- Imagine being so excited for the newest DJI Fly App Update only to be disappointed almost immediately after installing it. Well, that's exactly what happened today and I'm here to say, DJI could do much better...
I guess I should clarify, but if I told you the problem I had, there's a chance you may not watch to find out exactly what happened. All I can say is, there is probably thousands of people out there who spent good money on a DJI Mini 4 Pro accessory that is now nothing more than a paper weight. And that is DISAPPOINTING!
Anyway, I have been waiting on this new Fly App update for almost 4 months and have been using the 1.12.8 fly app update since it was released. I skipped the Fly App Updates following the 1.12.8 simply because there seemed to be way too many problems and they seemed to be pretty difficult to install.
Anyway, with all that said, watch along and see why I'm so disappointed in DJI. I know they can do better...
As always we want to thank everyone for watching and taking the time to comment. Oh, by the way, did you notice the awesome quick visit from someone special in the video? If you did, let us know in the comments. God bless and have a great week!!!

That guy was most likely nervous when he saw your drone. Thanks for your tests. Kristy sure gets around buddy. Your so funny. God Bless brother.
Lol Kristi’s appearing like that was hilarious I have to agree. I honestly couldn’t stop laughing when I finally figured out how to do it. She’s always so dang happy! Hahaha. God bless you guys as well, Fred. Thanks for watching!!!!
I noticed that quick in and out cameo
I just got my first drone yesterday (the 4 mini pro) , thanks for your video. You mentioned a CPL filter, which one do you use or recommend?
Oh awesome! Congratulations on the drone. The Mini 4 pro is a fantastic drone and definitely a good one to start with. I can say we’ve been pleased with pretty much the whole mini 4 pro experience. Lol. Anyway, I use a CPL filter from freewell most of the time but that’s really only because I fly around water most of the time. It helps with glare and stuff like that. Unfortunately for this video though, I didn’t notice the drone had reset itself to Pro camera mode rather than my normal Auto mode so the colors were really funky. I just leave the CPl filter on the drone all the time now because auto mode really does a great job determining the settings (in my opinion of course haha). Anyway, it’s a good idea to have a filter of some sort on the 4 pro even if nits just the UV filter because the little cover they provide with the drone doesn’t have any glass in it so your camera lens is open to the elements. Of course I didn’t figure that out. Someone else told me. Hahaha. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I hope this info helps. God bless!!!
Hahaha! Love the guy asking about fishing! “ You see the signs in front of my truck “! 🤣🤣
Yes I like to keep mine updated. I really like they changed put the N mode back. I know it is something simple but I like to see N mode. I have not tested or timed the boot up time on the RC2 that is something I want to look at. Thanks for the test!! That sucks about your battery ! Paper weight it is!
I had the slow boot problem. This update fixed it.
@@paradoxicalcat7173yes I did test this after that comment and I am glad they fixed it.
Lol yea that guy asking me about fishing there was hilarious. I fly there a lot and always see people fishing. Most of the time they park where I parked so there’s no way they don’t see the sign. I’ve seen the law there before but I don’t know if they enforce the no fishing or not though. I know I don’t fish there. Lol. Anyway, I’m glad they fixed all the problems with the fly app but that firmware screwing up the after market battery is disheartening. I feel bad for the guys who paid for those kinds of batteries for sure.
@@WeretheRoberts yeah that sucks because I bet those batteries were not cheap!
Thanks for the test.Very interesting. Sorry about your new paper weight. I noticed that your TX antennas were not folded out. Surprised you achieved the range that you got, especially as you were still in your vehicle. Keep up with the great videos.
Awesome! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. Yea that paperweight is pretty useless at the moment. I did find a way to use it for something though. It still charges in the charger so I used that battery to charge my phone after making the video. Lol. Regarding the antennas I always forget those things! Haha. I don’t see them so it’s out of site out of mind most of the time. Anyway, I guess it shows the signal is really good since I didn’t lose any bars, eh? Lol.
Great video brother. I always enjoy your videos. We are now in the Olympic Mountains in Washington State for the summer. It's too hot to spend the summer in Yuma Arizona. Hope you both are doing well.❤❤
Thanks, Ron! We always enjoy your comments so thanks so much for continuing to support us. I bet it’s boiling in Yuma right now. It’s mid to high 90s here pretty much every day now and it’s miserable! At least we have a “sea breeze” but unfortunately we’re too far inland to enjoy it. Hahaha.
Thanks for the test flights of new firmware and app. Sorry about your battery but I bet you can still use it to charge your phone while it is installed in the multi charger or for your drone when using it as a handheld camera like you did with the fisherman.
Lol it’s funny you said that. The battery does still charge in the mini 4 charger and I used it to charge my phone right after this test. Haha. Great minds, Bob!
Love your style... goes down easy like oatmeal. Subbed!!!
Heck yea! Thanks so much for watching and for your awesome comment. We really appreciate your support and are always excited to hear when someone enjoys our content. Welcome to the team!!! God bless. Kevin
That is a REALLY good way to keep your drone safe. I do the same with computer OS software updates!
Very cool. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. We hope you enjoyed the video and you found something helpful. God bless! Kevin
Thanks for sharing Kevin and well done as aways. It may have something to do with the way the RID is activated or warranty like some others have mentioned or who knows. That is one way to keep the battery sales going ha-ha! Take care and God bless!
Hahaha. Yea DJI obviously didn’t like losing those extra battery sales so they nipped it in the bud quick! I really do feel bag for those who spent money on these aftermarket batteries though for sure. I’m assuming it was in the firmware update rather than the fly app though, eh? I’ll never know. Lol. Hope you’re doing well, brother!
Do you normally have the camera in Pro mode? Sometimes it reverts to that after an update.
Lol. So far you’re the only one who’s mentioned the camera being in pro mode. Actually I never put it in pro mode because I have no idea what I’m doing with that stuff. The only manual anything I can do is drive a car. Lol. Everything else has to be automatic or I’ll fail. I tbh k it did exactly what you said here. Those colors were weird!
@@WeretheRoberts Just passing along my limited experience. Hope it helps!
Alright brother , great video! Some hilarious moments as usual , leaving the pad on the truck, Kristi appearing in the passenger seat to name a few haha! Can’t believe they took it away so you can’t use that battery now, that’s unreal, you want to contact who you got it from ? Great to see there is no bugs in the update though, well only the one in your truck ey! Keep them coming brother, have a great week ! 👌👏👍
Hahahab dang man you didn’t miss a thing, eh? Gotta love your attention span. Most people watch a few minutes then click off. Hahaha. I can’t tell you how funny I thought Kristi’s appearances was. When I figured out how to do that in the editor stuff, I couldn’t stop laughing. When I showed her what I did all she could do was grin and shake her head. I have a feeling she’ll be making more appearances in the future. Actually I think next weeks video she’s legitimately there. Hahaha. Anyway, great idea about contacting Power Extra pro and giving them the heads up. I’m gonna email them and see what they say. Thanks for watching as always, buddy. We really appreciate your constant support and awesome comments!!! God bless.
@@WeretheRoberts oh I do brother always watch your videos from start to finish, always a great watch and really enjoy them! Haha is she really going to be there though, or some clever editing haha! Haha can see her shaking her head at you! Yea was just an idea to see what they say, they can’t be selling batteries now that are basically just an expensive brick ? Maybe they can shed some light on it? Well il definitely be looking forward to your next one, have a great week brother , stay safe! 👌👏👍
Top man Kev for the mention another great video - interesting with the weather apps - I never bother that update was a nightmare but glad you got there. Many thanks for sharing the fun of flying drones
Hahaha. I hope you know I was kidding with you buddy. I thought it was hilarious though. Haha. This update process really had me confused I gotta say. Trust me if I had your phone number I would’ve been calling you too. Hahaha
Bom dia Kev ! Eu sou aqui do estado de Pernambuco ( Brasil ) me tira uma dúvida ! Esta nova atualização 1.13.4 faz com que o mini 4 pro não aceite mais as baterias que não sao originais da dji é ?
Awesome and welcome to the channel! Thanks so much for watching and for the comment. From what I understand so far, the thing that made the Mini 4 it able to use these batteries was the firmware update. I don’t believe it’s the Fly app 1.13.4 but in order to update to the 1.13.4, I had to first install the new firmware. Lol. Your guess is as good as mine I suppose. If you’re still on the 1.12.8 fly app and the older firmware, I’d stay with them especially if you have an aftermarket battery. DJI screwed us!!! Haha
Thanks for the heads up. Got a mini 4 last week and was thinking of a 4th battery and saw the aftermarket ones pop up. I like sticking with oem but for an extra battery the price difference was appealing, especially if they preform close to,the same. That’s the problem with “smart” technology, allows them to control what you can and can’t do.
Lol well I’m glad you held off on the aftermarket battery. It’s crazy how they simply cut them off like they did. I do feel bad for the guys who paid good money for them. I did figure out it’s not a total loss though. It’ll still charge in the controller and I charged my phone with that battery the other day. Lol.
I didn't think you paid for the non branded battery ? Also how difficult is it to remember label up, label up, label up when putting the battery in ?
Lol you’re right. I didn’t pay for that battery as it was sent for a review. I feel bad for the guys who paid good money for them though. It’s like buying a steak and when you get it it’s a piece of rubber. That would be weird and that was a horrible analogy. Anyway, label up reminds me of laces out on Ace Ventura. Lol.
Good to know brother let me check also in my mini 2 thanks for sharing.
Heck yea, man! I still have to update the Mini 2, also. It’s been a busy week! Lol
Kevin you got there in the end! I felt you pain when we had a convo about the updates lol. Kristi,s hide and seek challenge worked just fine hahaha... Bit of a bummer about the non DJI Batteries tho. Keep safe brother 👍
Lol man I’m glad I am good friends with this guy called Nobbygreen. I would honestly still be sitting on the couch with my head in my hands thinking “How dumb am I?” Lol. Thanks again man. Maybe the next firmware update will reverse the batteries though, eh?
@@WeretheRoberts sounds like a plan haha 😜
Another great video from you guys! Love that you pasted the wife in a couple of shots, cracked me up!!! You guys do such awesome videos!
Hahaha. Man, I couldn’t stop laughing when I figured out how to do that. When I showed wife, all she could do was grin and shake her head. Poor lady. Lol. Thanks so much for watching and for the awesome comment.
I was on 1.12.8, and last night fought. I'll update my drone. Don't know if it was me, but It seemed like the 3 original batteries with not that much use didn't seem to have lasted as long as they should and will have to do a screen recording on each battery next time I go flying. I noticed on your flights that you didn't open the antennas, I wonder if it does not really matter as I've done the same by mistake in the past with no problems on connection.
So you decided to update on a whim, eh? Sounds like us! Haha. I don’t think I flew long enough to notice any difference in battery power but I’ll try to remember to pay attention to that next flight. I have the plus batteries so I get quite a bit of flight time normally. Regarding the antennas, I seem to forget them almost every flight now. Lol. I have that controller protector shield cover thing and it blocks them so I don’t see them I guess out of sight out of mind, eh? Anyway, I’ve really never noticed any difference but then again I haven’t flown the Mini 4 too far away from the home point.
I guess he thought you were a game warden and wanted to see if you were goin to arrest him or give him a ticket for illegal fishin! 3:52 in - Either I saw Kristi or I was hallucinating! And yes, at 9:31 in the color looked off right after Dwight elevated. I took Aerith up for a few minutes the other day after the update. I've heard it said (Knobby Green) that most of the update was for new features to use in the Capcut video editing program, which I don't use. Another great video brother! 💜😎💜
Lol you weren’t hallucinating man. Kristi made a special appearance or 2 against her will of course. Man I laughed like crazy when I figured out how to do that. I think she may make more appearances in the future, too. We’ll have to wait and see. Haha. I think the drone went into full pro mode on me after the update and I didn’t notice until I was editing the footage. Those colors were crazy off.
Great video again thanks. I have updated my mini3 pro too and controller and had the same issue with the non dii battery. however when I rebooted the drone and the controller I got the warning about the battery again ...but after a little while that disappeared and I was able to fly with my mini3 Pro... so there might still be hope for our non dii expensive batteries.
Seriously? Wow that’s awesome! So when you say after a little while, do you mean you left the drone on for a while and the warning went away or was it after a few on off cycles of the drone?
@@WeretheRoberts I just leave the drone on and after about a minute the warning goes away and I can fly ....
@@willemoudewater3123ah ok. I tried that and waited and waited and waited. lol. It didn’t work for me. Boooo!! Lol
I thought about using after market batteries but was worried about that. Good test Kevin. Like # 46!!!
Lol well, you’re smarter than I am. Haha. At least for me it was a free battery but those poor guys who spent hard earned money I feel bad for, eh?
Great video tests!!!
Sad about the battery that won’t work any longer 😢
This video has it all the good the bad and the ugly 😅
👍👏🐾🐈⬛👏
Lol thanks for watching, buddy. Yea that battery being banned is a total bummer. I heard about it on the 1.13.0 update but I think it’s probably the firmware update rather than the fly app update. Fortunately for us the battery was free to do a review on but I feel horrible for the ones who spent their money on it only for it to be a brick. It does charge in the charging station though and I charged my phone using it the other day so at least there’s that. Lol. Maybe eventually they’ll reverse the decision and let us be free again. Probably not. It’s DJI. Hahaha.
Excellent test video, and great verse Kevin. Love the guest appearances of Kristi in the video. DJI wants all your money, and will make sure that happens. Have a Wonderful and Blessed Week Kevin and Kristi. Thank you.
Lol you’re right, Doug! DJI is like the power and phone companies around here. Maybe eventually they’ll unblock them again but I’m not counting on it. I’m hoping, too that Kristi makes more appearances in the future. Hahaha.
hi there my mini4 updated couple weeks after i got it i have had it 54 days after the update my cheap wireless mic refuses to work is this djis way of making me buy there own gear happy flying
Lol someone said they’re “control freaks” and I’m beginning to believe it. We have the Rode wireless mics and haven’t had any problems with them. At least not yet. Lol
Kev mate, I had the same battery as you the aftermarket one. When I turned on my 4 Pro it came up on my screen “critically low battery” even though it was full. I was bloody nervous it would think it was flat and try to land. Also, the bugger wouldn’t let you update the firmware with it either as it would go to 70% and then stop. Not worth risking a $1500 drone mate and I chucked the battery out. Love your vids mate, all the best from Australia.
Oh wow that’s weird. That may have been a scare tactic by DJI. Lol. When the company sent us the battery one of their warnings was not to update the drone firmware with the battery. I guess they knew it wouldn’t work right but I don’t think they anticipated being totally shut down like this. You’re right it’s not worth the risk to the $1500 drone. Lol. Thanks so much for watching and for the awesome support. God bless!!!
Thanks friend for your tests! Like and subscribed
🤜🤛👍🇵🇹
Awesome!!! Thanks so much for watching and for your kind words. We really appreciate your support and are always happy to hear when someone enjoyed our videos. God bless!!! Kevin.
I wonder what would have happened if you had done the update with the non dji battery in.
lol no idea but I bet it would be bad. I’ll let someone else try that. Hahaha.
Thank you for still including the mini 2
Heck yea! There’s no way we can neglect our original stars of the show, eh? lol. Thanks so much for watching and for your awesome support.
What is up with the compass? It's bouncing round all over the place??
That’s a really good question. I didn’t notice until someone else pointed it out this morning. Maybe I need to do a calibration. Lol
Hi there, just my opinion, but I think the reason dji disabled non dji batteries is because of remote id. Let me explain, when you fly with regular 249g battery remote id is not broadcasting. When you put in the dji plus battery the drone will broadcast remote id. I think when you use a non dji plus battery it has no way of knowing it’s overweight and needs to broadcast remote id. Dji wants to make sure no one is breaking the law, and it’s a win for them as well they can sell more of their own batteries. Just my two cents.
lol that’s a good possibility and I really appreciate you sharing that info. That’s a good possibility and I wanted to test this battery to see if the drone could emit the RID signal. BUT of course I don’t have the proper phone to use the drone scanner app with a Wi-Fi based rid system. There’s always a problem with a We’re the Roberts test. Hahaha. Thanks so much for watching!! Good bless
There shouldn’t even be the possibility of remote ID in this drone.
Don’t want anyone breaking the law, so just make just about every decision for you? That is called communism. No suprise being Chinese owned. They are the only drone company that completely controls your every move. You don’t actually own it, they do.
I totally agree, rid is complete government overreach
But... Dji is not my daddy, I have mini 3 pro and I like to keep up on the mini 4 pro as it's kinda my next affordable upgrade performance wise. All things considered it looks great but I don't understand why they bricked $100 of folks hard earned fiat which is very Mau Ze Tah of them if ya catch my personal opinion. Great test review app review thanks for this, GOD bless.
How does this drone do with wind resistance?
Awesome question, buddy. So far I’ve had no issues with wind and we’ve flown in some really good gusts. It’s definitely not perfect and it seems to move around a lot in the wind more than the mini 2 does. But the footage is always great so the gimbal is doing its job. Thanks for watching and commenting!!! God bless
Hey Kevin, do you own a mini 3 or 3pro?
Unfortunately no we don’t have the 3. Boooo!! lol. I think there may be a chance these batteries would still work on the 3 but I can’t test it. We’re working on it though. lol
@@WeretheRoberts ahh worth a shot...
Will that controller work with a mini 2 ?
Hey, Robert. Thanks for watching and commenting, buddy. No this controller won’t work with a mini 2. It’s the RC2 controller and so far it only works with the Mini 4 pro and the Air 3.
I wonder if the 3rd party company that makes the battery will have some kind of update where you can flash it from the drone.
Awesome point here, buddy I reached out to them and let them know just In case they hadn’t been informed yet. I’m still waiting on a reply. Someone else was mentioning it’s only a matter of time before someone comes up with a hack to get around it. Lol. No doubt in my mind. Haha
What about the mini 3 will that battery also not work in the mini 3?
That’s a great question, man! I don’t have a Mini 3 pro to test out but we’re working on finding out the answer. I believe it was due to the firmware update and not the fly app so there’s a chance the Mini 3 would be ok. BUT, big but, if they are limiting the Mini 4 pro, my bet is they’re seriously considering all the drones. Maybe not the mini 2 though. Lol
@@WeretheRoberts yeah I agree it's probably the same for the mini 3
What is the after market battery please
This is the Power Extra Pro battery and they still sell it on Amazon. I contacted the company who sent it for the review and let them know what’s going on with it but I haven’t heard back yet. It’s listed as a mini 3 Pro / Mini 4 pro battery so there’s a chance it may could possibly still work on the mini 3 pro. I have no way to test it but I think it was the mini 4 firmware update that did us in here. DJI probably did that battery ban though across the board so I wouldn’t recommend buying one. Boooo!!! lol. Thanks so much for watching and commenting , Tony. God bless!
Hi noticed you don't flip your antenna's out, this surely won't help your signal etc.
lol yea I forget those dang antennas more often than I remember. The controller cover I put on there hides them so I don’t even think about them. Fortunately it hasn’t seemed to inhibit the signal for me yet but then again I don’t fly too far away from the homepoint normally
I am curious. I have the Mini 3. I have the same update #, but my non oem battery is working. It shows the battery charge count and got it from Ali. Why is mine working?
That’s a great question, Phillip. I think the battery was disabled due to a firmware update on the Mini 4 and not the fly app update. I’d be cautious updating the Mini 3 firmware in the future because they may work the same battery disabling feature in that one, too. lol.
@@WeretheRoberts On your non OEM battery, can you see the battery count before?
@@philipchong6273 no I checked for that last time I tried to use it and it didn’t display that info. They really screwed us. lol
@@philipchong6273oh sorry I misread that. I was able to see the battery count before the update disabled the battery yes, but now it’s not there.
@@WeretheRoberts I shall see for my Mini 3 later. Yes it's a sad day. ☹️
Thanks 🙏 the info 👍🏽
Awesome! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. God bless you guys.
Thanks. I was thinking about buying a third party battery to save a little money, sure glad I watched your video first.
Awesome! I’m glad you were able to save that money. It’s pretty dirty to me for DJI to ban these batteries and I really feel bad for those guys who spent hard earned money on them just to have them disabled. We were fortunate that it was a sample for a review. These things aren’t cheap! lol
My non oem battery is working fine on my Mini 3, same firmware number.
Good video as always
Thanks, buddy! How’d you like Kristi’s involuntarily cameos? Haha
Your wife popping in and out was funny. The color looked greenish, but it’s really hard to tell w/o knowing what the actual colors were.
lol yea I thought that was hilarious, too. I couldn’t quit laughing when I figured out how to do that and all she could do when I showed her was smile and shake her head. I’m not sure if she really approved but she didn’t say no. Hahaha. Yea those colors were weird. I guess what happened was it reset itself to pro mode after the update and I didn’t realize it. I normally use auto mode because I’m not well versed with the camera stuff. Auto is my friend. Hahaha.
Thanks for the warning
Hahaha. No problem, brother. Hope Texas is giving you more relief from the heat than Florida is for us. It’s gonna be high 90s all week!!! Yuck!
I’m glad I’m not the only person who ALWAYS puts their battery in upside down.
Hahahaha. Every time man. It never fails. I’m also the guy who can’t seem to plug an iPhone cord in the right way the first time either. 50/50 shot and I get it wrong every time. Lol
Every single time. I hope to figure it out someday.
Just checked and battery plus is DJI brand, good video.
Oh wow so DJI is making aftermarket batteries, too? They definitely have a lot of control; eh? I’ve not had any negative personal experiences with DJI and have heard their customer service is unbelievable. My only issue with them is they could leave it up to the customer if they wanna use aftermarket stuff. Anyway, just my opinion. Lol. Thanks for watching!!! God bless.
Man, that's pretty dirty that DJI won't let you use a non-DJI battery. HP is doing the same thing with their printers. They won't let you print with anybody else's ink brand. Sorry about all your troubles updating, but good thing Nobby Green came to the rescue. And a hi to Kristi that you snuck in there a couple of times. Good to see her, even if she is just a photo planted in there. Good tests Kev. Interesting conversation with the fisherman too. Hahaha
Lol yea man this was a really interesting day. It seemed to keep going and going. Haha. You can’t tell me that fisherman didn’t know that sign was there. He’s not a very good actor. Lol. I seriously couldn’t stop laughing when I figured out how to put Kristi in this video. Hilarious!!!
Why is the compass so shaky?
I have no idea why the compass did that, man. I didn’t even notice until you and a couple others mentioned it. I just went out and retested the compass and the follow up video will be posted next Monday. Thanks for pointing it out. We may not be impressed with the follow up results. Lol
Is anyone having issues with quick transfer on the Mini 4 pro? Its getting to the point that walking to a computer and connecting via usb is easier.
Mine is super dodgy, always failing to load albums on wireless connection. Its very frustrating, my Avata 2 transfer works fine though.
Hey Brandon! I haven’t heard of anyone saying they’re having problems with the quick transfer and honestly it’s something I’ve not really used. Definitely keep us in the loop if you find a solution though. Thanks for watching and commenting, buddy. God bless.
@@WeretheRoberts restarting the aircraft and reconnecting gets me in.
But it's very annoying and not something I had to do when I bought it. The album fails to load literally every single time I connect if I don't restart the drone first.
Hello just to let you know DJI Fly app 1.13.4 on RC controller using the Air 2s the compass is steady, so the issue is more related to the app and the Mini 3 Pro.
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. I’m beginning to think the compass jitter is normal but I’m definitely gonna be testing a further to try and nail it down. This could take a couple years. Hahaha.
If you use DJI assistant 2 you can change the battery to non-DJI and it will work, you have to enter developer mode to do it.
Lol. I’ll leave that to the pros.
That confirms it , I am not updating, I would rather lose any new function than lose use of my extra batteries
Yea I hear that. A lot of people are saying these aftermarket batteries can damage the drone or immediately drop in power and cause a crash. So far my experience with this battery was awesome and I didn’t have any issues. I’m assuming DJI is just trying to keep the competition away from their drones but they want to hide behind the “safety concerns”. lol.
It would not be so bad if DJI sold the larger battery in the UK but they will only send the small capacity ones in the UK dont know if it is the same in the EU ?
That’s a great point, too. I wonder why they don’t allow you guys there to buy the plus batteries. Really strange, eh? I was fortunate when I ordered the mini 4 pro. I accidentally ordered the plus batteries. lol I’m glad I made that mistake now but it took me almost 6 months to figure that out. Hahaha
My mini 3 pro will not go over 1500 feet before It loses signal now.And I don't know what is going on.Because i'm flying in the same's Place I fly all the time
Oh wow that sucks!!! I’ve not experienced any signal problems with the Mini 4 pro or the Mini 2. Well, I’ve not updated the Mini 2 yet but I doubt there will be any issues. You may want to contact DJI and see if they can give you some direction. Maybe something internally came loose in the drone or controller? I wouldn’t know what to look for. Keep us in the loop though when you get it sorted out. I’d be interested to know what the deal is.
I sure will. I'm going to do another test flight and see how it goes
I think DJI did this to prevent use of aftermarket batteries to void warranty just like aftermarket drone apps.
What about the people that get their drones used without a warranty, or if your warranty no longer applies?
@@JuanRamirez-bj6qe I'm pretty sure someone will make a hack to use the aftermarket batteries. If it has to do with electronics and apps somebody is bound to do it.
If they did it because of the warranty stuff I totally understand. It’s their way to cover themselves I reckon, eh? I agree with Juan, too. It should be our option. I really feel bad for the guys who paid money for the aftermarket paper weights. At least they still work in the charger. I used it to charge my phone the other day. Lol. It’s not totally useless anyway.
I have a 3rd party battery for my mini 2. I wonder if the same thing will happen. I just updated the fly app this morning. OH NO... LOL
Lol my bet is you’re gonna be safe, Bob. I think the thing that messed up these batteries on the 4 pro was the firmware update. Problem is I couldn’t just update the fly app with the RC2. I had to do the firmware first then it revealed the fly app update. Either way it’s a bummer. I don’t think the Mini 2 will have anymore firmware updates so you should be good. Please let us know how it works out though. I’d be really interested to hear. Thanks for watching!!!!
@WeretheRoberts Got it! Thx! I haven't tried it yet but thought it might have been the fly app update. Good to know! I will keep you informed. Thx bud...
Love the General Lee cap.
Hahaha. Man I’ve been a Dukes fan ever since I could walk. Kristi got me that hat a few years ago and it’s been in every video since. Lol. Thanks for watching!!!
looks like th UAV Forecast app nailed the # of sat compared to AirData... ouch
Lol. Let’s keep that between us. We don’t wanna give UAV forecast any credit to continue behaving they way it does now. Haha.
The compass seems jittery to me it shouldn't be doing that I suppose.
Oh I didn’t even notice that until I saw your comment. I’m thinking maybe it had something to do with the way I had it set. I normally have it set with the homepoint at the center but it must’ve gotten changed after the update. I missed a bunch of settings here!!!! Lol. The pro settings also made the colors way off. I’m usually in auto mode because I have no idea what I’m doing with camera settings. Lol.
a rant it is...especially if you have the refresh...not risking my drone(s) for another battery
Short rant. lol. Yea I’ve seen several comments saying the same and I agree. It’s a different story though if you don’t have care/refresh or you’re not worried about the warranty, eh? U had no problems with this battery when it was able to be used but I’ve read some horror stories. lol.
I would do the updates where the internet is stable, like at home.
Yea I agree. We live in the boonies and our cell service is pretty spotty. If I realized it was such a big update I probably would’ve done it at home from the beginning. lol. Live and learn I reckon, eh?
Kevin - This may sound selfish but I'm glad you, Nobby, Shawn, etc. take the risks of bravely updating brand new firmware & the Fly app then report back to us the good, bad, & the ugly before we make the mistake. My question is, is this no-aftermarket-battery change 'courtesy' of the M4P firmware, or the app?
Firmware.
Hahahaha. Not selfish at all, Jimbo. Like I said, Shaun the drone wasn’t wrong when he said I normally wait, too. Lol. I agree with paradox here about it being more than likely the firmware. Only issue I have is in order to get the 1.13.4 fly app uploaded I had to install the firmware first. Lol. I was screwed from the beginning!!! Haha
I was waiting to see something like that happen with the aftermarket batteries. It's a shame DJI is keeping the proprietary requirement and I can speculate on the rationale behind it. Alan - Layla's dad.
Lol yea I guess you’re right. I can see where they’re coming from but I really do feel bad for the guys who pent money on these batteries and can’t use them now. Fortunately there’s still a use for the battery though. It charges in the charge station and I used it to charge my phone after making this video. Lol. Anyway, I wasn’t sure if you saw your email yet but I sent you something really special. Hahaha. God bless!!!
Self discharge? All my Dji drones don’t have that feature including my mini 4 pro
They do.
Try not using your batteries for a month. They're smart batteries so they'll discharge by themselves
Yea these guys are right. It’s part of a safety feature so they don’t sit there fully charged for too long and heat up and CABLOOEY!!! however it’s spelled. Lol. I can charge mine up to 100% and if they set for 3 or 4 days they start to deplete. I think they only get down to 70% at the most though so even if they’re not topped off there’s plenty of power to have some fun.
@@dauielim2399 i’ve been in the hobby a long time I never fully charge batteries unless I plan to use them although my mini four has been sitting fully charged for over a week and it’s still charged… 🤷🏼♂️
@@WeretheRoberts first of all batteries won’t explode sitting, it’s when you improperly charge them, look at all LiPo fires…
That guy either thought you was FWC, or was practicing what to say to them when they showed up. If he can speak english, he can read the sign. Oh, good to see Kristy with you this time, of sorts.
Lol no kidding. He totally knew they were in the wrong and Kristi said he was looking to get my permission so he could say someone else told him it was ok if the law arrived. I’ve seen fwc there before but I don’t know exactly if they enforce that legally installed sign by the county. It’s funny how people just scoff that type of thing off. I remember just a few months ago there was a group fishing from a canoe there and it capsized. 2 of them drowned and the whole area was closed off for a few days while FWC investigated. I guess the law is a suggestion to a lot of people. Lol. Anyway, Kristi startled me showing up like she did. Hahaha
To be fair: anyone who got the aftermarket batteries is ASKING for trouble.. That is like going to walmart for tires on a super car.. PLUS DJI will not warranty nor dji care a drone used with different batteries.. That is like LIEING to your insurance company only for them to deny the claim for your house burning down..
On the other hand, pretty sour of DJI to not allow USAGE of aftermarket parts..
To note: in the DJI logs they can even tell if you are using aftermarket blades.. Cuz ya they've seen it all, and it wouldn't be hard to notice higher RPMs etc..
I like my Mini 3. It does all I need it to.
Lol I understand where you’re coming from and have heard they won’t cover the drones if you’re using aftermarket parts. It’s just a shame they disabled the batteries sort of without any warning. It’s amazing what new technology can do and how much control they have over what a consumer does, eh? Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Well, maybe when DJI is completely banned in the States they might want think about changing their tune a little bit.
Dang I pray that don’t happen. We’ll see soon, eh?
I have to say that I'm really disappointed that you said you were still going to do a lot of videos with the Mini 2, but it's all pretty much been the mini 4 ones......
Yea I know and I’m disappointed lately, too. Mondays video is both the 4 and the 2 at least. These updates DJI keeps putting out are killing me!!! I will do better in the future and thanks so much for hanging in there. :)
Never upgrade or upgrade your firmware in the field! Do it as close to your best router.
Good tip, buddy. We don’t have a router at home and rely on our hot spot. Fortunately the hot a lot at home has a little better of a signal than our phone does at this spot. lol.
1.13.5 is out now.
lol of course it is!! Hahaha. I updated the mini 4 pro this morning and it seemed the exact same, eh? I have no real idea what they’ve fixed this time. lol. Seems like they like to justify their jobs by releasing unneeded updates. Hahaha.
Don’t think you had your antenna folded out.
Lol good catch. I seem to forget those darn antennas more often than I remember. That controller shade I have attached hides them from me so I don’t even think about it. Haha. Anyway, I guess it proves even more the signal is great since I still didn’t lose any bars, eh?
Fly app update vs. Aircraft firmware update...
Yea I think it’s really the firmware here. Unfortunately for me I had to install the firmware first before I could get to the fly app update. Lol. They had me from the beginning!!!
No thanks to DJI, the Fly App shows whoever might be watching that the bigger battery is in and therefore over 250g and requires a Remote ID module.
The mini 4 pro emits remote ID if you use the larger battery
Lol they’ve got everything covered! We can’t get away with anything anymore! Haha. If only our favorite hobby was fishing I hear you can fish pretty much anywhere. Even when there’s a sign that says no fishing. Hahahaha.
DJI is another Monopoly based ecosystem with its pros and cons like any other. From the standpoint of support, it really is a good idea for a system with so many features and functions. The downsides are obvious.
Lol that’s totally true. I was mentioning to someone else they’re like the phone and electric companies around here. No competition!!! Haha.
I will NEVER use anything other than a DJI battery in any of my DJI drones. They clearly tell you this. Same with using a third party battery charger. You are taking a big risk with mid air flight issues. I’ve heard situations where the battery went from 50% to 12% because the battery was charged in a non DJI charger that didn’t have the intelligent flight battery firmware.
Yea I’ve heard some stories like that, too. Fortunately I’ve never experienced anything similar to that with this battery. The company who sells the battery says to not do the DJI drone firmware updates using these batteries but it doesn’t say why. My thought was it wasn’t a smart battery but it seems to act like it’s got the intelligent features built in like self discharge and overcharge protection. I can appreciate anyone being hesitant to use an aftermarket battery but I really do think DJI should let the customer make that decision. If it voids the care/refresh I’d say that’s a good reason to avoid it but if you don’t have that and the warranty is expired I’d go for it.
Battery update on the way 😅
Lol no kidding!!! They’ll probably make their own batteries disabled until you do their battery update, too. Hahaha
What a bummer Kevin.
Lol yea it’s a total bummer but at least it’s not totally useless. I was telling someone else it still charges in the charging box and I used it to charge my phone the other day. Sort of a back up battery back up, eh? Lol
5 BLUE WHALES and i got a NOT LOG IN SCREEN.....WTF
Dang! I’ve not gotten that screen on the Mini 4 pro but I have seen it on the Mini 2 before. Were you able to log back in?
@@WeretheRoberts i had to Call DJI.
Not thrilled. Love this camera. I have phantom 3/4 and mavic. The mini 4 pro does EVERYTHING better
Was that guy fishing an illegal lol ?
lol of course! Thanks for watching, man. That’s hilarious
Your flight is not part107 compliant using standard battery. All commercial flights must transmit RID. All drones that are registered or need to be registered must transmit RID. The mini 4 pro does not transmit RID using the standard battery, because for many pilots it does not need to since it is under 250g. It will only transmit RID using the Plus battery. For flights that require RID (commercial flights, any flight if the drone is registered or is required to be registered), when using the standard battery you must also add an external RID device, or must use the Plus battery. Recreational pilots who have not registered the drone can fly with the standard battery, and are not required to transmit RID. DJI did not ban anything. They are just producing a recreational drone for the recreational sub 250g market. To convert this drone to commercial, one must get a remote ID device or use the Plus battery. If a recreational pilot has registered the drone, they either must always use Plus battery, or unregister the drone, or add a RID device. The fact that an aftermarket knockoff battery does not allow the drone to detect the need to transmit RID or not is not a ban, but a lack of compatibility with the DJI drone’s requirements.
Wow, I can definitely appreciate the time you took to inform me of this information and your explanation of the FAA regulations is 100% accurate. However, the first sentence of your exposition is incorrect as my flights with the DJI mini 4 pro have been in compliance with part 107 from the first time I flew it commercially. I only fly with the plus batteries and this aftermarket battery was a plus battery as well. Again thank you for taking the time to explain the rules as it was very easy to read and comprehend. I hope you at least enjoyed the video. Have a great week and God bless! Kevin
lol I see your edit on the first line so now it’s accurate. Lol. But I just wanted to let you know I do use the plus batteries. I’m all compliant and legal. Lol
Didn't know your wife had teleporting capabilities. Cool.
Hahahahaha. Me either! Man I couldn’t stop laughing when I figured out how to do that. All she could do when I showed her was grin and shake her head. It was priceless.
Competition is a crazy thing and they don't want any.
Yes and no. LiIon batteries are no joke, and many 3rd party batteries are a major liability. I don't blame DJI for locking out questionable batteries. They can't guarantee the quality or performance, and frankly, neither can you. If 3rd knock-offs were actually quality and not junk, maybe the situation would be different, but as with many after-market parts, the quality is non-existent.
Lol I think you’re both absolutely right here for sure. Competition brings out the best but sometimes the worst, eh? Personally I’ve never had any problems with any of these types of batteries but I’ve definitely seen videos on the topic. I don’t want any part of a battery explosion or fire. We did have a laptop computer battery swell on us last year and it totally messed up our computer. The keyboard, mouse, Wi-Fi…. It was all screwed up and we couldn’t figure out the problem. Until one day Kristi decided to take it apart and found the battery was totally distorted. It could’ve been bad I reckon but again she saved my life. Lol. Thanks for watching and commenting, guys. God bless!
Not all batteries are created equal
Lol I guess that’s the case. Someone mentioned it’s just a matter of time before someone comes up with a hack to get around it. Hahaha. That won’t be me. I break stuff. Lol
@@WeretheRoberts you bought $1000 DJI why by an off brand battery just to save a buck and risk 1000, don’t make a lot of sense
YOU ARE DAD-GUM Amazing! I WISH I HAD ONE TENTH OF YOUR TALENT. But, something was freaking me out. This really hot entity kept appearing and disappearing and reappearing! It was a woman! And she was smiling, with pearly white's the whole time! (Dont tell my wife I said your entity was hot. I'll be in soooo much trouble)! AND,... YOU ALMOST LOST YOUR LANDING PAD! Those Chi-Comm's don't like the freedom of choosing your battery manufacturer. It's got to be Trump's fault lol. This video has got to be in your top five greatest videos. And you are smok'n this channel. CZcams is making some dough off you. Advertisements up the Ying Yang. " Ying Yang"... I think that👍👍!
Hahaha. I’m sure wife will be embarrassed when she reads this but that’s hilarious!!! Lol. I have a feeling she’ll be making more “appearances” in the future. We’ll see how creative we can get. Lol. When I showed her what I did there all she could do was grin and shake her head. Makes me laugh every time I think about it. I got flustered man and forgot that landing pad. I was glad it survived that dude running right over top of it. Seriously as soon as I stopped to get it, he swerved over and bath driver side tires went right over it. It was lying in the road flat otherwise it would’ve been destroyed. I edited out the names I called him. Haha. Anyway, as always thanks for watching and for your sense of humor. This was an experience that didn’t seem like it was ever gonna end. Sorry it was 17 minutes long but it was actually a 5 hour ordeal! Lol
clearly you are not using check lists
lol why do you say that?
DJI- Never update
Haven’t you said that before? Lol. Thanks for watching, buddy. These updates can be weird sometimes.
@@WeretheRoberts simple truths are worth repeating
I’m sure people can make batteries as good or better than DJI seems like more Chinese commi mentality right there just a bunch of control freaks over there
That’s a great point, man. DJI is like the phone and electric companies around here. They don’t want no competition lol.
Thanks for the test! No update for me. Protensic is looking mighty appealing about now. 🫤
Only turn on your rc2. Connect to your home wifi. Go to profile, then settings (do not check for updates here), then scroll down to "about", select about and then check for updates. This is a fly app update, not an aircraft firmware update.
Lol it’s definitely irritating that the battery don’t work anymore but I really think it’s the firmware update not the fly app update. Christian is right here for sure. I think my main issue was I had to install the firmware update before it found the fly app update so once the firmware was updated, it was too late for the battery to work anymore. If that makes sense. Lol. Anyway, the battery isn’t a total loss at least. It still charges in the charger and I used it to charge my phone after this video. Lol
