- Sealed Transfer - Fermentasaurus - Fermzilla - Fermenter King JR
See the transfer happens as the beer gets moved in an oxygen-free sealed transfer between two see-through vessels. In this example, I'm using the Fermzilla 27 liter and The 20-liter Fermenter King Junior. But the same applies To a Cornelius keg or any other pressurized vessels. Like Fermentasaurus, SS Brewtech Unitank and more.

I thought, "This is a good one, I'll give it a 'like'". Then I realised I have liked it once before...
...In one ear and out the other...
Maybe a comment and a like can count as a double like
I love how you can see how full the keg is and weather or not it is frothing up! Never been able to do that in my corny kegs!
It's a new level of control. Amazing!
Brilliant, thanks Doc.
Thanks Clive!
Your fast becoming my favourite brew channel 👍
Glad to hear that, thank you so much!
Fantastic, I dont even drink as I said to you before, but your videos and audio and framing are just getting better and better and better sir....keep it up!!!
Thanks buddy!
You helped me so much, thanks for making great content
Glad to hear that. Consider supporting on Patreon to help me continue this journey.
Great! I just did it a few times in the keg and works fine. Thank you.
But recently I think it is a worthy approach only to fermentasaurus due the hard way to take the lid off.
The kegs are easy to take the lid off and put the solution into them. Also you can leave co2 on during procedure.
Excellent content, Dr. Hans...I recently built a keezer and the fermenter jr looks like an awesome addition...love the gelatine transfer - that's something I've not done yet...your method looks quick, clean and sanitary. Looking forward to future videos - Merry Christmas!
Thanks, glad you liked it. Merry Christmas!
Great job. Thanks
Thanks!
Sjukt intressant och underhållande, keep it coming ^^
Tackar!
Awesome video!
Thank you so much
Looks great, thanks, my Scandinavian buddy.
god jul
Thanks! God jul!
Good stuff! I do the transfer the same way.
Thanks buddy!
I even use the pressure in the fermenter to push my starsan out of the keg and to purge oxygen from the keg. I just plan ahead, so that the pressure in the fermenter builds back up.
That’s good planning!
Awesome stuff!! I just want that keg!! 😜👍🍺
You just want the beer!
This way beyond my level. But, as it is with brewing, I'm always learning something.
Hopefully you learned something from the video.
Nice vídeo thanks for share, is amazing the Orange color in the last Beer, that recipe is? Do You have in this channel?
Great video DR! I can’t wait for them kegs to get into the U.K.
Every day I check the king keg site to see when they will be available in the uk, they seem to be dragging there heals a bit
Dan Crawford
Well I’d definitely be interested in a few tbh? I’ll keep my eyes open.
@@James-sf5bb me too maybe 3 or 4, these old style plastic kegs are too problematic, and the corni kegs are over priced I think
Dan I actually have 5 cornie kegs 4 of which were new and 1 reconditioned. Yes they are expensive admittedly, but they’ll last a lifetime. As for these plastic one, it’d be great to see the beer clearing and obviously a lot easier to fill, due to being able to see how far it is up whilst enclosed transfer
@Will Fiala naked keg in scotland will stock them I'm sure, he was the only place i could find who stocked the fermzilla ,email neil@nakedkeg.com,
Better use syphone gravity pipe and transfer from FV to BBT. You can add pressure by submersible pump use and PRV close up bleeding up technique.....
Cool video! Like your videos about pressure fermenters! Would you recommend d snub nose or the fermzilla 27? Cheers!
If you do t have a good reason for a collection jar. I would go for the snub nose or the all rounder
Watching this on the back deck, 42oc but only 12% humidity so not too bad.
That's hot!
I like your attitude, don't over complicate it. Like I say, give a hard job to a lazy man and he'll find an easier way to do it! =)
Cheers!
Yes!
The small pet bottle (gelatine) is a great idea! If after tasting i wanted more hops i could add a hop tea using that method ?
Yes 👍
Do you have a link for the mini regulator shown in this video?
Have you ever tried to add gelatin through the trub jar at the bottom of the fermzilla as you would for dry hops?
Nope. But I've tried putting it in an empty keg and rack the beer on top of it. That worked.
You should have a AW (after work) for friends and neighboors as a direct stream some time!
Sounds like a party to me!
Good job. I liked this video. It only takes a few minutes to get a skunky beer from the sunshine, you must get some sun sometimes?
Yes of course we do. I was only joking. This time of year though it feels that way. In the northern part of Sweden they actually have no daylight at all this time of year. Here in the Stockholm area we have som light in the middle of the day. Where do you live? You must live closer to the equator than I do.
@@DrHansBrewery We live just South of Lake Superior in NW Wisconsin.
I read an online "article" about the oxygen removal from a keg and it indeed confirmed that purging an empty keg wastes co2 hundreds of liters and the purging via removing the liquid takes only 20 liters. An interesting pickup from the article was that if you rout the co2 from the fermenter through the keg it purges it as well (or better if there is some sanitizer solution left in a steel keg for example) as the liquid purging method so just a tip if you want to try. Just attach the spundit to the keg gas out. 1.050 beer fermenting to 1.010 creates around 440 liters of co2 and with math on the safe side it leaves 5ppb (1:1000000000) O2 content to the keg when directed throug the keg through the whole fermentation process.
Also a question about the closed transfer via gravity you mentioned. I thought that it would be the most economical and easy way but do you have any idea how much more longer does it take to fill a keg? Atleast it would be safe as no liquid would go through the spunding valve and possibly to the pressure gage if left unattended.
I would like to see this to happen! It would be an awesome experiment to have a small (2l) keg last in the CO2 link with some sort of oxygen meter. That way you 100% sure that there is no oxygen left in the previous vessels. In this link you can find information about different CO2 purge methods (must read): www.lowoxygenbrewing.com/brewing-methods/kegging-care-guide-purging-transferring-stabilizing-finished-beer/
@@aasiaasi this is the link I was referring to and the math gives very low numbers based on simple physics so in any case even with some standard deviation the oxygen level would be very low in the keg receiving the co2 from fermentation process. Actually with spunding valve without a pressurw gauge like the kegland blowtie you could calibrate the spunding valve with meter and then remove the meter and fill the first keg with star san solution and dump the star san through the spunding valve to a second keg which after full would just bubble the extra CO2. Then you would get best of both worlds by emptying a keg full of star san and then continuing the purging and when next keg in line is full, you could just disconnect and save the sanitizing solution. So many possibilities!
Do you have a video on how one might bottle glas bottles with a bottling wand from a fermzilla?
I think there are many new brewers that want to fermrnt under presure but dont have the space for a keg.
czcams.com/video/jd31jsPGjaw/video.htmlsi=QMAtkkOYVyFlEiGG
Can I ask how long you leave your cleaning solution in the pump sprayer for? I use starsan if that makes any difference. I have just ordered a similar setup! What a brilliant idea! Thanks
Until it's used. Just keep on filling it up.
You can use star san multiple times as long as it's clear and the ph is correct.
Is the Spundit setup better than the plastic blowtie setup (have you tried? ) for pressure fermenting/transferring? in your opinion
I would recommend the spundit
Next video please show how clear it got with gelantine. Tack
I'll see what I can do Marko!
DrHans Brewery what is inner diameter of your beerline? I see that it is thinner then I use. And next video idea is about beerline management. 😀

I will waste a lot more!!!!!
Hi does the fermzilla all rounder fit in a normal under counter fridge.
FZ allrounder with Spundit about 63cm. Fermentasaurus snub nose with spundit about 71cm. Hope it helps!
Hi DrHans, at what pressures do you ferment lagers at? I from Australia and it is hot, 40c. I am looking at getting a Fermemtasaurus but have not been able to find info on pressure to temp.
Thank you Ron
I usually start at 18c for lagers. 40c sounds like a good experiment 🤣🍻
@@DrHansBrewery I use a fridge and brew at 16c in a normal fermenter but I have heard that PF can get the same results at higher temps, which is better in my conditions.
@@ronaldwoodhouse7262 yes you've heard right.
Gelatin should ,not be used with boiling water but warm water, not over 70C if I remember correctly the temp.
Those rules are made for what? Baking?
I've heard the same thing but if it works as good not sticking to the rules...
@@DrHansBrewery why bother boiling the water when 60-70C is enough. It seems the gelatine has some kind of denaturation at higher temps.
You Boil it so it’s sterile
@@liamwindsor5854 It's already sterilized by fabrication process m8!
When you put the Gelatin in why not put the Gelatin into the keg, purge the keg then Transfer to the keg?
You can do that if you want!
Can you explain the small pink bottle? It doesn't even look like it is built for pressure, looks more like a drink bottle, and yet it seems to absorb 20L of CO2 no problem, with a pressure lower than the other two kegs? How is this possible? Or is it just venting the CO2, in which case, what's the purpose? I think you called it a 'thermometer' at some point?
It's called a Fermonitor. It came with the spundit 1.0, the new Spundit 2.0 has a much smaller fermonitor. It's for reading the bubbles only. For monitoring the fermentation (Fermonitor). It does not absorb co2, its not a sealed vessel. I like to use it when transferring to read the transferring speed. At least read how much it bubbles. But it's not necessary. And in this case when you have to see through vessels you can actually watch the keg fill up and if it's foaming. But normally I transfer to a non see through vessel. Have a look at my Spundit 2.0 video and also the Perfect transfer video.
I'm doing my first brew and it's under pressure. In the all rounder and only at 11psi and 21c. When I attempt to check current gravity I just get a heap of foam, any way to reduce this?
Either use a Tilt for montering FG. It will be affected by the pressure but you can still read when SG is steady. The cheaper method is to fill up a jar and shake out the co2.
How long does it take for the keg to clear?
It depends on the beer. Very different
How much carbonation can you expect to get in the fermzilla? I mean, will you need to add a little extra in the keg later? Enough for a stout? Ipa? Lager? Only asking because my local dealer discouraged me from buying one for this feature...
Check a force carbonation chart on your fermenting temp and see how much pressure you need for the serving volumes of co2 and see if it is within the fermenter limits. 1bar/14 psi is about 2.5 volumes in fridge temps and in room temps 2.5 volumes is around 2bar/28psi so should not be a problem getting enough carbonation.
You can get enough for most beer styles. But for like a wheat beer you can be short.
Did you return the fermzilla? I am new to making beer and I was thinking about getting one. Would you now recommend the Fermzilla?
I would recommend going for a Fermentasaurus snub nose instead. Or if you really want a Fermzilla go for the Fermzilla all rounder. I cant recommend the standard Fermzilla.
@@DrHansBrewery Thanks
@@marcmilligan1803 you're welcome. Happy brewing!
@@DrHansBrewery Do you have a link for the hose that you used to transfer the beer from one vessel to the other? I am getting stocked up for my next brew.
If you just squeeze the bottle with the gelatin until there is no more air then tighten the cap you will have removed all oxygen. Then you wont have to purge, just fill with CO2.
I would still want to purge some but yes it would work.
Woo! first comment.
