    Great video. One thing to mention is that for some of those who watch this video who aren't very tech savvy, USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 do have their differences. Yes, Thunderbolt 3 is backwards compatible with USB-C, but it is possible to have USB-C without the Thunderbolt 3 technology. And without Thunderbolt 3, charging and HDMI capability with USB-C would ultimately fail. Just want people to know because i almost made the mistake of purchasing a laptop that only was capable of USB-C 3.1, but lacked the Thunderbolt 3 capability. Luckily I read up on it. The ports look the same but it can be confusing.

      Yessir. IE, the Razer Blade 2016 has a USB type c port that doesn't allow charging whereas the Razer Blade stealth has a thunderbolt 3 which does.

      @90chevytruck Před 8 lety +7

      Let me clarify some information. USB-C is just the connector interface. thunderbolt 3 is the protocol that is transmitted using the USB-C connector. USB-C must always support the USB protocol but not all systems with USB-C connector on it have to support USB 3.1. There are devices with the USB-C connector and only support USB 2.0. Also, to support laptop charging, the port does not have to have thunderbolt 3. The port needs to support USB Power Delivery (PD) spec. Lastly, it is possible the port supports DisplayPort technology but it doesn't support Thunderbolt3. So in conclusion, you must verify what the USB-C port is capable of before purchasing a product or else you may not get what you think it's capable of.

      90chevytruck that means I can buy a type c to USB 3.0 cable and connect my HDD(USB 3.0) to the new Macbook pro's thunderbolt 3 port?

    • @Tangey1
      @Tangey1 Před 7 lety

      You are wrong. USB-C supports 1 4K display, and would not fail without Thunderbolt 3. In fact, they are completely different things except Intel just adapted into a smaller port by making IT a USB-C. That probably does not make sense, but Thunderbolt-3 only uses the USB-C design as the bigger bulkier Type-A USB is generally too big for some people now. Also, its earsier if you thing of it like this. USB-C is your regular USB port but smaller. Thunderbolt is a really fast flash drive with that USB-C design that supports displays, ethernet, card readers etc.

    • @90chevytruck
      @90chevytruck Před 7 lety +1

      The Strider9 kinda late response but yes. If the port supports Thunderbolt, it will support USB 3.1 10G/5G and USB 2.0 and DisplayPort.

    Hey! Great video. Super healpful!!
    I have the same laptop (with slight better specs + 9360) As I understood that is a 4K monitor that you connected to and that is awesome. I have a questions though.
    1) Does your monitor or laptop screen flicker when connected? or even without being connected??
    My brand new laptop's screen is flickering and DELL (after 2 separate checks) could not find why. They asked me to connect to a monitor to check if it still flickers. If the connection/bandwidth is bad with the monitor, it would still flicker.
    I'd love to know your opinion!!

    That's pretty cool. Did you consider the Dell Thunderbolt Dock? I think for a little more money you can get a little more connectivity in one device. I haven't seen a good serious review of the dock so it may not actually meet your needs, just curious why you went down this road. Thanks for sharing.

    • @boom3k
      @boom3k  Před 8 lety +1

      +Chris Coddington Hey Chris. No problem. Yeah I considered the Dell dock as well a a few others, but for over $100 alone I cannot justify it for my needs. Sure the adapter was $30 and the charger was $40 which equals up to $70 which saves you $30 which could be used for something else. I just needed it connect 1 usb device and 1 hdmi source. The dock imo is a joke for the price. I will upload a new video describing how I am using it now.

    Man i have xps 15 (9570) laptop also. My hdmi has stopped working for some reason. It's giving me No Signal. Tried everything to fix it. I have the USB Type C lightning port in my xps 15. Will this adapter thing will work for me. I went to a computer they tried it with a usb c to hdmi converter cable. There was no signal on the monitor. But I don't think they tried a specific one. The one with a USB Type C Lightning adapter. It was a regular converter...

    hi, this could be a stupid question. I haven't listened to the video because I'm with the family etc. but I've just bought a Mac book pro 2015. so it has no USB port but I want to connect it to a 'Acorn Instruments MasterKey 49 Key USB MIDI Keyboard' (which I haven't bought yet but I am thinking of buying it). but It needs a USB port. So do I have to buy an adapter (thunderbolt to usb) or is it more complicated than that lol? thx
