There's an old dev saying that goes something like "Players will always optimize the fun out of a game." It's not just Call of Duty, it's not even just competitive games.
It's called speed running. In games like this, optimization should be more about strategy and skill, and less about "which gun is the best". Competitive games need to follow a "paper, rock scissors" ideology, or we all start to sound like FEZ (hope you get the reference).
what that saying means is that players will make their own fun. A gamer of any game no matter how bad or good it is can make it fun.
@@kazkatgamer6722 No, it doesn’t mean that at all. It means that players gravitate to the safest, least risky strategies and make them dominant, drowning out all other options.
People like to feel better than other people. So if they identify what's superior that's all they use. They're in it for the destination not the journey
Sadly, they are often in it for no good destination thanks to sbmm and being a "pro" is very far and few in between.
exactly... Gaming has emerged as the exclusive outlet for individuals to find personal fulfillment. In the real world, despite their best efforts, it is exceedingly difficult for most people to achieve a satisfactory standard of living. This challenge is exacerbated by the prevalence of social media, where others can flaunt their high quality of life, further intensifying feelings of dissatisfaction and inadequacy.
@@laujeffrey couldn't have said it better myself Jordan Peterson! 👏
People also get complacent and cant move on and love dominating in a game theyre comfortable with. I played titanfall 2 for years and probably 4 years ago i used to run into this person destroying everyone with a meta car and only the meta car. Like 3 years later i ran into the same person doing the exact same thing. I was like wow you really dont play with anything else. Im not saying that person isnt good st the game but it says alot about someone when they use the same gun years on end.
How fast does an RPG kill though is the real question?
Like 2 minutes if they have EOD
@@ReaperKezianot direct impact😂
@@samw2431that’s why he said two minutes because nobody that uses an rpg can aim it that well that’s why they’re using it
@@fuzionhypernot what i was saying but thanks for clarifying something i already understood 👍

11:30 got some Tenacious D energy up in here!
Epic rap battles of history!
Marksman’s I will survive freestyle 😂🤣😂🤣🐐
I think SBMM has definitely had the biggest effect on why people don’t diversify and have more fun anymore. There’s always people that will optimize everything all the time but the SBMM has made some more of the competent but diverse players feel like if they aren’t using the best then they just won’t do as good and have as much fun.
Honestly, I’ve thought about this a LOT. I think back to BO1 and how everyone used literally every single gun. It was the only game where I distinctly can remember using each gun. It was so diverse and there was balance. From the Famas and Galil to the G11 and Uzi. I don’t really remember riding a particular gun but the ARs were faves for sure
That extra 8% matters alot against sweats, this is further increased with ping.
People fighting sweats by being sweats is literally the problem 😂 just an mcw breeding ground.
@i_inf0din254 yeah, that's what happens. Nobody has fun losing. So what do they do? They put on an MCW and then the other players start to put on an MCW until the entire lobby has that gun and then play the next several games with an MCW already on. It's a back and forth cycle that will never stop unless every gun is just broken to the point it doesn't matter what you use.
@@Divine-General-Mahoraga I personally prefer using harder to use weapons. I care less about winning and more about enjoying the game. Sure dying to the same couple guns is lame but killing a lobby with a shitty cool gun is way better than killing a lobby with the same boring gun over and over.
@@i_inf0din254 I personally prefer.. not playing cod 😭. Same sh1t different toilet yk but go off king
@@Divine-General-Mahoraga lmao I only play when I feel like numbing my brain for an hour 🤣 otherwise there are much better games out there lol
I think a lot of the problem stems from the matchmaking. as you do better and better in the game, and get more "equal" skill lobbies, the way to perform better for most is to use the best guns in the game, which means less variety especially at the higher end. if SBMM was tuned way down you'd see a lot more variety. thats not the case for all, there's still going to be people using the meta, but the pressure to get better performing games would ease off, and i think you'd see a lot of people switching it up.
Another thing that is neglected is streaming/social media. Before people would play the game and try out different things and have to figure it out on their own or see what other people used to find out what they enjoyed.
The setups that would get really popular were the ones shown in montages. Now it's just streamer/viral video uses X so now I need to use X to be as good as them.
There's also too many games such that people can't see the point in investing time in to unlock stuff. If I can get wins and unlock things with the easy gun then why bother with the harder weapon if the result is the same.
Not just a COD thing either, any game had the issue
I can mostly agree with this. My experience is from Resurgence, but to your point, Lockdown in MW2 was alot looser on the SBMM, so most players used it for leveling guns. Nowadays, for me at least, seems MW3 tightened the SBMM even in Lockdown so I went from using whatever gun to having to use meta when playing for kills. It makes working to level guns much more difficult.
A sweat is a sweat. The only way your statement holds true is if the other players are so bad you can dominate with a lesser weapon because at the end of the day you want to get the highest KD more than you want to use other guns.

- “that was a nasty little ace right there”
1st play next game 🤣🤣
That transition was hilarious
😂😂😂
The MCW meatriding is crazy in this game.
The MCW has relatively bad ttk if you don't get the headshot. The MTZ556 has a significantly better ttk of 296ms to 370ms vs. 336ms to 504ms.
I think you would see other ARs if they were allowed in ranked, though the MCW is exceptionally easy to control, which counts for a lot.
All of the ARs are very good, especially if you allow the full range of attachments.
facts on the ranked comment. If MCW wasnt the only ar in ranked, heck if it was out of ranked, we'd see less of it cause the "sweats" would be forced to used other guns.
That remix was LOVELY. I need a full version.
Honestly I’ve used the MTZ since day one, I’ve always liked it more than MCW, I feel like the MCW fire rate is too slow, idk maybe in my head, but MTZ is always my go to, and the buff that lowered the initial gun kick has made a significant difference, I love it
1000% the MTZ is my most used weapon by FAR 😂 so much more enjoyable to use IMO and it hits hard..
Same here, MTZ since day 1. Now when I sometimes try the MCW it feels awkward because it has literally no recoil.
I love the coms vest because of the mini map shrinking so you can see more
I think a major thing that has changed cod is that when I was growing up in the early 2000s, I started on Cod 1 finest hour and me and my friends played cod bc as kids we always thought army stuff was cool, I think our generation played cod bc of the cool factor, the fun factor, and immersion factor... Now literally everybody wants to be a wannabe tiktok/twitch/youtuber and sweats their asses off trying for that 20 kill game every single match.
I picked up cod on the PS2 with big red one forever ago and it’s crazy how much the series has changed. Couldn’t be more spot on with everyone wanting to be a CZcamsr/streamer/tiktok dunce the comment either. Literally everyone is the exact same player and it’s so fucking stale.
Good gameplay and good analysis on the current gaming scene! I don’t game anymore for that reason but love your content Mark!❤
Mtz has been my fav for awhile!! Its so good 👏🏻
This conversation is hilarious because in the Old School RuneScape community it’s very similar. Everything is about max efficiency.
I think it’s mainly the drive to be the best and recognition, it started with pro gaming and CZcamsrs showing the casual players what the best thing to use is. Now all that everyone wants to do is be competitive and the only way to do that is use the best stuff, no drive to have fun anymore
Its matchmaking. I see at least 4 mtz 556s a game
Exactly bro, I see at least one or two of em in every lobby lol
Must be nice. I’m only a 1.6kd player and might play twice a week and all I get are MCW meat sweats lobby after lobby. Literally makes me want to give the shit up for good every time I get on but because it’s all my homies play I still get sucked into it every time lol.
@Chattsteezy my kd atm is 1.2. I get a bit more variety sometimes but i feel that on the mcw shit
@@Chattsteezyi have a 3.4 KD in vanguard and the matchmaking is so much stronger in mw3 since that was the next cod i moved to. I just started but sitting at 1.8 currently and it’s wild. Same KD in mw19 was no where near as bad.
I dunno if you've seen it already but there's a great piece done by FoldingIdeas called Why It's Rude to Suck at Warcraft (It's a bit lengthy at 1.5 hours, so be forewarned) where he goes into how gaming culture has changed from having fun to hyper optimizing competitive strategies.
Weapon variety is the best way to stay out of sweaty lobbies. I love that you recognize that and play with the weird stuff.
It absolutely is not. It doesn’t help, I use any and everything I find fun or enjoyable and still get put in lobbys of the ranked misfits that were trash at real ranked so they bring it to pubs and foam at the mouth for corner sitting and mcw/rival gameplay. You might get lucky and have a few fun games while using a variety but heaven forbid you have that one good game then it’s wannabe ranked bums throating their mic playing like they’re on meth
That's definitely not true. SBMM will punish you for using variety weapons.
@@iamtcolee the visuals of this got me 😂
I agree. I like to use a lot of guns and have fun. Right now I’m having a blast with the haymakers aftermarket conversion kit. And the tyr with the conversion kit 😂😂
Nightly routine of marksman. 🐐
We love a Marksman live commentary
I love the MTZ-556. It's fun to build it for really good aim walking speed and strafe like crazy in gunfights.
Honestly it’s the people. They complain/kick when you don’t use certain weapons in helldivers. In mortal Kombat it’s the same 3 characters people play as. In fortnite it’s the same load out. Its 100% the community. You could argue developers could put something in the game to help counteract but I have a feeling it will always be the players. Everyone wants to win/be the best.
Marksman I enjoy watching your vids you are The Goat
I’ll never forget last week when I was trying the AMP for the Haymaker on a War match, I kept making a CDL MCW user angry af every time I killed him. Man was keyboarding every insult in the chat lol!
So much for trying new things in the game…and on War where stats don’t even count 😂
Let’s goooo marksman upload
It’s a culmination of all of what you were talking about!!!
I quite like the dual sense edge for what I need it for not to bad frees my thumbs up so I can jump and crouch while turning
Legit my favorite gun! Unique and fun, but still good🙏🏼
I think it’s the access to the internet, people don’t want to think for themselves and just look to see what is the best and then that’s all they use
Great rate of fire, fast reload. Smooth animations good ammo capacity options i love it
Even if SBMM was removed people would still be sweaty and use the best guns because that's the COD culture now. 100+ guns in the game and people use only a handful.
Marksmans debut album will be released with the next Call Of Duty along with one and only one gun in the entire game..."The Marksman Dissapointer" assault rifle.
I don’t get why everyone in the cod community doesn’t like change anymore.
Ive loved the mtz 556 since the beginning wasn't ever the best but it's satisfying to use
A video about the luck of game style diversity and he starts "who uses stun mines?" 😅😅😅
I love you bro
Stun mine isn’t a gun and it’s not very useful tho, like a claymore, or betty I get but the stun mine just not quite there. I’ve tried using em for videos combined with C4 or Betties for instant kills, still not great tho
I feel you man on your argument. You’re typically only going to see people use the MCW over and over which seems to make adding other guns pointless. Even the dlc guns that have been added have been really good to use and can compete with the MCW. But yet all you see are MCW and if not WSP Swarm and Rival 9. I love using the Mtz, pkm, wsp 9 and a few others I like to rotate them every game.
I miss watching bro during quarantine
I love the MTZ it reminds me of the weapon from cod ghosts
The mtz is my favorite gun besides snipers, definitely my go to when I need to do well
My friends and I used to spam the RAAL in OG Rebirth and it was some of the funnest times we've had. Gun sucked but damn was it cool
MW19 was the last COD I was able to make “interesting” loadouts and actually have fun. Even though the AS VAL was a plague for a while and still is, once it died down a little, I was able to have fun again. People make it their life’s goal to be the best at COD and nothing else in life. Lol that’s why I always swerved towards BF3,BF4, and BF1 cause you could use any gun and have a blast; mostly.
Inmw2019, the gun name wasn't in the killcam so people would always be confused about what gun I had. The amount of incorrect answers was insane. People really only use the meta or the one gun they found was easy/fun for them.
Nah some big streamer says this is the meta and the people follow and so on, instead of having fun
I came for the gameplay I stayed for the improv songs great video
That Ping wheel in WZ2 used to have me offline for a while. I couldn’t do anything with that wheel
I miss the weapon variety that was in bo2. You had the try hard guns but almost all of them were usable
I just got to lvl 100 and throughout all lvls (even at lvls 1-50+) I was playing against lvl 200-400+ players with fully maxed out guns and stuff. It was so annoying.
I stopped playing a few weeks ago. But I really miss the Kilo from MW2019. I also have a MTZ 762 with a flamethrower attachment for the riot shield users. It's my new favorite gun.
idk how good it will work but the c4 trick in vanguard with the mines that made it insta blow up works with stun mines and prox mine if you wanna give that a try for a video and run demo vest to resuply
Now I wanna see what you can do running RPGs.
The thing is the mtz kills faster without the headshots, but the mcw needs just one headshot to reduce the number of shots to kill down to 4.
i usually use guns in fps games based on how cool they look. for example i’ve never played the newest cod but i would use the uzi because it looks so cool. and probably a silenced pistol because i like being sneaky. which is probably the reason im not good at cod because it feels like you have to be running around 1000mph to be good or get kills lol
why i play hardcore. you can use pretty much any gun
I’m greatful to watch you play cod but it is your job and you are really good at it. When you use different guns you are still good where the average player is not. To to have fun and not die all the time the little advantage better guns give you it’s worth just using them if it means you can enjoy the game and not die constantly. Just my opinion different perspective think of it as and average person not someone of your caliber. Love the video I hope you feel all better!!
Honestly its gotten to a point where Im done with gettin the all the camos on Zombies and now I wanna go for Interstellar but I have no urge to do the MCW cause of how dominant it is
I don't get how people use the same weapons every game. They pay $70 to use one or two guns the whole year
Same old marksman. Fantastic, entertaining and very helpful videos. Destroys a team all game but dies once and leaves! Very funny.
I feel like it’s a combination of matchmaking and CDL cause people are gonna use what the pros use
I have fun playing kbm snipers only but try hards hard scope with a longbow iron sight
You nailed it. It's both the players and sbmm. Because matches are not randomized , everyone looks for whatever edge they can get to have a good match. As you said, you know what you're up against when in the upper echelon. Less restrictive sbmm would make more people willing to experiment more. I don't care about stats so i just have fun. I do understand why things are the way they are. Thus, i stay away from ranked, but i also use k/m.. i can play both but i like to be in control. Learn from my mistakes and get better.
Matchmaking has everything to do with it.
You can play solo drop 16-5 and the next match. You are paired up with all randoms not even a 2 stack.
Than you have a 6 stack of pc longbow users, mcw, or R9s.
You carry but than your team leaves.
Its a fun game. There is variety.
But the lobbies are filled with longbows or mcws.
The survive freestyle lol
MTZ has been my favorite AR since the game came out.
I've been playing Helldivers for the last few weeks though. Such a breath of fresh air not having to play this sweaty toxic ass game lol
Love the vids.
me still using the taq v cause I just like the way it looks and sounds lol
I like the mtz, i think gun aesthetic is a big deal but not sure
I was just using the mtz last night. It's a great gun! While I go against mcw's, rival 9's or wsp wasp's. Fun! 😂 Nobody wants to use different guns anymore. I don't understand.
The MTZ-556 is literally an MCW with a more consistent and slightly better ttk with possibly a minimal range difference. The recoil is extremely similar after the buff.
Not to mention ppl on social media makes videos about the “optimal class setup.”
I use the MTZ more than any other gun by far and I have since launch. It just feels so much better to me than the MCW or any other gun for that matter
They should make cod with one weapon but change the one weapon every week so no one gets tired of that weapon fast
When you want to answer the questions in the video about Gaming & Culture, but it turns into an essay, so you delete it and move to the next video...
Both MTZs are great (assault rifle and battle rifle).I see people use them regularly. I do see a lot more people using MCWs though.
Marksman…you should equip the Lanchmann Shroud. You can fire the bursts quickly and you can strafe very fast. Even with zero attachments it’s still really good
I've been using the TAQ Eradicator, it just reminds me of the Scar-H from BO2 so much. I love both of these guns, honestly with the 45 mag and with the attachments I've got on it. I really can feel satisfied with it, I also hate the MCW with it. Just having it in my hands, it feels so slow firing rate wise and I can never just get enough to get a confirmed kill. MTZ is my pick.
The TAQ Eradicator is based on the HAMR, which was basically just the SCAR but in LMG form. It even has the same "first several shots fire faster" trait that the HAMR had in BO2.
17:07 you hit all body shots and he hit all head shots I think
The goat!
19:09 welp taught me sum
If only there was no sbmm there'd be more fun lobbies if only we had a system like where you could stay in the same lobby imagine how crazy that would be.
MCW has a headshot multiplier that can give it a near unbeatable TTK. RAM-7 is the only other AR that has a headshot multiplier good enough to lower the TTK/shots to kill. That’s why people use the MCW so much. Lol they might not know that is the reason but they do know it can kill super fast
Fun fact. MTZ kills like 296ms iirc, while the MCW kills in like 320ms. But the MCW get a ttk reduction off of 1 headshot and it has easier recoil, so that’s all people care about.
MTZ kills far faster at long range though, cuz it only drops off to 6 shots to kill while MCW drops off to 7 shots and the MTZ has a faster fire rate so each one of its drops is less of a drop than the MCW’s.
It's unsurprising when the majority of pvp games people try to find the "meta" as fast as possible and then suddenly it becomes adopted by everyone and then the game no longer becomes fun as everyone uses the same most optimal weapons, equipment etc
That's the sbmm at play. Nobody wants to shift from meta
I play shipment to unlock stuff and level things up and people are still running shotguns and MCWs that are maxed out and got final camos ….
I see this all the time when I wanna chill and get drunk but everyone god damn match it’s at least 4 MCW and the game seems more like a job
I mean I'm a pretty casual player so only play every few days or so and I'm going for interstellar. I've found so many guns that I like and don't understand how people can just use the same guns that they have since launch!
I think it’s the direct consequence of sbmm. If I were to play against myself, one version of me having an mcw and one having an sva, the mcw would usually one. The closer you are in skill level, the more the advantage of the best weapon matters. The prisoners dilemma always applies to the best gun in the game, but it’s way worse when skill level is closer
Titanfall 2 has no sbmm and people use 6 guns even though the game has like 35 guns. Its an fps try hard problem and its existed for years and years. Also when new people start playing the game and die to the same 6 guns every game they assume thats what they should use as well. Titanfall 2 has projectile weapons and shotguns and grenadier weapons and noone uses them. You die to ARs and smgs all game every game.
Black ops 2 was a game that catered for everyone. Back then I was using reg guns, qucikscoping, camping with shotguns and riot shields, trickshoting, ninja defusing using every single gun that the game provided and I swear them days are dead and gone. 😢
The game finds everyone who is sweaty and uses meta and put them all together
I’ve been using the mtz556 since launch it’s my most used gun in the game I hardly ever touch the mcw
I think the matchmaking system is the number one reason people don't play for fun. I love using off-meta classes and mixing things up, but in the most recent CODs I get punished into the ground every time I do because I'm playing above to well-above average players every match. Knowing that I'll do significantly worse using off-meta stuff it forces me back to the same old classes. When a whole community runs into the same issue, its no wonder the top half of the skill bracket is afraid to branch out.
Wasn’t the wheel for kill streaks in black ops 4 too though?
1:24 Solid nade!
Playing sweaty seems like it has became a natural way of gameplay for players to me. If that’s the way they play the moment they load into their first match then that’s what’s casual for them even though it doesn’t seem casual for me.
You know it’s a great day when you see a noti from @Immarksman 😊
That rap song went hard.
