      @@lofileif Right, it's sad how little people appreciate the effort it takes to build a system from scratch, from the ground up. I do construction for a living and am just now making my dream desk for my music creation and am thinking I should build this design again and sell the one I just made because it took years of thinking to make things just right and why should I keep it if someone else can use it more than me and is willing to pay me for all the labor I put into making it? I think it's far too often you get guys that just want it all for free and never give anyone back a price that is worthwhile. Personally I feel like I should be paying for this upgrade to Midi Guitar 3, even though I've been a owner since Version one, because it's well worth it! It's so much better in every way. But that's just me... I say you get what you pay for, and certainly it's well worth the $100 paid 11 years ago for it.

      @@lofileif i hope so. This world of midi guitar has been stagnating. I record and use Melodyne or something to convert when I want good tracking and filter the short bleeps via studio one filters. That isn’t very satisfying as it isn’t realtime

  • @screamengine
    @screamengine Před 5 měsíci +4

    For those with dropped tunings, 7 String etc. The problem with tracking out of the normal tuning channel is bandwidth. From the lowest note on the lowest string, which requires much more processing than the higher notes, to the highest on the highest string takes an incredible amount of processing bandwidth. It's not just a case of combining midi guitar with the midi bass app. It's possible to run each in parallel, yes. But not without a lot of messing around and a heavy burden on CPU/Memory. But each requires a 64 bit path that is very much utilized. Perhaps with 128bit multicore processors, in the future, a wide bandwidth detection algorithm can run without frying things. But be excited! You might not realize how incredible it is to have polyphony in a single mono signal. Especially with LOW LATENCY!!! Wow! :)

    • @lofileif
      @lofileif  Před 5 měsíci +3

      Exactly the reason for why extended range tracking had to wait a little. We have a great solution, and don't want to compromise it. We will be back, though!

      I’ve heard this before but I don’t think so. I can do it with the bass plugin and the guitar plugin, I only just need the guitar one for some higher notes not by much, I’d be happy using the bass plugin but then it’s missing other features. Adding one more string detection (you’ve already got it ala bass plugging) can’t break the bank. My Mac is running sweet as and it would be fine to load 8 modulators and the like doing real time trickery, that doesn’t make sense to me but anyway

    Very excited to demo this when it’s available. I had two issues with MG2 that kept me from purchasing, which were present on every type of guitar I tried. One was chromatic passing tones between whole steps and the other was when pitch bend was enabled the instrument sounded awful. My technique isn’t sloppy and I tried troubleshooting with no solution - I am VERY ready to use my guitar as a controller since I do mostly synth work nowadays for my own music. I am stuck using a keyboard, or a Launchpad set to 4ths or a cheap toy (rock band 3 Mustang controller). I can get around on keyboard but am infinitely more comfortable on guitar - really have high hopes now after seeing this!

    • @lofileif
      @lofileif  Před měsícem

      I just answered you in the forum but for anyone else wondering, MIDI Guitar 2 and MIDI Guitar 3 differ in one important respect: MG3 uses the MPE protocol. That means that the way information is sent to virtual instruments via your DAW is different from plain legacy MIDI 1.0 (Like MG2 was) Every DAW seems to have its own solution to deal with this, and some (additional) steps are usually necessary to make it work. Not all DAWs even allow for MIDI to be forwarded from an Audio track FX, to begin with, and also there we had different solutions for different DAWs. So it is not as clear-cut as describing it as "as simple as MG2", I believe. MG3 is way more flexible, and only as complex as you allow for it to be. If you like to just load it as a plugin on an audio track, and use the MIDI GUiITAR MINI patch, it is practically the same thing as MG2. Different DAWs have different issues, and where some can use both AU and VST, others might just be able to use one or the other. The thing we need to do is to set up correctly and choose the environment that suits our needs the best.

    • @lofileif
      @lofileif  Před 5 měsíci +2

      You have three channels (chains) and a Mixer built in. Use one chain for audio another for a synth and third for a backing track or whatever. Have your expression pedal control the mixerfader. Heck, you can even control two faders in a crossfade relationship with one pedal. There are very few limitations. I have only shown you the chase of the app yet. More to come.

    This is all wonderful news Leif!!
    Currently I'm using a patchwork combination of Midi Guitar 2+ Midi Bass in Bitwig for my Drop C and extended range 7 string tunings, since unfortunately MIDI Guitar 2 cant recognize lower notes(B1 being the lowest note it can track). Which is definitely not ideal, but somewhat workable if your daw/software can do the relatively complex midi routing.
    However with the introduction of MPE, it's about to get a lot more complex for people like me. That is, IF the developers fail to implement support for extended range guitars, which shouldnt be the case since MIDI BASS can already do it. So unless they expect us to figure it out ourselves, (which dont get me wrong Im up for the challenge 😄) I just hope that we will receive some good news on this topic before the release 😄 I think that a great software like MG3 deserves extended range support to realize its full potential!
    Thank you and much love!

      So ,there has been a lot of effort directed towards the low range recognition, but no satisfactory solution at this time. So we went ahead with a for now split project of a Duophonic bass (and perhaps low range solution) . But nothing is finished and I don't know what will come out in the end either. We are going to have to take one hurdle at a time, and hope that users have patience and understanding with that.

      Guitar to sheet music, you mean? Well, first off even if this software is improved so much so you would hear, or is bothered by any spurious notes, there is always a certain jitter in these kind of setups. And furthermore, since this is an analysis of a single audio stream from your guitar, and not six (like with hexaphonic pickups) there is no distinguishing where you are playing (in case you are looking to use it for TABs). So I wouldn't expect perfection. Improved, yes - Perfect, not yet. 👍

There has been attempts made already to also include extended range guitars, but JamOrigin choose to start this evaluation process with the beta for standard tunings just to start somewhere. Looks pretty good. I have MG2 on iPad Pro M1. I have a slight quirk in that because of the somewhat unnecessary and limiting removal of the headphone jack, I have a Belkin HD dock TB3, on the single port of my iPad. It’s common for me to simply have a simple analog to digital input device, which goes into one of the rear USB3/TB3 ports of the Belkin. Usually I just use GarageBand and this becomes problematic sometimes for anythjng complex - like I cannot attach a real quality audio interface, because GB cannot see through the Belkin, to the audio interface if it’s a ‘proper’ one. It’s a real PITA that Apple did not give enough weight to. Anyway, I echo others here, this is quite a thing, though simple in principle, because nothing is more analog than a guitar in terms of expression I think? Making that MIDI must take some doing. I don;t know when MG3 will be available for the iPad/iPhone but I look forward to trying it. Steinberg asked for ‘new money’ for their iOS/iPadOS Cubasis to go from version 2 to version 3, and I’d echo people saying you would be justified charging an upgrade cost. Take care all.

      Sampletsnk is a particularly bad choice for a plugin to start with, because you really can’t set it up to recieve in OMNI mode, on all channels. MIDI Guitar 3 use the MPE protocol, which means it is sending out all notes together with values for pitchbend and other stuff on multiple channels at once, all the time. Sampletank can’t make sense of information sent this way, at this point in time. So you are better of starting with Kontakt. And there is really no difference using Kontakt in a DAW like Logic or Ableton from using it in MIDI Guitar 3. Open Kontakt and choose an instrument. Old piano-like sustain didn’t have any button for release time, and the new freeze function (hold chord) is cutting off pitch bend at the point of being pressed. Not as before, delayed for some time, allowing for a lot of bend information to slip in and cause trouble.

      We have no implementation for the hexPU at this point. I would probably argue that the only real difference left is the "per-string-assignment" of instruments that has become something of a standard with hexPU users. JamOrigin has plans for adding hexPU suppor thought. I have tried a version, but It needs a little more work still. But personally I feel this is superior from a dynamic perspective as well. No dying notes. Everything plays and bends as an actual guitar in a way no other controller I have tried does. But that will probably be a matter of taste. So, once you've got to try it out for yourself, you can tell me if I am mistaken or delusional.

    • @lofileif
      @lofileif  Před 5 měsíci

      I don't like talking about solved in absolute terms. It depends on what you want from it. You all get to try it out and decide for yourself. Let's say, there have been considerable improvements in the area of note polyphonic note recognition. Tweaking bend and legato? In the synths themselves would be my spontaneous answer. Bends are string bends, whether you use fingers, whammy bar, slide or fretless guitar. You can of course mess with the way bends are interpreted by the synth, by connecting any of the modulator envelopes or a vibrato pedal to it, but that generally just makes it harder to get predicable result from it. Legato, well we have Piano like sustain option on the sustain pedal that emulates a legato in the note overlap sense. But there is no dedicated legato setting like in the MG2.

    • @krraqk
      @krraqk Před 5 měsíci

      Hello, thanks for the response. If there are improvements in the polyphonic recognition thats a very good news!. With bend I mean pitch bend range, something that you need to match with the synth you are playing in order to get the best results, in MG2 you can decide the range to match the synth. About the legato, I think thats bad news, at least to me, in many sample libraries and synths in order to trigger a legato sound you need to overlap slightly two notes, something you CANT do with a single guitar string, so that parameter was very useful in order to obtain that very important behavior in the sound you try to emulate. That legato thing happens in many many libraries. How do you do to trigger that aspect of the library when you play it?

      This is an MPE controller., and you have a very competent polyphonic bend with that. Bend ranges are set to match each synth (on each synth) and you have a set of choices between 1 and 48. Don't be disappointed because there isn't a legato button. The piano-like sustain provides the same kind of MIDI overlap you are looking for, and you can set the releasetime from 0.0 to 10.0 seconds. And you can control it, turning it on and off with an external pedal or other controller of choice. It is just not called legato anymore.

    • @krraqk
      @krraqk Před 5 měsíci

      Aha ok so there is a replacement of the legato function with the new sustain parameter,that’s good news! Classical midi sustain is a simple on off so this can be an interesting approach. It’s clear that MG3 is a very advanced and innovative new version, I only hope the windows version is around the corner, right?

    I have what should be a simple question: How do I make my electric guitar, a Parker Fly with humbuckers, sound like an acoustic guitar? The competition, GR-55 and GP10, convert signal before sending to the DAW, and are very expensive and require a special 13-pin pickup. As I understand it, MidiGuitar sends a midi signal to the DAW and you use MidiGuitar to change signal into another instrument (no external pickup or processing) in the DAW. How? Then, if you show that answer, can you tell me if MidiGuitar3 can track more than one music line better than MidiGuitar2, say a simple acoustic blues with a bass line separate from the main melody? Does MidiGuitar3 avoid the occasional problems with half step changes? Can I mix melody lines, bass lines (with palm muting), and strumming on my electric so it sounds like an acoustic? Are there any acoustic guitar instruments (software) you would recommend to use in MidiGuitar3 to get the required sound? I'm trying to play my electric guitar like my acoustics for fingerstyle blues.

    • @lofileif
      @lofileif  Před 4 měsíci +1

      You just connect your Parker Fly directly to your audio interface, and open MIDI Guitar 3. The software will convert the incoming audio to MIDI (MPE if you like) , and you just open any software instrument you have in any of the Chain slots, czcams.com/video/bFr3ilP6dKc/video.html
      If you want to use MG3 with a DAW you can open it as a Plugin inside your DAW of choice, or you send MIDI from the standalone version of the app. That is up to you. MIDI Guitar 3 has vastly improved tracking both concerning single lines and polyphonic tracking. Please take a look at my most recent videos for the rest of the questions.

      Thank you for such a quick response (within an hour of my inquiry) and all the time you spend explaining this stuff to the community. I reviewed the other videos you cited and probably understood 50 percent of the content. I'll be honest. I'm just a hobbyist. But I think there are a lot of us out there. Our use case: We want to play something that sounds acoustic without breaking out the loud acoustic guitars with the larger fretboards that are hard on our small hands and so loud they bother our neighbors. In addition, let's say I'm a businessman on a business trip and I'm in a hotel somewhere. I don't want to lug an expensive acoustic with me, but if I have cheap, small electric guitar with me, I bet I can plug it into Midi Guitar 3 on a laptop and hear myself in my hotel room with headphones without disturbing the neighbors. This makes your product valuable even to hobbyists who have trouble practicing without bothering others, even at home. I suspect I'll need a more powerful laptop to avoid latency and tracking issues, but I'm willing to buy one and your product if I see that your product can do the job. I'd really like to see someone playing simple fingerstyle blues (palm-muted bass line and melody line, strumming, etc.) via MidiGuitar3 and showing me a simple way to set that up. I understand that the product offers even more versatility than I need but that comes with increased complexity that may require more training than I need. I'm looking for how to use it in my simple case. I bet it's possible for someone to show how that's done at some point, and that will be a big draw. @@lofileif

      @user-mq7fz4dl9h First, so to avoid any mistake, this is neither my product or creation. JamOrigin is the company behind this product. www.jamorigin.com
      I have just been lucky enough to be able to be part of seeing MG3 being developed. And by being part of the test team I have had the opportunity to make some videos about it along the way. But now the software is being tested broadly (with public beta), and I can start relying on it being its own best marketing tool for anyone interested. JamOrigin has always had this great demo where you get to try the full thing for as long as you like before you buy. And i am sure this will still be the case, going forward. So any questions you might have, you should be able to decide for yourself instead of me telling you guys ”how good” or ”groundbraking” this is. If you already own MG2 (and work with a Mac) you are free to join the beta testing now, otherwise there will be a demo coming soon! 👍

In my GP 10 I had 8 channels of clean audio available. If the SY1000 is anything like that, you can use any the first two channels 1-2 in MG3. You open MG3, choose the SY1000 as your preferred audio interface and choose channel 1 or 2. Then why, is the question left to answer. But that is up o you.
