    Deltarune Chapter 2 has hinted that Ralsei might not be all that he seems. What is Ralsei hiding from us? From the battle with Queen, to the Roaring, Snowgrave, and to the aftermath of the secret Spamton NEO fight... Ralsei has been acting very strange. In this Deltarune Chapter 2 theory we will be predicting what Deltarune's major twist will be as time goes on, and ultimately, why Ralsei will eventually betray Kris and Susie.

      I can see Ralsei betraying them or rather the player for the weird route actions. You take away recruits, use violence instead of kindness, and you desire the suffering of Darkners instead of peaceful lives. I think that warrants Ralsei's betrayal as he'll feel threatened to protect the dark world.

      Well, the concept of "darkners being sentient or aware of the light world" differs from one darkner to another. In case of the main villains, King and Queen took the information of the light world from the knight and used it for their evil plans, so we already know they're evil even if their motives don't appear to be evil. In case of the secret bosses, you can see that Jevil and Spamton were normal darkners with high ambitions who suddenly got bombarded with the information and the self awareness that they became mad because of it. Ralsei's case is a bit more complicated though, because he's our loyal companion that's been along with us the whole time that when he starts talking about light world stuff, we can't help but think he's shady. There's also a thing that many people forget which is the scene of Kris and Ralsei in the boat when Ralsei talks about his journey of befriending his teammates and talks about Kris and Susie's traits and personalities, but then he starts questioning his own personality saying that he doesn't know what being "Ralsei-like" is. In my opinion, Ralsei has some sort of identity crisis where he doesn't fit with his lightner teammates and doesn't really fit with the other darkners either, which makes his whole character feel a bit off.

    I get the impression that Ralsei is the Sans of deltarune, on the surface he comes across as a lovable goofball, but deep down he's freaking out because he knows things that he shouldn't know. When we beat Spamton Kris is shaken up because he knows he is just like Spamton, a puppet, and when we cut Spamton's strings to set him free he just falls to the ground and breaks, at this point he can't exist as anything more than a puppet, Susie doesn't know why Kris is so upset, but I guarantee Ralsei does. I think the reason why Ralsei tries so hard to get Kris to move along is because he knows that if he keeps thinking about it he will end up just like Spamton, driven insane looking for a way out

A certain vessel is created for the regeneration of this God’s damaged soul, and gets stronger and stronger until the god can be recreated. Also, 'If you don’t do THIS, then Titans will awaken!' is a major plot line in both games, lol. There are also those who secretly work for the god, trying to move the narrative forward until the god returns.

    My guess is that , yes, Ralsei WILL betray the player.
    Not Kris, not Susie.
    Just the player.
    Ralsei is aware of the entity controlling Kris, and the first chance Ralsei gets, he will use a spell that will remove the bond between Kris and the Player.
    (I would name the spell: Marionette Remover)
    Afterwards, it is up to us to use our discarded vessel to find Kris, Susie, and Ralsei so we can either apologize to or kill them.
    However, instead of the same buttons we used for Kris, we instead have:
    Fight, Speak, Heal, Execute, and Threaten
    fight is the same.
    Speak options: *Plead, Fake sob, flirt, insult, flatter*
    Heal options: *you eat food and you heal twice as much as you would with Kris, Ralsei, and Susie*
    Execute: this replaces the 'SPARE' button. an enemy has to be downed. If you use this on a downed enemy, THEY DIE.
    Threaten: you just threaten the enemy.
    Idk why I went and did this but now I'm tempted to write this down in my journal.

    The only way Ralsei could betray his heroes is if they (and/or the player) threaten his vision of the future. Heroes and villains are a matter of perspective, and goatboy seems really deluded about how things are playing out.
    We already saw this with Lancer in ch 1 and Spamton in the ch 2 Snowgrave route. They thought they were our ally until they realized we were too big of a threat to their goals. We also brainwashed Noelle into believing we are helping her, despite her being as disposable as any other character.
    My point is that we are so obsessed over making Ralsei look like a dark lord, that we are avoiding the better question of whether the relationship is more toxic than helpful, and if he is simply withholding information.

    The one thing that puzzled me somewhat was that when Ralsei does the “let’s focus on Susie” thing, where the player focuses on Susie and not on Kris. Every time we return to Kris, Ralsei was speaking to kris (and not the player) and the player only ever catches“...and that’s why”.
    I’ve thought about “...and that’s why”. that’s what you say when you’re justifying something to someone else. For example: “I had to call a cab because my car broke down, so that’s why”. The phrase normally comes after a “because” statement.
    So if I understand this; Ralsei sends the player’s focus away from Kris, he then speaks to Kris alone, and he says something that probably justifies his strange behavior to Kris.
    I believe Ralsei is telling Kris his true motives while they’re alone. I think the conversation went something like “I need you (Kris) to make a new dark fountain. Without a new one, the player has no reason to come back (to deltarune). I need you to make new ones because otherwise I will be all alone, so that’s why.”
    If Ralsei was as evil as Flowey, I don’t think he would encourage you to spare enemies the way he does. I think he’s trying to give the player a reason to stay even if it means temporarily shifting the balance of light and dark.
    I think the reason he does this behind the players back is because he isn’t sure how the player would react to this revelation.
    Remember how much he said he missed Kris and Susie when they first returned to castle town in chapter 2, despite only being gone for less than 24 hours since the end of chapter 1. I think he really doesn’t like to be alone. But that’s just my speculation.

      The only real problem with that theory is that there's some evidence that Kris doesn't like Ralsei, or at least not as much as the SOUL wants to like Ralsei. He gives weird looks when Susie asks him questions and he replies with Ralsei-based answers (like "Who do you want to take to the festival?" he gives a confused-sounding statement if you were to answer Noelle or Ralsei) and the Teas, which seem to be a reflection as to what you think of the person whose flavor Tea you're drinking (Kris heals a lot more from Susie Tea compared to Ralsei Tea). I DO believe Ralsei is telling Kris stuff he doesn't want the SOUL to know, but it isn't to make more fountains so Ralsei can't be alone.

    • @videogameepicfails
      @videogameepicfails Před 2 lety +59

Kris could simply be interested in having adventures with Susie and nothing more. But regardless, without a new fountain, there is no adventure. From Kris’s perspective, there would be mutual gain in creating new fountains.
      Something I just though about thats a bit off subject, if Spamton was defeated by cutting off his strings, shouldn’t Kris ripping the player’s Soul out have the same result. Cutting a puppet’s strings is separating the will from the body, much like Kris removing the Soul. So shouldn’t Kris logically end up like spamton NEO after the boss fight?

Remember out of all the characters, Kris isn't shocked when he hears about the roaring, he looks like he's already heard about it.
      I really think Ralsei is aware of the players ability to control things, so he is trying his best to seclude the player when he's spilling beans about the prophecy to Kris. He's probably not aware Kris is the Knight though.

      I have a theory
      This connects to matpats chapter one theory
      In his theory, he says that the dark worlds are creations of kris's mind to run away from their problems, like the divorce, or being the only human in town and not fitting in, or asriel, his best bro (literally), leaving
      In his theory he said that the knight is Asriel, wich is the fear in kris's mind of Asriel being different, fearing that his brother is different ( i think tough that the knight is kris himself, tryng to run away in the most ways possibile, but that isn't dispriving the theory at all)
      In the theory, matpat also says that Ralsei is a projection of what kris saw asriel when they were both kids, and played in the dark world togheter, reason why he knows so much stuff, he's a projection of a memory (same reason of him not being "stoned".... I'm not sorry)
      This probably means that Ralsei started existing once the dark world opened, and being the only one who continued existing since he's an imaginary lightner probably
      I think that what he's hiding upstairs, the thing he hides, is that he's not gonna live trough, and tryng to find a "cure" to that
      Since he's a reflection of Asriel, maybe as soon as the real Asriel comes back, he's gone, the lie is gone
      Maybe his "Betrayal" is him tryng to keep kris in to save his world (since probably that world is gonna be gone with Ralsei too, because "the lies are over")
      *Ralsei's betrayal is him tryng to save his world by keeping you in it*
      While there are a bunch of things that i still can't explain, this is my theory

    Personally, I believe that the Ralsei-Fountain is the TRUE fountain, while the others were 'accidents'. How else would you explain the fact that all the recruits didn't turn to stone when they got to castle town? This also explains how Ralsei manages to survive in the other world, and also how he was the single 'survivor' in Castle Town, as simply the Lancer dark world was sealed, not the Ralsei one. The fact that Ralsei seems to know a lot about the Dark World enforces this theory, as he may have learnt a lot of it from his past subjects or maybe his family, though we know basically nothing about that. Also, Ralsei (and a few other people) mention about the SAVE file, and the controls. This might also be because Ralsei mentions in the Ch1 King fight that "We're supposed to keep Lightners happy". The Darkners could maybe know about these game mechanics, so they could help the Lightners. We'll just have to wait for Chapter 3, 4 and 5 I guess.

    @aurafox1 Před 2 lety +3

    From a narrative perspective, I think the events of Chapter 1 heavily foreshadow what's to come. Especially the disembodied dialogue in the intro as you create your vessel and the like.
    Your choices don't matter.
    It was a heavy theme throughout the first game. Yet suddenly, in Ch. 2, our choices seem to have weight again. Killing enemies means they can't be brought to our town, we get to customize who is in the café...
    Ch. 1 seemed to undermine everything about the original Undertale. It didn't matter how horrible you tried to be. The ending was always the same and nothing in the world changed. It was only after Kris removed his soul that things started to stray.
    I think the overarching story of Deltarune will reflect this same idea but in a more twisted way. Your choices aren't going to matter. Not because the world doesn't change, but because Kris won't let you make them anymore.
    While playing through Ch. 2, one of the biggest things on my mind is that Kris... is a character just like anyone else here. But he's not described pleasantly at all. He's a weird kid, a creepy kid, he studied the occult, and let's not forget the birdcage with the... stain... next to it in his room.
    At the end of both of these chapters, Kris breaks free from your control and forcibly (painfully), rips his "soul" from his body and hides it where it can't escape.
    After the fact, he does sinister things. We don't know what he was up to in Ch. 1, but Ch. 2 seems to imply he's the one who created the dark fountain in the library, and this will be further supported if Ch. 3 features a dark fountain inside Kris' home. This on its own might not seem too bad, but his behavior seems more sinister when you consider that he slashes Toriel's tires on his own as well. For what purpose? Maybe he wants Toriel to stay home in the next chapter, or maybe this is a warning of things to come? Either way, this isn't just some petty crime. He seems to go to great lengths and through great pain to do it.
    It's possible he's the villain he's being built up to be, or it's possible the dark face and the sinister grin are just big red herrings playing into villain tropes the way Asgore was built up in Undertale. But either way, Kris is definitely trying to rebel against the player, and I imagine "his" soul, his "[[HeartShapedObject]]" is part of how he's being controlled.
    I think the game is going to progress in a way that antagonizes the player. All of Kris' friends are... Kris' friends. And they'll support him because he's him. Even if it means fighting against YOU.
    Perhaps that's the conflict Asriel is going to struggle with in all of this. He knows what's going on but doesn't know where his loyalties should lie. This might paint him as a villain for a while.

    One thing to note is Ralsei did help us during post spamton, the whole "imagine something else, something you like, something soft" while repeating that everything is fine is a method to help people who are experiencing panic attacks. Keeping them focused on one thing and assuring them everything will be fine allows a mind to refocus and calm down
    While yes, Ralsei may be tricking them to ignore Spamton, it very well could be something done for good. Theoretically speaking Ralsei doesn't know what is going on with Spamton, would it really be a good idea to try and focus on it, on what seems like a corrupted program while a friend is in panic? Very well the situation may not have been gaslighting but a diffusal method meant to make sure they don't drive Kris into a further panic, after all some issues are best dealt with when you have a clearer mind

    My theory: ralsei is representative of kris mental baggage, hence his similarity to asriel (and his name being the obvious anagram)
    Ralsei fits into other dark worlds because, so long as kris is there, he fits there.
    the object he could pottential come from is Kris' knife, though that is of course not completely plausible.
    I think the specification of EXACTLY where the room is is probably just a game design thing incase someone somehow hasnt played ch1 before ch2 (since that is a possibility that can be accounted for)
    for the rest of the stuff relating to the prophecy, we need more information to judge, and using the limited info to say that ralsei IS a villain, or has bad intent, is jumping the gun a little. potentially what his plan with the village might be is to create a place where darkners can all live (hence the fountain that allows that being there) without having so many dark worlds that the roaring occurs, a significantly more benevolent, and just as likely, possibility

    Something I haven’t seen anyone talk about yet that eludes to Ralsei knowing everything occurs in the Snowgrave route in Chapter 2. When you’re in Queen’s castle towards the end of the chapter, the party eventually finds Noelle’s room and Susie insists on checking in on her. In the normal route, you actually go inside and the scene plays out from there, but in Snowgrave Kris opts to stay outside, which prompts Ralsei to say some really weird stuff. I can’t remember the dialogue specifically, but almost as soon as Susie closes the door, Ralsei asks Kris how they think they’re doing. In this chain of dialogue, Ralsei reminds himself that it’s only been a couple of seconds, and after a very long pause, seems confused as to why the screen hasn’t faded to black yet.

    When it comes to Kris and the Player’s relationships both parties are in a position that they did not intend to be in, you did not choose to by controlling Kris, and Kris did not choose for you to be controlling them. So the main dilemma is trying to find a solution that is good for both parties, and letting Kris make all of their own decisions might not be the best thing for us to do in regards to their wellbeing. Free will is fine and dandy, and it’s wonderful, but Kris has been shown to repeatedly do some prettt awful things when not under our control. Which is why we as the Player should work to put them in as good a position as possible to succeed with their goals, independent if that is exactly what they want. This includes doing things they do not like or would not do, such as hugging Ralsei, but also allowing them to do what they want like saying no after the Spamton NEO fight. This body is theirs, but the everything is also dependent on us as well. We should treat it well, but not let it harm us or itself until we can find a way to either finish the entire story or be able to leave an inhabit our own vessel while returning Kris to the state they were in prior to our forceful introduction.
    We also have to think that the player isn’t free either, you cannot make decisions beyond those that are given to you. When Kris is asked if they are okay after the NEO fight you have two options. That’s it. That is a false dilemma set up for you when there are trillions of options available in that situation for how to respond. Just as Kris is a puppet guided by your strings, you are a puppet guided by the strings of not just whatever forced you into Kris’ body but also the very code of the game. Every game ends the same way, with the player and the main character splitting up. You always put down the controller and leave, and that character exists to do whatever it might wish in its own story devoid of your presence. The same will happen for this game. We just have to make sure when we do put down the controller everything is in order within the given illusion of choice we are set with.
    Kris wants us out, we want us out, we both would benefit from finding a way to do that that doesn’t harm either.

But when you finished and get back to Ralsei and Kris, every time it seems like both had a conversation together that we did not hear. It feels like Ralsei just distracted the player for a short while.
    It's very possible that Ralsei will make a move to confront the player at some point. However, I don't like the fact that WE as the player are seen as evil. The player wanted to live in that world full of nostalgic characters that were their friends in another world. The player doesn't play the game for cruel intentions only. Remember that we, as the player, got forced into Kris without a choice by someone that greeted us in the beginning of the first chapter.
    I really really want to see the twist that the world of deltarune will realize the existence of the player and react to it. They could confront the player but they shouldn't see the player as outright evil, especially if you did the Pacifist Route through and through.

    @saltsnow6153 Před 2 lety +2

    I just thought of something that would tie up a few loose ends at the same time (among smth you've already brought up): what if the full legend Ralsei knows foretells about Kris breaking away from soul and bringing the end themself? This would explain exactly why Ralsei doesn't want to volunteer a full version of the legend-he's trying to change this prophesy, to not let it come true. Like, if we don't know the full version of the prophesy, then, from our perspective, it wasn't prophesized, and we still can act in a way that'll avert the worst case scenario.
    This would also kinda explain why we catch Ralsei telling smth fishy to Kris when they're all alone-he's telling smth to Kris that would, supposedly, help Ralsei save the world and Kris.
    And it's interesting that the background lyrics in BIG SHOT say that 'I can't talk to you till you're all alone'. Maybe those lyrics talk about the player being away, and Kris (possibly, the one who the full legend directly affects) being all alone-so we, as an acting force, were not aware of the info that would negatively influence how we act. But Kris, if they are aware of the situation they're in, could construct the environment in a way that would make the player naturally act in a helpful way. And, since we are always in the dark world when Suzie's with us as well, Ralsei gets the opportunity to talk to Kris 'all alone' by redirecting our attention away to Suzie.
    In contrast, when we do the Weird route, we never get to zoom away, thus Ralsei doesn't get a chance to strategize with Kris 'all alone'.
    Additionally, maybe the legend Ralsei, supposedly, always knew-he'd heard it from the same someone who visited Jevil and Spamton. This someone could've also told about certain game mechanics and stuff, so Ralsei would definitely know more than he's letting on, but he feels like he can't be forthcoming about how he obtained this knowledge and the full extent of it. What if being honest about it to us or Kris would make us distrust him? Or maybe it would bring forth the end of the world, and Ralsei feel the responsibility to stop it. Since it seems like that someone shares only a fraction of information with whoever they meet, Ralsei might act in a way that he thinks is the most efficient one to avoid the end, but, in fact, he is manipulated into doing the exact opposite without realizing it (by having access only to partial information).
    This idea would explain why Ralsei's so reluctant to talk about Spamton-he knows exactly what was going on with Spamton and who's responsible. But he doesn't feel like he can be honest about it to not foil his own plan to save the world.

  • @TeamBaconUK
    @TeamBaconUK Před 2 lety +4

    I've just thought up a theory almost purely encapsulated by the theme of 'your choices don't matter'. It's easy to think that the meat begins at chapter 2, but that original theme still runs through Deltarune, especially with the lighteners. Many of the characters feel like they have no choice or that they can't effect the world around them. Until they meet Kris and the Dark world. Susie is poor and sturggles with people, but having the adventure with Kris has given her a lot of spirit. Noelle feels hopeless in her shyness, feeling like she can't do any good for herself or others, she gets pushed around by birdly, nervous with her crush Susie and can't help her Dad. Even Birdly is kind of stuck in this smart kid persona that he's infringed upon himself because he feels the need to be the smartest, there's no other choice. Maybe Toriel feels there's no choice in terms of her broken relationships. Alphys has no choice but to waste away in depression. Or something like that. Until Kris enlightens them by taking them to a dark world where people have autonomy. The Chaos King doesn't have to bend to your pacifist will. The only main character who can't be positively influenced by Kris right now is Asriel...
    Okay this is where the theory becomes even more of a stretch but... chapter 7, ending, Asriel comes back, and is completely warped in his morals, maybe connected to Rasleis weird behaviour. He becomes a boss, the first and only battle to take place in the light world. And Kris starts off completely weak as he only has pencils and chalk. But he is either 1: emboldened by his friends who he has helped out realising their potential and eventually helps out Asriel. Or 2: Is emboldened by the way he has made others around him stronger. And uses their powers to defeat Asriel. Killing them by the power of the once innocent Noelle's ice, and their mother's flames and the Strength of Susie or something like that. See Kris in all this shows no signs of realising his choices and effects on the world. He is a blank slate and is at the mercy by the players choice. Will the players try their hardest to spare and better the lives of those around Kris, giving him a purpose, or will the player make Kris succumb to his inferiority complex, and make him command others to break any sense of hope and freedom he can muster.
    This probably won't happen 1:1, I'm not that clever but there's some things there im pretty confident about. I'm sure its gonna be a big deal when there's a battle in the light world (if there is). And i do think the theme of "Do choices matter" is still a theme Toby has in mind.

    It makes sense that ralsei is nervous infront of the player because he knows that you have the power to do ANYTHING to him. so he tries to play it cool until he has the best chance to fight you. he knows that kris is not the person doing all of this. in fact, he’s even nice and kind to susie when they’re not around since he’s also aware that your soul is connected to her as seen from chapter 1, so he knows you have the option to listen to all of them, even though that didn’t happen. ralsei is very similar to asriel, and asriel is flowey as seen from the undertale lore. flowey knows everything and remembers everything too, except when you true reset. the only difference is that ralsei can definitely remember what you did after the erasing of a SAVE file, but just acts like he just met kris to keep the information he has to use in the future, ralsei is the only one who knows the legend, so he must’ve made it up to jebait us into a trap to remove the dirtyness (you) from kris’s soul. he has no intent to hurt you, but seems to be forced to so kris can be saved by the bad actions he does because of you, the player, the one clicking the buttons, living in a light world and knows specifically where to go. so that means ralsei set up deltarune as a trap, toby never wanted to create another game. it was all ralsei. there’s huge proof that ralsei lied about being the prince of the darkness when lancer is the REAL prince as he’s the king’s son, but ralsei… ralsei is related to no one in the game but asriel, meaning that asriel may appear later in deltarune. but that’s not related. what I’m saying is that ralsei doesn’t have anything in common with the dark world but could be a GOD of darkness, and maybe could even be a titan that emerged from a fountain. that’s how he’s compatible with more than one dark world. The forcing people to live in town:
    Ralsei wants to keep the light-dark balance and you have to close the fountains to do that, which kills ppl, ralsei is being a good boi and inviting them to move into their world to survive.

    I've always hated theories where the main reasoning for looking into it is "it would make a cool narrative", aside from that.
    Something to note is that Jevil also hints to the roaring in his dialogue, meaning it really isn't just ralsei who knows.
    As many people have mentioned before, ralsei is made out of "pure darkness" (much like his dark fountain) and thus just needs darkness to sustain his form, not a specific kind of darkness like most others.
    As for ralsei knowing about things outside the dark world.. well, the same applies to most of the characters in the chapter 2 dark world, there is some way to obtain outside information, be it through computers or books / files, after all, the pure dark world *is* located within a school storage closet, meaning its entirely possible ralsei's knowledge is from stuff in that closet.
    A lot of stuff *seems* weird, but a lot of it is easily explained by just looking a little farther.

    I'm only at 6:52 and I haven't played the game yet, but I have a theory. What if there is only 1 dark world open at a time, while ralsei uses the great door to get to, and since it's in between dark worlds, on top of him being able to move between other dark worlds, characters like Queen from the cyber dark world can still live in his kingdom, while if a character like lancer went to another dark world, he turned to stone.

  • @Alphard72
    @Alphard72 Před 2 lety +241

    In a way, of all the characters in Undertale, Ralsei has the most ties to Flowey out of everyone. Both have connections to Asriel, though we don't really know what the full extent of what that is in Delta Rune yet. But furthermore, and more importantly, both are the only characters to possess meta knowledge. Ralsei has certainly been more subtle about it than Flowey, but as mentioned Ralsei understands and speaks openly about game mechanics and seems to be attempting to steer the game a certain way. And it sure seems suspicious that his goal seems to be to dissolve all dark worlds and plug all dark fountains, except for his own. We have seen his castle town grow, but we are not permitted to see all of it. He has his own room, but we're not allowed to see it. And there's a locked door right in the center of it all, presumably leading towards his dark fountain, a fountain he can never allow us, the players, to reach.
    Ralsei's friendly, cuddly exterior may be his true personality, but I also wonder if it might be a weapon. Us, the players, are the biggest wild cards in these worlds. The characters of Undertale, especially Flowey, have tried many ways to influence the choices we make that have drastic consequences on their worlds. Perhaps Ralsei has a different strategy, to win us over, to get us, the players, to love Ralsei, to not even dream of suspecting the dear sweet goat boy. And so he is cute. He is kind. And he is always very, very, careful to be subtle in his use of meta knowledge, not to arouse our suspicions. To win our hearts so that we choose to help him out without thinking too hard about it.
    It may not satisfy Occam's Razor, but I really don't expect mere 2D Chess from Toby Fox.

      Whoaaa...wait I honestly really like this idea for one sole reason. It'd be "payback" for the "dark routes" we take. If every chapter after 2 has a "dark route", where we control another to do something terrible, Ralsei could be that final check, that last one that had turned out to be controlling US the entire time. To "help" him out.
