Love the analysis. To add, Soyeon is playing Athena and Minnie is playing Medusa. In Greek Mythos, Athena cursed Medusa after Poseidon r***d her, which is how she got her snake hair. So their interpretation is to heck with Poseidon. Cruella played by Yuqi was obsessed with looking rich, fashionable and on brand to be more acceptable to society for her eccentricities, which led to her downfall. Marie Antoinette is played by Shuhua and was executed for giving in to her promiscuities. Cleopatra, played by Miyeon, took her own life before Octavian could parade her around as a trophy after defeating Egypt. All of their characters reference powerful women who were wronged or misguided by society.

Thanks for adding all these details. My take is that women who are deemed as having a super power in society whether it is for their beauty (Medusa and Cleopatra), Athena (smarts), Cruella (fashion), and Marie Antoinette (power and status), they often get villainized or punished in some way. This is not to say that all these women are perfect or uncomplicated, but in case, it's interesting to think about.

Soyeon said in an interview that the music video was right around $820,000 to produce.

In a world of gender inequality, they are NOT acceptable. Frm the awards given to girls and boys groups in Korea. But good thing abt (G)I-DLE, Soyeon and the others are not easily affected, they are standing firm with what they are performing and the ideology they are sending to the world and their fans!
I LOVE 'SUPER LADY' & 'WIFE' NO mattter wad sh1t KBS and local Korean netizens are saying!!!

Thanks for the video, enjoyed it.. several nice point made, better than some videos just saying "so good" and "they are pretty". One sad note, their fandom, a lot of times, is the biggest Resistance to their growth. They do not support, they just demand this and that. TOXIC.

Great analysis! Thanks. You made many good points, one being each of them depicting historical/fictional women portrayed as villains. While from Tomboy, their feminist, social messages are more direct, it has always been the case before too with songs like Lion, Oh My God. All their songs right from their debut title track Latata are written and produced by them and so feel authentic - whether love, sex, heartbreak, revenge, loss, acceptance, growth and the many things they experience as women - they pour it in their songs. It's fascinating to get to know them through their songs, and also through live performances, variety shows, interviews. Soyeon has always said women need to repeat their opinions & views again & again as the patriarchal society otherwise doesn't listen to them. Soyeon & I-DLE do it in many creative ways every time!

G idle is paving the way for future Korean women to live their life and not have to live sterotypical lives. Feminism is frowned upon in Korea. Hopefully soon society will be more open to not only women but the LGBTQ as well.
