Twist: Persephone's just asking about how long it's going to take him to install a second elevator.

Notes:
- Pretty standard as far as shots go, was directionless for a bit since what was in my head was the feeling of actions instead of the framing of them - if that makes sense. In the end tried to shift the camera in accordance to who was driving the conversation, but wasn't very consistent with that for composition/flow sake - something to work on?
- Also need to decide how to exaggerate Hades, wanted him to be chunky, but also taller, but also kinda buff, but not really, could pass as someone's dad. Pick something and stick with it next time.
- Colour turned out a lot less janky than expected (apologies for that yellow-purple combo tho)
- Me at first: wooo colour symbolism
- Me now: does this even make sense resists dumping garbled explanation no one wants - Krátké a kreslené filmy
I know this is supposed to be very sad and melancholy, but

I like to think that when they married she didnt have her throne/rulership established, but as he started to industrialize hadestown/neglect her emotionally she refused to rule beside him bc she wouldnt be listened to (by this song/animatic, ill assume he constantly shamrd any attempt at merciful/compassionate ruling and she gave up on it/him)

That was oddly sweet and you can see Persephone was like "Oh baby, stop being adorable. We really need to talk about this."
I very much love the color contrast between Hades and Persephone! How Hades is red with a type of spite and rage he holds while Persephone is a dull, unhappy, green like someone who used to be vibrant and splendid that dimmed and grew less overtime. How it contrast each other. Art and theme is amazing as usual!!!! You’re doing great!
Ahh what a great perspective! Something I also noticed was how everyone in the underworld was just as dull as well!! I love how well drawn the entire animatic is and how interesting what you said is as well ^^

There's also the little detail that when she says "But then the world comes back to life" her colors become more vibrant :)

Remember that the next time someone tells you something is pointless while actively trying to stop you from doing it.
the way you interpreted how hades says “the girl means nothing to me” and how persephone answers “i know” is EXACTLY how i envisioned it. this is one of my favorite songs in the musical because of how much i adore these two so seeing it like this is beautiful, great work!!

I love that in the original myth Orpheus got both of them to agree but still over Hades’ conditions. This song really remarks the stubborn and careful Hades is but still honest.

sealbatross Kinda but mostly I mean honest as in the way he doesn’t deny what is he feeling, as he knows that if he lets her go people will take it as a weakness, not being able to put them in line anymore. He knows how everything works on his kingdom and knows this relationship with his wife is unfulfilling

When they start singing together about the sun it gives me the feeling of two immortal, impossibly old beings coming to terms with something and coming to terms with each other
I like to think that the thing they’re coming to terms with is Impermanence-the fact that _everything_ will eventually change. Not even the deathless gods can escape this Fate, because some day the sun itself will burn out. Persephone, as the goddess of spring, is always coming face to face with the cycles of life and death in nature and so is more ready to accept that reality with grace. Hades on the other hand rejects it. In fact you could say that Hadestown itself is an edifice to his existential anxiety, his futile attempt to build something permanent in this impermanent world . And even though he knows that in the end it’s pointless, he can’t bring himself to let go of it. He’s as trapped as anyone else in Hadestown

Can we all just appreciate 3:07... It's such a beautiful contrast to how she was the whole song, in her dull green coloring showing just how tired she is of everything... It's being up above, giving spring and bringing the earth back to life that gives her life, that gives her color. Then we get to 3:09, with Hades who instead of appreciating the beauty, the life she gives off, is turning back into the darkness, as if turning away from the sunlight which, I think shows his fears... He knows that being above gives Persephone happiness, he knows just how much she loves the world above, and she fears that that love for the earth would cause her to leave him forever and stay at the surface, which also causes him to keep her from leaving Hadestown on time and coming for her earlier than what was planned, as referenced on Living it up on top and Way Down Hadestown.

The look he gives her with the "it's yours too" when she sings about HIS Underworld broke my heart. I was just thinking about this specific line when listening to it tonight, and just that, how she doesn't call it "our" Underworld. Beautifully done ❤️

I'm so blown away by the dynamics and characterisation that has gone into this. How Long has always been one of my favourite songs from the album and I think this animatics truly displays how much of a turning point this encounter is. The sun sequence was absolutely beautiful

God, I love How Long so much. I was waiting for a quality version of it (Bootlegs of 2017 have floated around here and there) with Patrick and Amber since I first found Hadestown years ago, lol. My favorite thing about the song is how Persephone snaps at Hades, but immediately softens. You really captured that in this. The design you envisioned for Hadestown is also really cool looking. The clock hanging town almost akin to a chandelier is really striking, along with the hot color that really describes the heat that is within Hadestown. Just an A++ animatic overall.

Oh my god this is just so majestic. I love how you can see Persephone constantly stopping Hades from leaving so that he can hear her out. I love the frames at 1:08 , it depicts Orpheus’s grief so well to the point where the viewer can feel it. And Hades’s expressions fit his point of view so well! I’m gonna stop ranting but just know that this deserves a reward.

And side note: Hades has the graveliest, raspiest voice I've heard, I both love it and kinda don't

i loved this so much!!! the little 'it's yours too' at the window scene and hades circling her and being taller, but then the glorious little explosion of life and persephone grabbing his hands and being truthful and happy - and then persephone being in the light and hades in the shadows GAH!!!!!!
