HARDSTYLE CHORDS | How to Make Chords in FL Studio | Chord Progression Tutorial (for Your Melody)
In this video you'll learn how to make chords in FL Studio. You'll also learn how to make a chord progression for your melody.
First, make sure you have enabled the "Note grid highlights" on the Piano Roll. This helps you to determine which musical scale you are using. It makes it easier to visualize which notes you can use and cannot use.
To enables this function, go to the upper-left corner of the Piano Roll and click on the arrow (triangle pointing down). Then go to "Helpers" and click "Note grid highlights".
In my example, I'll be using the G minor scale. The scale basically dictates how you can make your chords.
A basic chord is always the stack of 3 notes played simultaneously. These 3 notes are always 2 notes apart from one another. Each note makes a 2 note jump within the scale (G minor in this example). In the G minor scale the second note is A# and the second note of A# is D.
To beef up our G minor chord, we can add another G note and put it 1 octave lower. We can in fact lower both G notes 1 octave again. This makes it sound heavier. These lower notes represent the lower layer of our melody and chord progression.
To make it sound more trancy, we can lower the upper note (D) by 1 octave. This leaves the A# note on top. When we build our
melody, we simply start to build from the A# note.
Now that we have our chords, we can make a rhythm. This we can use for the chord progression.
To build a chord progression, simply make a G minor loop or "story" with the lower notes. These will be the carriers (lower layers) of your chord progression.
Then, copy these notes and put them 1 octave higher. Just like we've seen earlier, to beef it up!
Now it's time to add the upper layer. As we've seen before, we want to build from an A# note. Each note of the upper layer is placed as a chord on top of the corresponding lower layer. For every change in the progression, we simply have 3 notes to choose from that form a chord within this scale (G minor). But we do that in a way so that the top layer plays a nice loop or tells a nice "story".
Finally, we can add the middle layer. The middle layer are usually the remaining notes of the corresponding chords. To keep it simple, just fill it up with notes that you haven't used yet within each chord. But always use your ears to make it sound good.

      That's good timing!
There are a few other videos in the pipeline first, but sure, I will make a new video about hardstyle melodies. In fact, I will do a rawstyle melody video in the future. Stay tuned for that.
      Thanks for the suggestion.

You can use any sound you want to make chords...
Watch some of my other lead/synth videos to learn how to make these typical supersaw(ish) sounds.

    Your chord had G, D and A# - but then your "story" with lower notes had G, A#, F, C and D# ... uhh?

    • @ScreechHouse
      @ScreechHouse  Před 6 lety +1

A basic stack of chords is different than the progression. For the progression, you can basically use any of the notes in the scale. So in this case I used G, A#, F, C and D# (those are all notes within the scale). Those notes happen to tell a logical story. And that's good.
Now when you want to make chords for each progression, you have a different set of rules to work with.
      1. The chords must be part of the scale.
      2. But they also must make 2 note jumps (talking about a basic chords here).
That's why for the first chords I've used G, D and A#. But as the melody progresses, the chords will change, yet still follow these rules.
