Listen to this on CZcams all the time-a balm and a grace during these years of tyranny and months of pandemic. Thank you, angelic singers.

This must be the rehearsal. At the concert, the audience was led into song. So beautiful a prayer. We felt his Holy Presence.
    Thank you Lord.
    Thank you all.

He was one of those post-Vatican 2 songs, but this 42 year old doesn't remember ever having sung it at at Mass. John Michael Talbot was the first for that in my life. This music has its place in the spiritual life, as it is touching when sung well, but I believe the angelic-sounding Gregorian chant and/or awe-inspiring pipe organ are better for the soul at Mass.

All music is a gift from God when used to convey a sincere prayer or response. There is no such thing as music that is “best.” It’s just simply a preference or a prejudice of a particular group. I’ve always felt that the ‘Catholic preference’ was simply church politics and not a logical or spiritually significant choice. There is no official musical form based on sound Christian doctrine or on The Lord’s commands.

Refrain: Holy darkness, Blessed night, heaven's answer hidden from our sight. As we await you, O God of silence, we embrace your holy night.
Verse 1: I have tried you in fires of affliction; I have taught your soul to grieve. In the barren soil of your loneliness, there I will plant my seed.
Verse 2: I have taught you the price of compassion; you have stood before the grave. Though my love can seem like a raging storm, this is the love that saves.
Verse 3: Were you there when I raised up the mountains? Can you guide the morning star? Does the hawk take flight when you give command? Why do you doubt my power.
Verse 4: In your deepest hour of darkness. I will give you wealth untold. When the silence stills your spirit, will my riches fill your soul.
Verse 5: As the watchman waits for morning, and the bride awaits her groom, so we wait to hear your footsteps as we rest beneath your moon.
