Bob Symes was a real Gentleman . I believe He was of Aristocracy , perhaps Austrian ? He knew his stuff and was a very clear communicator . Sadly and badly missed.
Great programme. I remember watching some of Bob Symes' other programmes on television. This is later than the 70s though. Going by the BR sector liveries on some of the locos and stock puts it around the mid 80s. Thanks for sharing.
Briiliant. There are 3 films in total, this "How to build a model Railway", "A linside look at Model Railways" and "Another Lineside look at Model Railways". Also worth looking out for is "Model World"- 3 parts to railways and all are/were available on CZcams. RIP Bob Symes. Legend.
This was filmed during the early 1980's, judging by the woman controlling a layout using a Hornby Zero One 1st generation DCC system, right at the beginning. Hornby's Zero One DCC system was produced between 1979 & 1986, with many modeller, like myself, still running this pioneering DCC system globally
Hey. You really have to be careful when saying something is rare or lost. I for one have a copy of this film. I recorded it on VHS long ago when I had cable TV. I still watch it occasionally. Robert Symes-Schutzmann to give him his full title, made many films right up until near his death. the last film I saw was made for the Ger]man market. He was after all an Austrian Count.

Amen to that bro

Fleischmann N Profi-track back in its heyday and a lot of Hornby Minitrix and Graham Farish stock
Model Railroading is Like An Oversized Art Project But it’s Worth Doin.

The late, great Bob Symes in his element, as ever.
Glad you enjoyed
watched this VHS loads as a child, pretty sure they’re still kicking around somewhere
Hard to come across I think I got lucky finding it

Cheers il have to have a look, be great if they are out there
Search for "Bob Symes" on CZcams - I think they're all there - though not all under their original titles.
I love this, It's almost a Harry Enfield Mr Cholmondley-Warner and Greyson and skit :)
It was fun to watch
Always Remember this. measure 2 cut 1.
it took me ages but this must be N or maybe TT gauge.
I think it's N gauge but still a really good introduction into model railways

If you have it recorded on VHS then it's safe to say it's probably lost to most of us since this may never get rerun on TV.
Always Take Pride In model Railroading and Yes You Are the Biggest Crittic of the Layout And That is The Truth.
Glad you enjoyed
Audio is very quiet, hard to hear even on full volume 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah I thinks it a recording from VHS so has had no enhancement.
Good video though, just had to run it via a stand alone BT speaker.
Yes, I have seen this recently too, maybe it's part of a four part series with Bob Symes that I have called "Model World", I'll check...
Cool be good to see if there is more
That Looked Like the Proper Height.👍😊
Building A RailRoad is Exciting passionately Fun And Should Never Be Rushed.slow And Easy.
Good tip there
Where'd you find this at
Lucky find I guess
Which year is this from? He seems like the sort of guy you'd want to lead you into battle.
This is from 1970s bud that's about as accurate I can be 👍
Mid 1980s. The BR sector liveries on the models put it around that time - the Intercity executive liveried HST etc.
Robert Alexander Baron Schutzmann von Schutzmansdorff. Austrian aristocracy, but a true gentleman and a scholar.
@@Beatlefan67 Austrian? I hope he wasn't forced to bat for the other side?
It needs converting to the correct video ratio, probably 4:3
I`ve got all of these on dvd, I think there were 3 or 4 videos
Only just found this definitely worth a share,, 😁 no copyright either lmao
