova You can get one from Southern Style Off Road (www.southernstyleoffroad.com)
Awesome quality and great customer service!
The wheels are Stealth Custom Series "Stealth 6's" and can be ordered here: www.stealthcustomseries.com
They sell out fast so you may have to get on a waiting list.
Glad you like our rig!
Nice video very thorough, I got a question about the rig, are you on 4wd HI most of the time or only as needed?
+Michael Fernandez A lot of 2WH with occasional 4WH and 4WL depending on terrain.
what lift kit are you running on this runner and why did you pick it over the others? I just bought a silver 4runner trail and am thinking of putting on almost that same bumper by SSO!
+Luke Ward We went with Icon Stage 2 because 1) Quality 2) They can be rebuilt 3) Front Adjustability 4) Customer Support
Thanks! Glad you like the bumper! SSO makes great stuff!
can we get a run down on any mods done to your 4runner? wheels/tires/lift etc? love the vids!!!
+steve nelson Thanks for watching! Here's a run-down of our rig build: overlandbound.com/forums/threads/2014-4runner-te-momma-bear-build.59/#post-673
Video in the works! (Just one more mod to install first!)
When I travel to the Rocky Mountains I'll be pulling a 7.5 x 17' cargo trailer behind me. Your trailer is much shorter than mine and more rugged. But I think it would be interesting to take the same road out of the sand dunes up through the mountains. Do you think a 7.5 x 17 cargo trailer could make any turns or maneuvers on that route?
Mikel Turner It is a very narrow trail in places with some tight corners, especially on the east side during the descent... we wouldn't recommend a trailer of that length on Medano Pass trail.
I would unhitch the trailer at the visitor center, run up the pass and back, then hit the highway.
Amazing! I plan on taking my family on this segment this summer! Do you have a build page of your rig?
+Jesse You can find our build on Overland Bound.com forums. Just search for "Momma Bear Build" We hope to release a build video soon too!
+Lifestyle Overland Oh and you can find all the trail data we have released at www.enchantedrockiestrail.com Just finished up the New Mexico portion and hope to finish the Colorado side very soon.
thanks for the interest! Let us know if we can help plan your trip in any way.
I'm quite familiar with the new mexico are you started in. Do you have a route mapped?
Chris Holloway We are sharing the GPS at www.enchantedrockiestrail.com as we get time to process it.
Enjoyed part 1 & II videos. I'll contact you as I would like to see the routes.
jediwebdude Glad you liked them! More trail info is available at www.enchantedrockiestrail.com
Hope to finish up the GPS data by the end of February.
Great videos, looking forward to them as they come.
As a new CVT owner I'm curious about your disappointments with yours. Was yours full of aluminum shavings from them not cleaning out after drilling the holes in the floor? Did you have condensation issues on the floor? Did you buy the mat to go under the foam? Does rain ever seep in? You've certainly seen more rain than I may ever. So far I'm at about 12 minutes for setup as well as takedown now that I've figured out a few tricks, but it's nice to leave the sleeping gear inside between spots.
+Justin Brill So sorry we missed your comment! It was stuck in the spam filter for some reason.
Anyhow, we really loved the functionality of the CVT and our family enjoyed our time in it. However there were some issues with the seams and general assembly that left us a bit bummed. To be fair we put over 45 nights in it in under a year, but there were some things that could have been a bit better for the price point.
We can discuss the details of our concerns offline in email if you like. It sounds like we've experienced similar issues.
We recently sold our CVT to some good friends and are upgrading to a new tent brand very soon...
How do you have your maxtrax mounted to the gobi rack.
Jmelz20 Actually, they are the knockoffs from Amazon called "Maxxis" Tracks haha!
We used the Gobi rack spare tire mount and drilled a hole through them so it works the same as it would for a spare tire. It works great and allows us to put a lock on the assembly.
Hey man, great videos and awesome family. I have a daughter she is 3 years old and thinking about the travel as well. How did she do? She does not looked like tired or bored.
One thing, what psi you run on pavement and psi on country road?
Thanks, keep doing what you guys doing. Love it.
+tsogt buyan Thanks for watching!
Traveling with a toddler can be a challenge but we have found that ours enjoys the trails more than the open road. There are some tips and tricks to keeping them entertained that we employ like alternating electronics, movies, coloring, and external "i-spy" type games.
Really it just takes time to get them used to the adventure travel, so don't give up if the first few trips are a struggle.
Be sure and make lots of stops to get out and explore with them too, that seems to be the best cure for crankiness on the trail.
As to the PSI question, I literally just dropped a blog post on that subject here:
www.lifestyleoverland.com/deflating-overland-travel/
Hope to see you on the trail soon!
Thanks a lot. I have 2015 tacoma with stage2 Icon and BFG KO2 with 285/75/17.
The blog was very informative ,and helpful to me to hit the road.
What is a good air compressor in the market in your opinion?
Thanks again.
+tsogt buyan That's a perfect setup! Love the Tacoma platform. We use the dual ARB compressor and love it. The speed at which you can air-up is amazing. Other options out there are Viair, and the Puma found on eBay. 23Zero has a unit they are rolling out that looks promising too. Just make sure you get one that's 100% duty cycle rated, the output CFM will be your determining factor on speed. Just as a comparison, we aired up 7 tires in the time a lower tier Viair unit aired up 3. But, it's a few hundred bucks more for the ARB.
Great videos so far, looking forward to more. Which CVT is that? The Denali?
Levi Allen Thanks! Yes, that is the Denali CVT.
How do you like it? Do you think it will be a good fit as your daughter continues to grow? I have been looking at this model as I have an 11 year old daughter.
We have really enjoyed the CVT this past year. Functionally it is perfect for our family, though we have some comments on the quality of the construction. We are looking at trading out for a different brand for next year. Feel free to contact us for a detailed explanation.
What's your mpg with all the equipment?
SamJS Fully loaded out we see between 11 and 13.5 MPG depending on speed and terrain type.
which ARB compressor is that?
Rob Fern That's the dual compressor from ARB. Yes, that's a steel frame I welded up and painted for it. It's worked great but we will be mounting it in the rig for 2017 with an on board 2.5 gallon tank as well.
Everything that I have bought ARB, or Australian made had been a complete pile. I bought a extended fridge drawer, that has been ok.
Robert Knasel We have an fridge/freezer, that compressor, and an inflation tool from ARB. The fridge and compressor have really been absolute work horses with zero issues, the issue in the video was just a fluke from having to much crap stacked on top of it. The inflation tool however is a complete pile and will be replaced as soon as I can find one that's not Chinese made. No idea why ARB allowed their brand to be stamped on it.
I've had ARB with zero issues. Front and rear bumpers, diff covers, fridge, etc. All work perfectly.
how do you find the routes? trails? i mean they are human made before? or you just go outside and drive where ever you want?
+E A These are all public roads and have been around for many years. We use Gaia GPS app along with Google Earth to map our trips before travel.
