    Great job. A few reminders for me. Last time I pulled a shell off was back in 1982 when I worked in a VW/Audi/Porche shop. We had 4 metal rods with threading at one end and a rounded top for the guide pins, made by some tool company I can't remember. (Getting old). I'm starting a 1968 bug now so wish me luck. Wanted a 1969, however, no such luck. But this one lived in AZ its whole life so no rust. Thank the God's. A little less work. Still gotta pull the shell off for a complete paint job and a switch from swing axle to IRS. Any way thanks again for the video.

    Are the body bolts from the hardware store heat treated? Could be a difference in impact to shear. Just curious, because I was in the heat treat and zinc plating of fasteners like these for a few years. I have do the same with my 65 and the video is helpful. Looks great.

    I used to own a ‘73, while in college, and now want to build a Bug.
    I’m interested in using a later model floorpan from a SuperBeetle for the IRS instead of the swing arm rear suspension under an early 60’s body which is my body of choice.
    I’m new to Bug building; is this do-able? Any specifics to watch for?
    Also, I’m interested in upgrading to front discs. Anything to expect?
    I’ve subscribed and I welcome your in-depth and straight forward presentation. Thanks!

  • @chuckholmes9951

    I think that I would run a tap through every mounting hole before setting the chassis down. Also, I believe I would use anti seize instead of WD-40. WD-40 evaporates and should bolts need to be removed again it would be a lot easier. As needed tapping is okay until there is a stripped hole that you find after mounting the chassis. Easier to fix beforehand.

    I'm thinking about making a roller dummy chassis to put my '63 body on so I can move it around and eventually haul it to the paint shop. I want to use an IRS chassis so it won't need a transmission on it to roll. Will the 63 body fit onto an IRS chassis? I'm thinking there are probably some differences at the rear mounting areas.

I remember my husband had adapters with 14" ford wheels on his 62 we had alot of fun in the winter in the snow with that one with the typical 16 year old donuts and emergency brake slides, miss those day's.

    • @classicvwbugs
      @classicvwbugs  Před 8 lety

      1600 single ports are great motors, HP is like 60hp, the max speed is like 80 or so, and you can get like 30-32mpg if tuned right. Some people can even do better in fuel. As far as diesel? Don't think so.

    • @freetobe3
      @freetobe3 Před 8 lety

      1600 single port does about 25 mpg on a decent tune, 30 on a fine tune. 1600 dp is probably 20-25 mpg but better can be achieved if tuned properly and if aftermarket parts are well made, brazilian stuff is BS, mexican stuff is ok but german is superb.
