Yamaha RD250 mount and start up

  • In this video I build a mount to install the RD250 Yamaha on for test running. I go through the hook up of the total loss ignition, fuel lines and mounting. Then I kick it over and get some pops, swap out the coil wires and it starts right up, do a few carb adjustments and it seems like it runs pretty well.

      @@montana2strokeracer I own an RZ350 and a RD350. Restored and maintain both along with other bikes that come and go. I am always trying to learn more, and looking for new ways to do things. Your channel has a lot to offer. I am always happy to know there are other folks out there who are doing their best to keep two strokes alive. Keep up the good work and good sharing.

    I would like to have a Yamaha twin lying around just to start up and listen to those sweet sounds. Always loved them.
    I built several 50cc twins out of two 25cc weedwhacker motors. Fitted them with my custom CDI ignitions and put them on model airplanes. Outstanding performance. Super smooth, powerful, and great sound. I ported the cylinders. They run close to 10,000 rpms.
    Can't wait to see this project continue, and of course, the custom AT1-MX

      Hi, thank you for the kind words, I try to move around, hoping to attract a more diverse crowd. I know that not everyone is working on a Yamaha, but those are what I find the most of here. I seem to have more followers that are working on Suzuki's. I like to throw some motorcycle machining and fabrication in to get some machine shop folks too. I really love the machine shop side of motorcycle repair and modification. Lots of helpful folks out there that I talk with every day. (Usually by comment or email) I went over and looked at your channel and subscribed. You have a lot going on and I'm just sure you can really get going if you continue to put the content out. I have found by asking for help, you will get it. Most guys don't really care what you're working on, just that you're doing something interesting and somewhere down their alley. Keep up the good work

There’s lots of gear wrenching channels on CZcams that have some helpful diagnostic content, most of it is the same problems: but the machine shop /Resto work is really special . Some of the rare /older bikes/vehicles you can’t just throw money or parts at. It takes skill, patience and determination to finish them off. I’m here to learn and pick up skills. Early 70's RD 200 in metallic purple and white is probably the prettiest bike ever made! That style of engine cover, black with the two polished stripes is classic.
    If those carbs are new from SUDCO they probably have primary choke needle jets instead of proper emulsion tubes. Yamaha swapped to 'four stroke' type carb internalswhen they went to reed valve motors instead of piston port. The brass shroud sticks up about 8mm (5/16") into carb bore on primary choke

    • @montana2strokeracer
      @montana2strokeracer  Před rokem

      Not sure on the carbs, haven't had a lot of time to look at them, yes, they are new. This engine didn't have any when I got it. This carb was listed as a 2-stroke carb, I remember that from when I ordered them.

      @@montana2strokeracer It will run a lot better if you set them up to factory spec for the 75/76 model. It's a PITA spending bunch of cash on new emulsion tubes and needles on brand new carbs. Nice video Dale! The Yamaha twin cylinder 2 cycles are awesome... very unique sound that's amazing. I believe the Yamaha Banshee twin 350 (sport quad) from 1987-2006 is built off of a very similar design as the RD engine models and have a cult like following. There is tons of aftermarket parts for the Banshee engines and it is not uncommon for them to have 50-100hp depending on how they were built. 👍
