  • How to change the Final Stage Resistor on a BMW E46.
    A common problem if your heater blower motor has a life of its own.
    And since english isn't my 1st language, I just wont speak in the vid. So you have to live with the text based instructions.
    The repair takes around 20-30 min to perform

    Thank you, thank you, thank you. There are several videos on CZcams, but yours is the most efficient one. I followed your steps and it took me about 30 minutes to replace faulty FSR on my E46. FSR was failing last two years (blower was changing speed on its own) but last week finally died........

    Thank you for posting this. I was able to do this repair for less than $50.00 and it worked! Everything went back and looks professional. I admit it did take me about 2 hours total but it was well worth it. only one small scrape on my knuckle. Thanks again for taking the time to post this.

      ivac tunnel removal is not essential. Though in the way, doesn't prevent the FSU from getting out.

    Thanks so much for this video! Super helpful. The only thing different on my 2000 328i was that the FSU was held in by two more T20 screws. The hardest part of the whole thing was getting the HVAC tunnel back in! My climate control fan is working again, just in time for hot weather!

    Hi "BMW 3 Series" Thank you so much for this video! I was able to follow your instructions to get my FSR changed out last night, and everything seem to be working ok right now. I only problem I had was that I didn't have the Torx20 screw driver like you did, but those "L" shaped Allen key equivalent. Needed some patience to get them out. Need to invest in Torx screw set :)

    Can you kind people please give me some advice?. I have 3 series touring e46 model, my blower works intermitedly and rear heater is also not working. My local mechanic said it was the climate control panel as it is a common fault but also could be FSR. As it seems that both blower and rear heater have been affected would you guys say that it is more likely the climate control panel itself rather than FSR?. Thanks. P.S Best FSR repair video on youtube. Clear, HD quality, no shaking camera etc

    hello,
    i have an issue with this repair if you can please advise. i did this, just as you show here, though i dont have a thermal cam (lol). once replaced, and the FSR installed, i tested the fan speed controls and Auto AC functions again. This time, it worked like a charm. low speed, high speed and auto all performed well. however, going to turn the car off and pack everything up, the fan did not shut off. this remained on after i turned the AC off, turned the car off etc.

  • @mondeo984

  • @mondeo984

    May well be the FSR.
    It has an electronic circuit inside and is powered all the time. So a fail in the FSR can cause a battery drain....and have en fan running a life on it's own

      It can be a bit tricky to get it back in place. I had to fight with it for 5-10 min before I managed it my self. Had to pull the console for the radio a bit out to get more room.

  • @mondeo984
    @mondeo984  Před 11 lety

    A failing FSU/FSR can cause the fan to not spin at all, spin with its own life (up and down) or just not possible to adjust the speed on.
    Just because it was changed once, does not mean that it can't fail again. This part is poorly designed and is likely to fail

    • @steveozombie
      @steveozombie Před 10 lety +1

      its on the right hand side so no need to remove the glove box also just a bit of advice before you remove the final stage, remove the plug and clean inside the connections as my one was dirty it fixed the problem. how you can tell if its dirty, get a steel rod and touch it of the final stage housing to the steering column making two connections if your heaters come on its a bad connection, try this before getting the part (best of luck)

    • @steveozombie

      on the right side in a right hand side car... plus if you touch a steel rod of the steering column and final stage with the egnition on it might fix itself
