新宿の総鎮守である花園神社で毎年5月下旬に行われる、江戸時代から続く伝統的なお祭りです。その歴史は古く、新宿の街とともに発展してきました。かつては、農民が豊作を祈願する祭りとして始まったとされており、現在では、地域住民だけでなく、多くの観光客も訪れる一大イベントとなっています。花園神社例大祭の最大の見どころは、威勢の良い掛け声とともに街を練り歩く神輿渡御です。大神輿「本社神輿」と「雷電神輿」の二基が、氏子たちによって担がれる姿は圧巻です。また、獅子頭と島田囃子を乗せた山車巡行も必見です。 さらに、約100軒もの露店が立ち並び、活気あふれる雰囲気も魅力の一つ。定番の屋台グルメから、花園神社ならではの名物料理まで、様々な味が楽しめます。
Hanazono Shrine Annual Festival
This is a traditional festival that has been going on since the Edo period, held every year in late May at Hanazono Shrine, the guardian deity of Shinjuku. It has a long history and has developed along with the city of Shinjuku. It is said that it once began as a festival where farmers prayed for a good harvest, and today it has become a major event that is visited not only by local residents but also by many tourists. The highlight of the Hanazono Shrine annual festival is the mikoshi togyo, which parades through the city with energetic shouts. The sight of two large mikoshi, the ``Headquarters Mikoshi'' and the ``Raiden Mikoshi,'' being carried by parishioners is a sight to behold. Also, don't miss the parade of floats carrying lion heads and Shimada Hayashi music. Another attraction is the lively atmosphere with around 100 stalls lined up. You can enjoy a variety of tastes, from standard street food to specialty dishes unique to Hanazono Shrine.
